A spot of cleaning and maintenance in perpetration for a long ride this weekend. 🚴‍♀️

The Somme Memorial, Heaton Park.

During World War I, Heaton Park famously served as the primary training ground for the Manchester Regiment’s “Pals” battalions. Between September 1914 and April 1915, thousands of local volunteers who enlisted together lived in a massive tent city in the park before deploying to the Western Front. Sadly, many of them never returned.

The conversation went something like this.

Me: “Do you fancy going out for a pint on Friday night?”

My mate: “Yes sounds good.”

Me: “Excellent. I’ll cycle over to yours straight from work.”

75 kilometres later we were in a pub near Blackpool, enjoying some of the landlords finest ales.

The next morning, after a hearty breakfast, I rode 86 kilometres back home again. How far would you cycle for a pint?

It’s all about the cafe stops ☕️

What a glorious evening it was last night for a run in the hills.
