Summer VIIIs Race Reports are now up on our website at https://hertfordcollegeboatclub.com/ ! They will be followed shortly by captain's yearly reports. In other news, this is my last post as HCBC Secretary - it's been a wonderful year and I'm very pleased to hand over to Trybull.

Torpids race reports are up on our website www.hertfordcollegeboatclub.com! We're extremely proud of all our crews, with many rowers never having raced bumps before, and many getting their first ever bump!
HCBC and the other Longbridges boat clubs joined together to fly the Ukrainian flag off the balcony during Torpids, and held a bake sale to raise donations: £676.84 was raised to go towards the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. We join the college's stance on opposing this invasion, and looking to contribute financial support to such charities.
With the newly christened Filippi VIII boat the Terry Hughes all set up for the M1, and a number of Oxford Blues rowers returning to the club in Hilary, HCBC is setting up for a powerful campaign next term. After a hearty Torpids Dinner, the club is ready and waiting.

IMPORTANT- COMMITTEE ELECTIONS 2021-22
Hi everyone! Following on from a successful bumps campaign and fun Oriel regatta, it is time for the annual committee elections.
We currently have applications for-
President
Men’s captain
Vice Men’s captain
Captain of the Lower Boats
Welfare representative
Secretary
Treasurer
Captain of Coxes
This means there are still vacancies for-
Women’s captain
Women’s Lower boats captain
Social Secretary
Water safety officer
Kit Secretary
It would be great to fill all of these roles, and have the committee as strong as possible for the next year. Hertford have done incredibly well recently, and continuing this streak of improvement and club momentum is of the upmost importance! Holding a committee position is enjoyable and extremely rewarding, and having been a part of this group for 2 out of my 3 years at Oxford, I can safely say becoming Women’s captain was one of the best decisions I ever made. I would strongly encourage anyone who is even the slightest bit interested to apply. If you are worried about time commitment, consider applying to one of the more minor roles such as Kit officer, which would allow you to be part of the committee without so much responsibility.
With this in mind, applications for any of the above committee roles will be open until this Wednesday (23rd). If you are interested, please email a short manifesto to me (Kate) via the secretary email [email protected].
Elections will be held over zoom sometime on Friday (25th June), where each candidate will present a short speech. The current committee will then vote and elect their successors.
As you all know by now, HCBC is an extremely welcoming, enthusiastic and determined club, led by an equally passionate committee. If you are even in the slightest bit interested in joining this group, and are dedicated to making Hertford rowing bigger and better, apply to the committee!! I promise you won’t regret it! 🦌❤️
Happy manifestoing,
Kate (HCBC Sec)

A Strange Year: Rowing Reports
The 19/20 Academic year has thrown at lot of curveballs at college rowing. Lots of intense wet weather in Michaelmas and Hilary and then a pandemic meant no Trinity. Hear from our captains about ho…
02/06/2020
The competition continues... At the end of week 4 we have all logged 590 activities and trained over 588 hours. That is impressive! It's not to late to join (all you have to do is join Strava, join HCBC club and upload your training sessions)
Below are results at the end of week 4. Some big changes happening to the alumni and W2 scoreboards.
Keep training and FTD!

Calling all HCBC members current and past!!!
This year has not been kind to rowing. It is hard to keep motivated to exercise and remain fit during an online Trinity Term and summer which is likely to be spent in some form of lockdown. So we thought, what would help keep people motivated without Summer VIIIs on the horizon? Obviously some healthy competition…
Starting today we will begin The HCBC Training Competition. The person that achieves the highest number of training hours between now and the start of next term (classed as the 1st of October) will win a bottle of fizz and the famous HCBC jumper (in the right shade of red). The second prize will feature a Hertford Erg Club t-shirt and bottle of fizz, while 3rd place will receive a bottle of fizz. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes will be given in five categories: M1, W1, M2, W2, and alumni, with the awards ceremony taking place during the fresher’s taster sessions at the start of next term.
The rules are simple: sign up to Strava, join the HCBC group, and upload your daily exercise. We will collate the results weekly and post on Instagram changes in the leaderboard. An important point to note due to the way strava works, all of your land exercise without routes (such as circuits, yoga, stretching, weight sessions, ergs, etc) have to be marked as swimming to count towards the leaderboard. Remember you don't have to own a fancy watch to log your exercise - you can load it manually. Also we want to see your photos from runs, cycles, swims, circuits, and selfies!
Good luck, keep exercising, and as always FTD!!!!

*Torpids Dinner: Saturday 29th February*
As you may be aware the weather has not been kind to us so far this academic year. As a result our crews have not been able to go out on the water as much as they wanted to. Nonetheless the preparations for Torpids continue for all of our crews:
* M1 squeezes in as many outings as possible between red flags
* W1 decided to move to Abingdon Rowing Club hoping to get some more water time and use the cycling as the extra leg training
*both M2 and W2 have not been able to get out much as we've only had 7 green flag days since beginning of MT. Though they are putting in miles on ergs!
This year for the first time in some time we have decided to hold Torpids Dinner in Hall and invite alumni to the dinner! So if you are coming to Oxford for the Saturday of Torpids or want to just join us for the dinner please sign up using the link below. The society will get in touch to arrange payments.

Hopefully we will see many of you there!
And as always FTD 🦌🚣♀️🚣♂️🦌

In two weeks Boat Club will hold a season kick-off event to give novice freshers the opportunity to sample rowing and to introduce those with rowing experience to the club.
This year, we are keen to involve as many alumni as possible in this event, on Saturday the 12th and Sunday the 13th of October.
The Boat Club needs help from alumni in various roles on the day:
* Boating with novices to help balance and assist the cox as required
* Welcoming new members to the Boat House and showing them around
* Acting as ambassadors for the club and the sport; encouraging freshers to make rowing a central part of their Hertford experience by talking about the positive impact that decision had on your time at Oxford and subsequent career.
This year, alumni are also invited to join in the barbecue and Boatie Cocktails on the Saturday afternoon.
If you are able to help out at all on either of those days, or just want to join for the barbecue and drinks, please mark the dates in your diary and complete this form. Note, the £10 fee is only payable if you are staying for the barbecue and drinks.
