Founded in 1992, Oxford City is the biggest korfball club in Oxfordshire and, in our view, the best! It was invented in the Netherlands in 1903 and is now played by over 200,000 people in 50 countries. A korfball team consists of four men and four women. There are no set positions, and everyone has to attack and defend. It doesn't matter if you're tall or short -- all that matters is that you can

How is it already May?!
And a busy month here at OCKC, despite there being no league action! We have our end of season awards night (tonight in fact!), then our AGM, followed by a whole host of post-season training session shenanigans, a smattering of pre-season tournaments, and no doubt some socials in the pipeline too!
so WATCH THIS SPACE!

(and yes, I have used the *NSYNC meme thing. I’m a millennial... 🤷‍♂️)

In advance of our annual end of season awards night tonight, a belated shout out to three members of City 1 who absolutely smashed it in the WRL this season: Dan T and Abbie won top male and female goalscorer awards respectively and Alf was named Male MVP!

Now that the league season is over, I can finally catch up with all the goal scoring milestones from the last couple of months of the 24/25 season!

In the last game of the season, Alice managed to hit the frankly ridiculous 300 goal landmark! Only 178 behind Dan, full confidence in you catching him!

Lauren, James, Timmy and Claire all reached 200 goals for the club as well, which is also a tremendous achievement!

Abbie made it to 150, Joe and Piggin hit the 100 mark, and Tegan and Simon both reached the big 50!

One match from this weekend as a combined City 4/5 team played Milton Keynes 2 in a friendly match, and came out 24-10 winners, with hat tricks from Rae, Sam, Lauren, Saskia and Nick, with Sam also scooping 🦊 MVP!

Catching up on the last games of the OKA and WRL seasons...

..with both of Saturday’s games taking place at Cardiff’s House of Sport, as part of WRL Super Saturday. First up, City 2 wrapped up their season with a comfortable win against Cardiff City 1, finishing 5th in the WRL in their first season stepping up to regional league korf, which is a brilliant achievement! Shout outs for this game were Dan and Rich, the former scoring 6 and sharing 🦊 with Rich, who scored 4 and was also voted MVP by the opposition!

City 1 followed straight after where a thrilling game of back and forth korf ultimately ended in a one goal defeat to WRL champions Bristol Thunder 2, who made it 16 wins out of 16 this season. City 1 finished the season in 3rd in the WRL Standings. Standout performance on the scoring front with 7 goals was Timmy Mac, who won double MVP in the process!

On Sunday, the rearranged derby between the 3s and 4s took place, and although not a goal fest by any stretch of the imagination, it was still a tense game as you’d expect with any derby game! MVPs were Yates and Amy for the 3s, and Jim and Tegan for the 4s!
City 3 finished the season in 3rd in the OKA Div 1 table, level on points with Southampton Spartans 1, but beaten into 2nd on head to head, and all behind Basingstoke who won the division with a 100% record. City 4 finished a creditable 7th!

For the last time this season, here’s some stream of consciousness words about the final round of matches for this season!

On Saturday, it’s the appropriately named Super Saturday at House of Sport in Cardiff, and the annual culmination of the Western Regional League season. First up it’s City 2 who face Cardiff City 1, with the 2s already having confirmed their 5th place finish in what has been a brilliant first season in the regional league. Since these two sides met way back in September, when City 2 emerged victorious by a 24-8 scoreline, both have improved considerably so a much tighter affair is on the cards.

Straight after that match, City 1 round out their season against league winners Bristol Thunder 2, to whom they were defeated last time they played, by a 16-18 scoreline, so will be looking for revenge and more importantly securing the 2nd place finish in the league standings, where they’re currently 1 point ahead of Cardiff Raptors 1.

On Sunday, City 3 and 4 play each other in the final OCKC derby of the season, where the prize of bragging rights is always an easy catalyst for a hotly contest encounter! Fingers crossed Swan School isn’t hosting any weddings this time round. Last time out, City 3 won 28-16 and a victory this weekend would see them leapfrog Abingdon 1 into 3rd place in the OKA Div 1 table, whilst a victory for the 4s would secure their 7th place finish.

Four matches to catch up on from last weekend...

City 4 were victorious against Abingdon Atoms 2 by a convincing margin, with shoutouts for Tegan (Opp voted) and Jim & Peter (Foxy MVP), and the return of Emily to the world of korf after her travels far and wide, chipping in with a cheeky hat trick!

City 3 faced Milton Keynes 1 in a friendly match up, but found the going tough at times, rallying at the end but unable to avoid defeat. Tim and Peter were nominated MVP.

City 1 kept to their side of the bargain, beating a depleted Exeter City 1, but due to Manchester Hawks beating Manchester Warriors, it’s the former who will progress to the Promo League playoffs in City 1’s stead. It was the Timmy and Nick show with them scooping both MVP awards as well as eleven of the 31 goals scored. Cat, Becca and Dan also scored 4 a piece, as everyone got on the scoresheet. Soon to be former Grand Fromage Abbie also notched her 150th goal for the club!

City 5 rounded out the weekend with a great win against Didcot 1, with Big Rich and Jen grabbing the MVP awards. This was the 5s last game of a brilliant season, finishing second only to Isis 1 in the OKA Division 2 North standings, a point clear of their opponents this weekend.

After a weekend off, korf is back at OCKC…

…with four matches this weekend, all on Sunday. City 4 are first up against Abingdon 2, followed by a friendly match between City 3 and Milton Keynes 1.
Across town at Swan School. City 1 welcome Exeter City 1 in the Promo League/WRL clash before we return for the late throw off between City 5 and Didcot 1!

Loads of home games this weekend so if you can get down to support any of the teams, you know it’s always greatly appreciated!
