A successful Head of Prague 2025 — Linacre’s W1 from Eights 2025 made its international debut this weekend (with L Wilcox in for S Marshall in 7, and K Joon taking over for F Cooper in the coxing seat), placing 10th out of 15 crews in the Women’s Senior Division! Chewed up hands and lack of cox box didn’t stop us from finishing in a clean 25:31 over 6.4K, averaging 1:59.8/500m, and making a very smooth overtake during the infamous U-Turn. Exciting start to LBC’s 25-26 season!

O2.
Hildas promised our O2 that if they could hold Mansfield off till the gut, Hilda's would bump Mansfield 🤌... Linacre held up their half of the bargain. So the boys were unfortunately bumped by Mansfield just after the gut.

W2.
W2 had a strong day of rowing and got really close to Magdalen W2 but unfortunately couldn't quite close the gap. Hoping to put even more watts down and catch them tomorrow.

O1.
Incredible row over new didn't even get close. Therefore 0/0 crews are on for spoons! 2 seat was "as happy as a man that had been elected mayor" to quote our coach.

W1:
After and exciting race and some imbecile steered lines by Fergus there was a clear concession from GTC outside the boathouse. However after a long appeal The bumps stands.

Day 2 summary

O2 was unfortunately in between two very speedy crews. They started to gain on Oriel but the teddy hall beer boat was just that much faster and closed the gap first. Boys are in good spirits and will be back today for action.

W2 went into their race today with a fresh perspective and started strong. In the gut, they pulled to a canvas off of Wadham who managed to row off just as W2 was threatening to bump. While they ultimately weren't able to catch Wadham, they rowed strong and kept GTC 2, the following crew, no less than a length back the entire race and rowed over.

O1 (never failing to deliver on drama content 🙏) had some action in men's div 3 day 2. Quote from VC "Unfortunately I won’t be useful because my head was in the boat too much. " (We love to hear). M1 had a good strong start was ballistic, the boat was flying on the water and we were closing on Univ M2. Unfortunately, Univ M2 bumped ChCh M2 and this caused some chaos and got us crashing into the bank right after Donnie bridge with all endings in a Wolfson M2 bump.

W1 bumped St Anne’s in just under 40 strokes, continuing their upward trajectory! (Short and sweet summary, for a short and sweet row 🙏)

Day 1 Round Up.

O2:
O2 (pictured here) started off thier campaign as the second boat in MDiv6. They had a strong start and maintained full pressure through an excellently steered line through the gut. Balliol M3 kept swiping at the stern but the boys pulled away each time for a strong row over. With some shenanigans happening behind them in the div today then are looking to bump up tomorrow.

W2:
W2 put down a strong race today closing rapidly on Oriel W2. Unfortunately Wadham W2 had an insanely speedy start and despite some last ditch manoeuvring they just couldn't hold the Wadham girls off who eventually contact bumped Linacre.

O1:
The boys were locked in from the moment they pushed off. They did a good solid start but a very quick Univ M2 off the start meant the boys never had chance to settle on their race rhythm and ultimately closed quicker on Linacre than Linacre could on Pembroke M2.

W1:
W1 started the day in WDiv2, and looking for payback on Exeter who bumped them on the last day of 8s in 2024. They were clearly ready to go hitting (🤫 rescinded - insider information of rates and splits) of the start. W1 received a full contact bump on Exeter right along the Greenbank and are looking forward to chasing Annes tomorrow.

W1 crew list!

A motley crew of a mix of ex (and current 🤫) Jesus, Catz, Somerville, and Cambridge Catz that have all been incubated in a watt greenhouse.

Fun fact: Middle 4 (average height of >6ft 🥵) are all Czech, so this engine room is powered by Bread Dumplings and a Dream. ()

Our co-captain says "we are all really excited about the week - we’ve been putting a lot into training together and now’s the chance for it to pay off!" (I am glad one of the captains provided a wholesome quote 🤌)

Come and watch the gals in WDiv2 at 5.15pm

O1 Crew Announcement 🪖

Vice captain would like to apologise in advance for any barking and off key bungline singing shenanigans from the Bois.

Whilst the newest recruit would just like to stress that
“Honestly, the only reason I row is for the ham & cheese croissants afterwards”

Fun fact: in 1992, 3 seat of the mens first 8+ moved his wedding forward 6 hours to ensure it didn't clash with his race.

Come and watch Gods choppiest soldiers will be send it down the course "equanimously" in MDiv3 at 4.45. 🌊

W2 Crew Announcement!

This W2 has brains (Dr of Vikings and a university challenger 🤓) and brawn 💪.

Quote from cox "To get me motivated my stroke has told me it’s either bump or break up"

Fun fact: W2 shell "Elspeth Garman" is named after no other one of the iconic founding members of Linacre Boat Club Womens Squad. Prior to the women's side, Linacre entered mixed eights in 1971, who the Daily Telegraph loving described as "In the slapstick belt, two crews, Linacre and Wolfson, have girls rowing." 💅

The gals will be storming down the course in WDiv4 at 3.15.

Crew announcements time!

Need Saturday plans?? Come and watch O2 race Saturday 24th @4.15.

The crew got confused with oriel regatta rules and have committed to not racing (or meeting 🤝) together beforehand.

🌟 Thoughts from the Cox include "I know its is the boat I'm Coxing??"

‼️ Open captain claims "we leave the excitement of rowing together as the final crew until race day to not spoil it" and "we have 9 nationalities in the boats (across all days)"

Featuring guest appearances from ex women's caps, ex mens caps, co-presidents that abandoned us to the other side, and many more I cannot keep up with.
