In April, The Social Shed, our social inclusion programme for adults with physical and learning disabilities, enjoyed a trip to Farmer Gow’s for a day of interactive sessions with the animals.

From feeding goats, chicks, pigs, cows and lambs to time together as a group, it was a fantastic day for everyone involved.

We’re now looking forward to our Summer Social Shed trip to Cotswold Wildlife Park!

As part of the programme, we aim to organise four off-site trips each year, giving participants the chance to explore new environments, try new experiences, and build confidence.

On Friday 17 April, we hosted a charity quiz in support of OXSRAD, RDA, and Oxford United in the Community.

The evening raised an incredible £2,300, bringing together people from across Oxfordshire for a fun and competitive night while supporting three local charities.

We’re proud to have been chosen as a charity by County Council Chair Mark Lygo, and also by Oxford Mayor Louise Upton. This support has been invaluable in raising both vital funds and awareness of our work, as well as building connections with partner organisations across the county.

A huge thank you to Mark and Louise for their support, and to everyone who joined us!

Bank of England Governor meets Oxfordshire charities in forum convened by Oxfordshire Community Foundation - Oxfordshire Community Foundation 24/03/2026

Last Friday, OXSRAD was one of 10 charities invited to meet with Andrew Bailey, Governor of the Bank of England, during his visit to Oxford.

The event, convened by Oxfordshire Community Foundation (OCF), brought together local organisations to share first-hand insight from the frontline of Oxfordshire’s charitable sector. Discussions focused on the impact of inflation, the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, and the challenges likely to shape the year ahead.

At OXSRAD, we see how these pressures affect the people we support, from rising living costs to increasing demand for our services. Alongside this, charities are facing significant workforce challenges, and the increasing complexity of need, all while operating within constrained resources.

We welcomed the opportunity to ensure these experiences - both from those we support and those delivering services were heard at a national level.

We’re very grateful to OCF for creating space for these important conversations.

🚧 ADVANCED NOTICE – Road Closure Impact 🚧

We’ve been informed of a temporary road closure on Marston Ferry Road (B4495) due to essential surface works.

🗓 From: 29 April 2026 (04:00)
🗓 To: 3 May 2026 (18:00)

⚠️ Important:
We’ve spoken with the council, and this permit allows works for this period, but it does NOT mean the road will be closed for the full duration.

However, during this time you may experience:
• Increased traffic in the surrounding area
• Possible delays when travelling to us

🚑 Access will still be maintained for emergency vehicles and local properties where possible.

📍 Please see attached image for alternative routes.

We wanted to give all our service users plenty of notice so you can plan ahead and allow extra travel time if needed. We will also share a reminder closer to the time.

Could you help make these sessions happen?

The Social Shed is an inclusive weekly group for adults with learning difficulties and physical disabilities, offering creative projects, practical skills and social time in a safe, welcoming environment.

Due to demand we are planning to launch a new group for 16–24 year olds with similar needs - and we’re currently gathering materials to make it possible.

You can support the group by donating an item from our Amazon Wish List:

We also welcome donations of cardboard tubes, rice/lentils and paint trays.

Every item helps someone take part and try something new!

We’re delighted to share a special moment from yesterday. After months of quiet determination, Izzy stood using her own strength, without a frame, for the first time in years.

What made it even more special was the room full of friends who cheered her on.

We’re incredibly proud of everyone who shows up, puts in the work, and overcomes challenges most people never see.

Supporting journeys like this is the greatest privilege.
