Pilates and benefits for more mature

Pilates, with all of its variety and modifications, is a fantastic, low impact form of exercise for older adults. Numerous Pilates programs are backed by the medical community, bone-safe, and geared toward the mature adult. Pilates meets the individual where they're at and builds strength, confidence, and mobility.

A dachshund guest for just one week,
And I can hardly hide my glee!
Those little legs, that happy face—
I’m in a state of pure ecstasy! ❤️💕

Freddy’s here, and what a treat—
A dachshund with four very busy feet!
Unlike Kevindog, refined and wise,
Freddy investigates, digs, and pries.

Sniff this bush, inspect that log,
A textbook, proper little dog.
I’m loving every wag and frolic too—
What a week we’re going to get through! 🐾😄

Beyond excited about my latest addition - crystal singing bowls ✨🥣💗
At the moment they look suspiciously like oversized pink plant pots… but trust me the sounds are ethereal 😂

Crystal singing bowls are believed to help calm the nervous system, reduce stress, support meditation, improve focus, and create a deep sense of relaxation and balance ✨

Can’t wait to play these beauties — my clients are about to become very relaxed practice partners 😄or nervous wrecks -only joking 😳

So if you hear soft cosmic humming drifting through the studio soon… it’s all part of the magic 💫

🔥 HEATWAVE PILATES UPDATE 🔥

Instead of pushing through sweaty, high-intensity workouts in this heat, we briefly considered swapping things out for a “bed of nails” and guided meditation session — because honestly, lying still and resetting the nervous system is sounding pretty appealing right now. 😅 This week we’re keeping things heatwave-friendly with a blend of low level, slow flow, and regular classes designed to support your body without the extra sweat.

Pilates reminds us that strength doesn’t always come from intensity — sometimes it comes from slowing down, breathing deeply, moving with intention, and reconnecting with ourselves. A nice thought for a sunny bank holiday.

FYI - The studio’s dressed for summer now — apparently subtlety has officially left the building.
I started with a few pretty pink flags, then somehow escalated into a full glitter-based production.
There are sparkly lights looped around anything that stands still long enough,
and, in case anyone hadn’t noticed, I’ve now discovered the ceiling exists too —
so naturally there are paper lanterns floating about up there like a very enthusiastic garden party.

Honestly, one more string of lights and passing aircraft may try to land here.
But the pink flags flutter so sweetly, the lanterns bob about looking terribly pleased with themselves,
and somewhere between the twinkle overload and the soft summer air,
the studio has become exactly the kind of joyful, ridiculously over-dressed little sanctuary I wanted.

Recent self-tests like sitting on the floor and standing up without using your hands, or balancing on one leg, have gained attention because they can reflect strength, mobility, balance, coordination, and overall healthy aging. But the score alone doesn’t explain what may be limiting you or how to improve it. Real progress comes from building the underlying skills through consistent, well-guided movement practice. Pilates helps develop the strength, mobility, balance, and confidence these tests are truly measuring, supporting better movement in everyday life over time.

COMING SOON 😳

Magic circles: A ring that exposes every wobble, weakness, and questionable life choice 😅One minute you’re thinking, “This looks easy,” and the next your inner thighs are filing a formal complaint.

But seriously — magic circles are amazing for improving posture, core strength, stability, muscle tone, and mind-body connection. They fire up those deep muscles you forgot existed and add just enough resistance to make you feel strong, shaky, and slightly betrayed all at once.

Small circle. Big attitude. Pilates people know. 🔥

Rolling a tennis ball under the foot is one of the simplest yet most effective tools we use in Pilates to help release tension through the entire back line of the body. The feet are our foundation, and tightness in the plantar fascia can create strain all the way up into the calves, hips, and lower back. Gentle pressure with a tennis ball helps wake up the small muscles of the feet, improve circulation, and encourage better alignment and movement patterns — often bringing surprising relief to back discomfort. Small release, big difference. 🎾✨
