πŸ“±πŸ˜‘0️⃣ I have received ALOT of 'haters' over the last week or so telling me that as I'm a middle aged MAN I MUST have ABSOLUTELY ZERO understanding of menopause.

πŸ“² A few of the messages (or parts from them) included:

❓️ "How the f**k can you know what I'm going to be feeling?"

πŸ‘±β˜‘οΈ "You're a guy so with me being at 'that' age I think I'll try a female trainer....at least she'll understand".

πŸ“šπŸ“˜πŸ—£ "Just cos you have read a couple of chapters in a book, you have no idea what menopause involves. I'll be speaking with my PT when I need to".

πŸ˜” If I hadn't experienced 100s of hater messages before I would have felt quite hurt and dismayed.

😑🀬πŸ₯±πŸ˜«β˜ οΈ However I have!! I'm used to ignorant, jealous, narrow minded people (mostly women on this subject....NOT a sexist comment but PURELY as menopause only affects a woman its a completely natural response!) sending me their aggressive, threatening, dismissive and sometimes vulgar opinions. I'm now too thick skinned to let it bother me.

πŸ§‘β€πŸ¦±πŸ§‘β€πŸ¦³πŸ‘±β€β™€οΈπŸ™Žβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘©β€πŸ¦³ All I would say to these women (and as I've just said it has been exclusively women), is that you don't necessarily have to BE something to understand about something.

πŸŒπŸŒŽπŸŒ™πŸͺπŸŒ  The scientists who are experts in the universe are NOT THE universe!

πŸ§‘β€πŸ³πŸ«šπŸ„πŸ…πŸš« The best chefs in the world are not the actual food they cook and nor have they ever been.

πŸ§πŸ†πŸ‰ The zoologists who are experts in penguins, tigers or snakes for example, have never actually experienced being a penguin, a tiger or a snake but they know MORE about those creatures than the creatures themselves and understand the animals behaviour more than anyone else.

βš οΈβœ…οΈπŸ§  So it IS possible for a person to understand a subject, to have a deep knowledge and from that a real genuine empathy for the people affected by the issue.

β˜€οΈβ›±οΈ Wow, wasn't it hot today?

πŸ‘€ I saw a few 'overweight' men and women whilst on my walk today and though everyone was feeling the heat, it was visibly obvious that these people were struggling more than the thinner, fitter and healthier ones.

β˜οΈπŸ‘ŽπŸ«Έ It's tough being 'TOUGH' BUT I'm the sort of Coach that would ALWAYS tell my clients what they NEED to hear and NOT just what they WANT to hear.

πŸ₯¦πŸπŸ˜ I'm not going to drone on about if you are bigger that generally means that you're unhealthier. If you're happy being fat that's absolutely YOUR choice.

πŸš«βœ”οΈ But PLEASE DO NOT DO IT to prove a point. I've seen it countless times. A woman has heard through various means that she's regarded as overweight and she knows it too.

πŸšΊπŸ’―βœ… ️But to show that she can do everything a 'thinner' woman can do decides to make no effort to lose a few pounds in an attempt to prove she is 'just fine' as she is.

β›”οΈπŸ§˜β€β™€οΈπŸš΄ This means she won't get a thorough medical. I say that because if you start a fitness programme with a PT or with an Online Coach, you'll need to prove that you are in a healthy enough condition to begin.

⚠️☒️ This is NON NEGOTIABLE....so if you ever sign up for a fitness type programme and you're NOT asked about your current physiological/health situation and potentially a full medical assessment your doctor, DONT DO IT!!!

πŸŒžπŸ‘©β€πŸ¦³πŸ‘¦πŸ₯›πŸ«—πŸ₯€πŸ§‹ Being overweight in extreme heat does have the possibility to increase adverse outcomes. Just like elderly people and children, overweight individuals are more susceptible to heat stress and should therefore ensure that they drink enough fluids and seek out the shade in hot weather.

πŸ‹βŽ ️Physical exertion should be avoided in hot temperatures as this places a considerable strain on the cardiovascular system.

πŸ”†βš•οΈγ€½οΈβ¬†οΈ Carrying excess weight can affect your body's ability to regulate its temperature and cause your body to keep more heat. You will need to sweat much more than an 'average' sized person and that can often be a cause of high embarrassment.

πŸŒ…β™¨οΈπŸŒ› So though there a numerous reasons for losing excess weight, when the heat increases and the days and nights get hotter and hotter, getting rid of unwanted fat can be a huge advantage, both physically, mentally and emotionally.

"No more than 5 years ago I used to absolutely love the sun, the high temperatures, the stunning clear, cloudless blue skies and before catching the coach to the beach, picking out one of my favourite bikinis to wear on the beach that day".

"But not anymore. Nowadays I wish I lived in Finland where the temperature rarely gets high enough for people to wear shorts and a t-shirt".

"WHY? What's changed?" I asked.

"Me. My body. My big fat arse, well the top one, the middle one and the bottom one! My wobbly arms and thick flabby wrists. My cellulite covered legs. My 2 chins. My sagging stomach. I absolutely f*c***g HATE what I've become!".

I'm a real 'softy'....I kid you not. My eyes can well up watching Frasier or The Goldbergs and they're COMEDIES!! Yep, I cry at just about anything!

So to hear this....well I was VERY pleased it was a standard phone call and not a Skype, Zoom or some type of video chat. My heart was shattering into bits.

To hear that made me want to offer my services for nothing....I very nearly did!!

However we still ALL have to make a living and we all have to try and continue to make the best choices at that specific time that we can. Offering a free programme would not have been the answer for her or for me.

What I tried to do was to delve into what has happened over the last 5 years for her to feel this way. She had sent a photo of her on a beach in Portugal in 2017 and 'holy moly' she had an INCREDIBLE PHYSIQUE. She truly looked like an Olympic athlete.

6 years later and she's added 49kg!!!! Yes FORTY NINE....about 108lbs!!!!! That is INSANE.

During our discussion she was brave and honest enough with me to outline the major factors associated with her extreme weight gain.

And hopefully now she's ready to do something about it.

I guess what we all need to realise is that if our weight is, and has always been a constant battle as far back as we can remember, then we are literally one 'trauma' away from a complete 'negative' body change.

We need the skills, understanding, recognition and the ability to put a productive plan in place so that should some horrible event occur, our first point of call, the one thing we turn to before anything else is food....and lots of it.

This IS possible. You can obtain the knowledge to counter any desire to 'empty the fridge' when things get tremendously hard....and we all know from time to time they do.

So why not think about protecting yourself. Don't allow yourself to follow the same path as the lovely woman I was recently chatting with. You can win the battle against overeating....in fact, you can win the WAR!!
