What else would you rather be doing on a Monday than going to the coast diving? Some of the staff and friends of Oxford Dive Centre made their way to Portland this morning for a first for us… diving with our newly acquired fleet of DPVs in the UK sea. They all had a fantastic time and even the sun came out to say hello 🌞

It was yet another busy pool session today. 37 in the pool, a mixture of try dives, scuba reviews, dry suit (in this weather!) and open waters. Great fun but my it was busy!!

Some of the dive centre team are diving off Portland today. What perfect conditions for UK diving - flat, calm water and beautiful sunshine. They’ve just surfaced from their first dive the Alex Van Opstal, laying at 28 metres it was one of the first casualties of WW2. “An excellent dive for all” was the verdict!

We are finally having an external facelift. We’ve looked virtually derelict for the last few years but will soon be looking as good as new. They have predicted that it will take approximately 8 weeks!!
So for 8 weeks we’re going to have scaffolding surrounding the entire building.
Of course we are still open for business. There will be no parking space on the forecourt but the 2 hour on road parking is obviously still available.

🇬🇧🤿 There are so many amazing dive sites to explore in the U.K., from Lundy, with its beautiful seals, to the myriad shipwrecks around the country.

That said, the average sea temperature across the country is relatively cool — just 12 °* — often making wetsuit diving here rather uncomfortable.

Dry suits can make diving in cool environments much more comfortable compared with wetsuit diving, thanks to their materials and water-tight seals. However, these features contribute to relatively large air spaces, which naturally affect buoyancy.

Our PADI® Dry Suit Specialty course is perfect for divers looking to explore more diving here in the U.K.. Students build confidence with dry suits by
✅ discovering how they work,
✅ learning how to control buoyancy and
✅ completing dry suit dives in confined & open water environments, with included equipment hire
🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️ ...all under the tuition of our expert instructor team.

PADI® Dry Suit Specialty courses are available now, with dates available throughout the year. Learn more at oxforddivecentre.com/drysuit.

The first of our scheduled sea dives for this year were unfortunately blown out on Sunday and so plan B was put in place.
We quickly booked into Vobster Quay and ran a Diver Propulsion Vehicle course instead.
We now have 4 more qualified DPV divers who are looking forward to enjoying diving with the DPVs in the future. 🤿
