Went to the .sauna last night for a sauna and cold plunge.

Well I enjoyed the sauna 😂. Plunge pool at 4 degrees was horrendous.

Lovely little place though 👍.

If you want a stronger, more resilient back for running and life, you need to be deadlifting. It is quite simply one of the best compound movements you can do.

But if you’re getting lower back pain every time you pull, look down at your feet.

In my gym, everyone deadlifts with their shoes off. Why? Because the single biggest issue I see is people lifting their toes off the floor as they pull the weight up.

When your toes lift, you lose your foundation. Your weight shifts completely into your heels, your hips drop into an awkward position, and your body compensates by dumping a massive amount of unnecessary stress directly into your lower back.

To lift safely and heavy, you need a “tripod foot”—your big toe, little toe, and heel must all be actively rooted into the floor.

Ditching the squishy trainers allows your feet to actually grip the ground. Keep your toes down, drive through the mid-foot, and watch your back pain disappear.

Stop lifting with your toes in the air. Root your feet. 🧠👣

When you break your ankle, don’t come crying to me. 🤫🏥

Every time your foot hits the floor, that massive stack of soft foam compresses unevenly. If you hit a slight stone, a curb, or a bit of uneven trail, the shoe exaggerates the wobble. Because your foot is so high off the ground, the leverage on your joint is massive—giving you the perfect recipe for a severe ankle roll.

Worse still, because the foam is so thick, it numbs your nervous system.

Your brain can’t even feel that the ankle is turning until it’s already too late and the ligaments are stretched.

You don’t need a thicker mattress under your foot. You need ankle stability and a lower centre of mass.
