We had Max Burroughs and Sonny Munn in welsh finals yesterday. Max was up first fighting against Kian jones Wrexham ABC, a very good action packed fight with max’s jab doing most of the work. Kian was a very strong will full opponent and after three very aggressive rds I thought the better boxing came from Max, as did most of the crowd. It was a very good fight and nobody could really grumble at the end of it because it was a case of two 11yr old lads giving it all thay had. I am very proud of Max as he had only 3 fights coming into these championships so it was mainly for experience but max went all the way and proved me right well done mate we are all proud of you.
Next up was Sonny munn chomping at the bit,the main thing I have to do with Sonny is keep him calm,and to stick to his aggressive boxing. He was fighting Josh squires, Gwent abc. Squires was a very strong lad with a buzzer saw type style coming in and out throwing lots of punches ,so sonny had his work cut out. Sonny was told that he had to work behind a strong jab and then come through with a strong backhand and he couldn’t afford to miss because jones wld be on him like a buzz saw. Sonny did this for three rds keeping jones in his plaice and winning by a unanimous decision and becoming the 44kg WELSH CHAMPION for the 1st time. Well done Sonny, me and everybody at penarth abc are very proud of you and iam sure penarth and dinas Powys is proud of you too

Had three lads fighting last night on the Hope and Glory ABC show in Mountain Ash. All three lads put on a great boxing performance.
1st up was Liam James vs Harry Moore Caerphilly ABC. I deliberately put a bit of pressure on Liam for this,as Liam has only had 3fights,and I wasn’t sure wether or not to put him in the championships,so I had to step him up in class. Harry was a perfect opponent with 20 fights under his belt a very good opponent. Harry had boxed Liams stable mate Sonny Munn a couple of months ago,so I expected this would be the test for Liam to see if he was ready for the championships. What a great fight it was,with Liam finishing on a unanimous points decision that confirmed Liam is ready for the welsh championships 👍.
Next up was Theo Anderson vs Coby Mills, Hope and Glory ABC. This fight looked a bit unbalanced as Theo was a foot taller than his opponent so Theo was told to keep it long with the jab and then come through with the back hand which he did very well. The ref had seen enough after a minute and he stopped the fight which was the right thing to do.
Next up we had Tom Stamp vs Taylor White, Hope and Glory ABC. Tom had fought Taylor before and won a very close, hard fight. Taylor was right up for this fight with all the crowd screaming and cheering their home boy on.
Tom started a little slow and was getting beaten to the punch for half of the round. Then he started working ,as I know he can,with strong jabs and powerful backhands,Tom pinched the first round,then took the second round comfortably giving Taylor a standing 8 count. Tom then started being very dangerous dropping his head down and pushing back up with it,and the referee had to give him a public warning which cancels out the standing count 🙉🤷.
So it was all on the last round which Tom won comfortably but still almost getting another public warning for dangerous use of the head ?🙉🤷It could have been a very good win if it was not for these errors which boxers usually start to do when thay are losing and getting desperate which Tom was not.
All in all, Penarth ABC had a great night with 3 fights and 3 good wins. Well done boys iam proud of you all!
We are all looking strong now ready for the Welsh ABA championships. Tom fights in two weeks and the schoolboy championships are the 1st week of May. We we will have a couple more fights before championships.
