Pangbourne Canoe Cub is a friendly, family based marathon paddling club on the banks of the River Thames. We train on Saturday mornings, following a varied training programme throughout the Year mainly dependant on the weather!
We like to welcome New Members, and encourage those interested to join the ‘Intro to marathon paddling’ courses held in the summer. Over the 4 week course you will learn the basics of paddling technique and safety on the water and then be invited to join us in our training sessions.....to find out more about the course and how to join the club see our New Members page. Although our training is geared to competing, it is not compulsory to do so, but many find that they are bitten by the racing bug! Juniors begin in the Lightning class, U10 and U12 Girls and Boys before moving into the divisional system where all begin in Div 9. Promotions follow races and once in Div 6 the distance moves from 4 miles to 8, and again at Div 3 to 12 miles. Pangbourne CC competes in the Southern region of The Hasler Trophy, a national inter-club competition. The races are held from May to October and take place at different locations, on rivers and canals. It is also possible to race in out-of-region events, although the points do not count towards the results of the regional section. The top clubs in each region then go forward to the Hasler Finals, held in the Autumn at a different venue around the country each year. For more information why not browse the competitions menu at the top of this page. We regularly have members taking part in the Waterside Series which is held on the Kennet and Avon Canal, the Thameside pair of races. This is a run up to paddling in the Devizes to Westminster Canoe race which is held over the Easter weekend. We have an ever increasing in number junior section, many of whom paddle in other boat disciplines too, ably supported by a senior group, of coaches and volunteers, all crb checked

All Pangbourne crews finished the shortened Devizes to Westminster Race, which was stopped at Reading on Saturday due to increasing water flow . What turned out to be a difficult weekend for the organisers it was good to see the Pangbourne crews coping with rising levels on the canal and challenging conditions, both on water and over ground.
It is still unclear as to how or if there will be any official results, safe to say that all crews wore trackers and so all have a recorded time for their effort.
Well done Pangbourne!
[03/31/18] Everyone is going really well in very tough conditions. The event is changing slightly due to the conditions and the over night crews are now not allowed to do the Thames over a night. Please cheer any boats on that you see along the canal and I will update later today with how everyone is doing.
