July recap

July’s standout moment was joining Warrington GAA Social Hurling for their annual shinty–hurling fixture against Cornwall Shinty Club a brilliant friendly and fun opportunity to practice both sports with shared roots. Congratulations Cornwall on completing their Summer tour, it was great to be involved.

We’ve made the most of the sunshine with regular training sessions and socials throughout the summer.

Looking ahead, Saturday training continues, and we’re gearing up for a bigger summer social on 15th August as we prepare for our next tournament in London this September.

Meeting point: Cringle Fields building / Kingsway Athletic entrance. Please arrive 5 mins early. If arriving later, find us on the playing field pitches.

Whether you’re completely new to shinty or already familiar with the sport, all are welcome to join us for a casual hit about.

After the session, we’ll be heading to Grounded MCR - a small cafe in Cringle Park for a coffee and bite to eat.

Parking is available on Crossley Rd,
Meeting point: Cringle Fields building / Kingsway Athletic entrance. please arrive 5 mins early. If arriving later, find us on the playing field pitches.
Also accessible from the city centre by bus or train.

Manchester Shinty Club's debut at the Oxford Shinty Sixes 2026 was one to remember! On our first appearance at the tournament, we finished 3rd overall 🥉

We also kept 5 clean sheets throughout the day and only conceded in one match. A surprise victory over eventual tournament winners Bristol was certainly a highlight! As was the ceilidh and get-together off the pitch.

Congratulations to Becky for winning Women's Player of the Tournament and scoring Manchester's first competitive goal. 🎉
Rosie, Heather and Becky finished tied as the top female scorers, while Nat, JK and Ali were instrumental in helping the team record five clean sheets.

A huge thank you to Oxford Shinty Club for organising a fantastic tournament and ceilidh. Great shinty, great company, and great craic!

We're looking forward to competing in more sixes tournaments this year.

Results

Manchester Vs Oxford 0-0
In the opening game we faced the hosts Oxford. This match ended in a nil-nil draw. A slow start both finding our rhythm, but not the back of the net!

Manchester Vs Cornwall 2's 0-3
Next up, a disappointing result in our second game. A few errors were punished by some excellent long-range strikes from Cornwall.

Manchester Vs Durham 1-0
A turning point for the team. We started brightly, creating chances and linking up well in attack. Becky scored Manchester's first-ever goal, giving us a huge confidence boost.

At the halfway break we stopped for lunch and joined the group photo featuring all seven teams competing on the day. The Manchester squad in the centre, sporting the retro gold strips.

After lunch, players also took part in a 7-a-side women's practice match, bringing players together from across the clubs.

Manchester Vs Bristol 1-0
A determined performance against the tournament favourites. We kept it tight and battled for every ball, and a long-range effort from Rosie proved enough to secure a memorable victory

Manchester Vs Cornwall 1's 3-0
A dominant display. Heather opened the scoring before a tactical switch pushed two keepers further forward in search of goals. Hoppy added two more to seal an excellent win.

Manchester Vs London 0-0
A match that decided the top 3 teams, both teams fought hard. Our defence keeping London fairly quiet, we created chanced but had not quite enough time to change the score.

🏑 A staple of the English Shinty calendar, we are looking forward to a full day of shinty, sunshine, BBQ, and ceilidh dancing 💃

History made 🤝 thanks to everyone who joined our first taster session this weekend and made it a memorable one.

The training session started with hitting and stopping drills following by some shooting practice, and finished with a short game.

Afterwards we enjoyed a few drinks with a social in the sun ☀️

Great to see a mix of backgrounds and experience and excited to build upon these sessions as we continue to grow the club.

We'll cover the basics, fun drills, then a game.
There'll be no toilets or changing rooms facilities so come prepared.
We’ll likely finish a little early to head to the pub.

🍻 Social – 1pm
Beech Inn, Chorlton – outdoor seating booked for drinks and pizza 🍕

🎒 Bring: water, sportswear, boots/trainers, change of clothes for the social after.
Spare gear is available to borrow.
