1st XI update:

The curtain came down on our hundredth season earlier today as the 1st XI confirmed runners up spot in Division 1 of the Eden Valley Cricket League with a 70 run victory over Carlisle 3rd XI.
Although also suffering a narrow defeat in the final of the League Cup it has still been a hugely enjoyable and successful season and most importantly it has seen the further progression of several of our Junior players….
Robbie Greenwood and Alex Clement have both become integral members of the team along with the emergence of Lucas Worth and James Moran, both of whom have shown their promise for future seasons.
We’ve also been privileged to witness the explosive batting of Alastair Carle who joined on the eve of the season and scored 1189 runs in just 18 innings including some of the biggest sixes ever witnessed on several grounds.
Well done to everyone involved, in particular your exemplary conduct on and off the field. 👏👏🏏🏏

A well contested match for the 2nds today at Threlkeld saw us come up just short.
A really good bowling performance, spread across every Stainton player, saw Threlkeld score 158 for 7 on a good pitch that lent itself to runs.
In reply, some good bowling from Threlkeld, not least from their juniors, saw some of our often prolific scorers struggle to really get going. Though well ahead of the required rate throughout, Stainton couldn’t quite stem the fall of wickets to see things home. But it was a great game, in fine weather and setting, and with the usual excellent hospitality from Threlkeld. Thank you!
Everybody got a bat and everybody got a bowl, so a good day out.
With the ball Daniel, Max and Oli bowled really tightly at the top of the innings, bowling 10 overs for just 34 runs between them.
Later, some quality spin at both ends saw James take 1 for 5 from 4 overs and Sam Heron had an excellent return of 3-17 from his 5.
Some tidy bowling from Will and Alex concluded things with Alex bowling 3 overs for just one single!
With the bat, James made his first Sunday ‘50’ - 52 not out from 46.
Lucas was going very well with 17 from as many balls before he holed out. And Robbie looked like he might see us home with 35 from 43 before he succumbed to a really good ball. He also kept very well.
Nobody else could quite get going today though, and so we finished 23 short. But a great game in really good spirits at one of the best looking grounds in England….and a very good tea too! So, it’s hard to complain!

It’s taken just seven weeks for the club’s record 3rd wicket partnership of 222, between Alastair Carle and Nick Hodgson to be broken…

Yesterday it was Tim Jackson and Robbie Greenwood piling up the runs as together they put on 223 to set a new record at home to Lanercost 2nds.

Both players batted brilliantly as Tim with 94 and Robbie with 92no led the 1sts to 248 for 3 from their allotted 40 overs.

In reply, Lanercost were 128/4 from 26.2 overs when the heavens opened preventing any further play.

It’s been as hugely enjoyable season in Division 1 of the Eden Valley Cricket League and we look forward to more exciting and competitive games over the coming weeks. 👍🏏
