Yesterday, amidst ideal korfing weather, OUKoC traipsed off to Hinksey for the annual Oxford City Tournament! After a tough morning of three losses, we balanced things out in the afternoon with three straight victories, landing us in the Plate (lower division) final! Unfortunately we were not able to quite keep up with the sharp shooting of a strong Basingstoke squad in the final match, but were quickly consoled with the perfect post-tournament trifecta of a raffle, pizza, and an Olympics-themed quiz! A huge thank you to for hosting a fantastic tournament as usual, and to our friends from and for joining our ranks for the day so we could field a team! πŸ’™πŸ’›

*O1 CHAMPS REPORT FROM OUR CAPTAIN*

We started off the weekend with the group stage matches and had a convincing win against Warwick first up! Then came a narrow loss to Manchester by only 1 goal, we had fought back from being 4 goals down. Finally we finished up with a draw against Sheffield Hallam that put us second in the group and into the quarter finals!

It was a tough quarter final up against the formidable Nottingham team, we stayed competitive throughout but finished the day with a loss. The first day saw some injuries and illness, but the team fought so hard together which stood us in good stead for the next day in the 5-8th playoffs

Our first match of day 2 was up against an "enthusiastic" Sheffield team which ended with another narrow loss, but with yet again one great fight from the whole team
That left us in the 7/8th match up against Leeds Beckett and a final narrow loss, but it features the greatest goal celebration of all time from Emily.
We placed 8th overall and secured BUCS points!!!

An outstanding team performance throughout which everyone should be so proud of. No matter the situation the team supported one another and we had an amazing time!

Extra shout out to leavers for this year Charlie, Lennie, Emily and Lizzie!

OXFORD TAKE VARSITY

Oxford came out victorious, winning all 4 games and bringing Varsity home!!!

Oxford 3s kicked us off with a 13 - 3 WIN after a great game of Korfball. Congratulations to MVP Nived Chebrolu!

Oxford Alumni then came storming onto the court with hundreds of subs lined up on the sideline. Overall a 12-7 win with strong performances from all our wonderful Alum 😍 Congratulations to Sophie Whittaker for MVP

The streak continues with the Oxford 2s winning 12-6 after a tight first half and some beautiful shots and encouragement from captain Maggie Bryan. Congratulations to Jack McNamara for MVP!!!

And finally, the Oxford 1s. WHAT A GAME. This nail biting final featured a tough battle with Cambridge. The battle was legendary with Oxford coming out on top thanks to a last minute goal from Matt Stokes. What a team effort. According to captain Lizzie "that took years off me". So so proud of our amazing squad!!!! Well done to Alejandro FernΓ‘ndez for MVP.

HUGE thanks to our opponents for an amazing day of Korfball!!! Special thanks to Jack Whitehead for organising an amazing day and to Ben Searcey for all the help πŸ’›πŸ’™
