A look inside the skirt of The Tank Museum’s Duplex Drive Sherman. The corrugated platform bottom right is where the commander would stand when the tank was swimming. The two cylinders at the front of it were for his tillers, which allowed him to steer from this position. The canvas flotation screen is supported by green metal struts and black and white pipes. In service these would be inflated with compressed air, however, to preserve them this hasn’t been done.
