It’s not necessarily the summer that’s the problem.
You work all year to save up to get away with the family, you should enjoy that time off without having to worry about calories or eating this or that.
You tell yourself, “I’ll get back to it when the kids go back.”
Then life gets busy.
The October break comes and goes.
Before you know it, the festive season is here.
Then it’s January and you’re back where you started.
So the problem isn’t summer.
The problem is finishing summer with no plan.
That’s exactly why Dad Squad starts on 10th August. Enjoy your summer, then come back with a plan and let’s get to work.
If you’d like to know more, just send me a DM with the word DAD.

Right… a wee update.
I’ve decided to put Thrive on a summer hiatus.
With the school holidays kicking in, life gets a bit mental. Kids are off, routines go out the window and trying to get everyone together on a Thursday becomes like herding cats. Rather than force it through the summer, we’ll hit pause and come back after the holidays with a fresh six-week block.
Huge thanks to everyone who’s come along over the last few months. It’s been brilliant seeing the class grow, and we’ll be back before you know it, even better than before!
Now… this is the bit that’s making me slightly uncomfortable.
I’ve been saying for ages that I need to be more consistent on social media, so here’s me forcing myself to do something about it.
Every Thursday while Thrive is off, I’m posting a Thursday Thought.
No fancy editing.
No scripts.
No pretending I’m some motivational guru standing in front of a mountain telling you to find your inner selves.
Just one take, whatever’s been rattling around in my head that week. It might be fitness, business, coaching or something completely random, (probably be the sh**ey weather).
If nothing else though, you’ll get to watch me awkwardly talk to my phone once a week. Could be great, could be cringe.
Either way, I’ll see you next Thursday.
Today’s Thrive was the week 6 “mash up” where we incorporate all the techniques and movements we have learned over the previous 5 weeks.
Always a fun session, especially on the hottest day of the year ☀️ 🥵
Thanks to everyone that came along and if you want to join in next week for the start of the next block send me a DM or click the link in the bio. 💪🏻
Today’s Thrive was a belter!
“Upper Push” was today’s theme where we worked on from for a flat dumbbell bench press and an incline dumbbell bench press along with some quality conditioning to the keep the heart rate up.
As always, we had the energy and fun. Maureen and I even managed a two - step together 🤣
Thrive takes place each and every Thursday in the functional space in Paisley PureGym. If you want to book in just hit the link in the bio above.
Stag do… done.
After the weekend we had there I expected the absolute worst.
Beers. Shots. Hardly any sleep. Grazing on chips and pizzas.
(and aye… the speedos with Sarah’s face all over them were unfortunately very real)
But here’s the thing…
One weekend doesn’t ruin progress.
What usually ruins progress is deciding: “Uch I’ll start again Monday.”
So this week?
Back to normal food.
Back to the gym.
Back to steps.
No punishment.
No starving.
Just back to normality… while remembering what an class weekend I had with an amazing bunch of lads ❤️
(Still emotionally recovering from the Highland cow outfit though 🤣)
Honestly right…
This has been the easiest time I’ve tried to get in better shape.
In the past I’ve hammered cardio, trained loads, dropped calories every week and slowly watched my strength disappear along the way.
It worked… but by the time I went on holiday I felt absolutely drained.
This time I decided to take a more sensible approach.
Calories in check Monday–Sunday.
Steps EVERY day.
Trained hard 5 times a week.
Kept cardio sensible.
Biggest change I made though?
Dropping the booze.
Now before anyone jumps on me here… I enjoy a drink.
A wine with dinner. A few beers at the weekend. Nothing wild.
But with the exception of Easter when family surprised us and a few days in Croatia, I’ve barely drank since the start of March.
Everything else stayed the same:
Steps.
Calories.
Cardio.
Training.
Turns out removing liquid calories and not feeling rough at the weekend makes the whole thing a hell of a lot easier.
Fantastic THRIVE class today where it’s back to Week 1 and our focus was the squat pattern.
As always a great wee turn out and brilliant community of folk all learning and working hard.

Andy and I started working together just short of 3 years ago on Dad Squad.
At that time, he wasn’t even really sure if I could help him.
This week he is flying to Poland this week to have excess skin removed.
That’s not a side effect of his journey. That’s the scale of it.
48kg gone.
His body couldn’t contain the change.
He didn’t need a new programme every month.
He didn’t need to be perfect.
He just needed to stop stopping.
That’s it.
