🌿 **Back to Basics · Update · 16th May**
Only 5 places left .
Here’s the thing nobody’s saying loudly enough right now. The world is a lot. The bills are brutal. The news is relentless. Have I got enough petrol to fill my car? And most of us are walking around going *I don’t know why I feel so tense, nothing’s actually that wrong, hey ho* - doing our yoga, walking the dog, trying to hold it all together - while our nervous systems have been quietly running on threat response for years.
And some people aren’t just a bit tense. Some people are on their knees. The usual stuff - the yoga, the walks, the self-care - just isn’t cutting it anymore and they don’t know why. That’s not failure. That’s not weakness. That’s a nervous system that has been in survival mode for so long it doesn’t know how to do anything else. And the problem is - you don’t know what you don’t know. Nobody told you that before you can really move, you need to be able to breathe. That before the body can let go, it needs to feel safe enough to. That the tension that won’t shift, the exhaustion that sleep doesn’t fix, the breathing that never quite reaches the bottom of your lungs - that’s not just stress. That’s biology. And it can change.
That’s what Back to Basics is actually about.
Tall Trees Barn is small and beautiful and we are keeping it that way. This is not a class of thirty people. You will actually be seen, supported, and able to ask questions.
A few people have asked if it’s a beginners class - it really isn’t. It’s for people who already move and want to understand what’s actually going on underneath. The nervous system. The diaphragm. The foundations that explain why the things you’re already doing sometimes don’t quite land the way you’d like.
It’s not woo-woo. It’s not academic. It’s functional, embodied work for real people navigating a genuinely difficult world.
Between us, Carolinr and I have 40 years of experience in movement, breath and bodywork. This is our first collaboration and honestly it’s been a long time coming 😄

WORKSHOP
BACK TO BASICS
Practical, embodied tools for everyday life.
The 16th May - 10:00am till 1:30pm
BACK TO BASICS
A Half-Day Workshop: Movement, Breath & Nervous System Regulation
This workshop offers an exploratory space for people to reconnect with foundational movement, breath and body awareness. It’s a chance to come back to the basics - to realign, rebalance and better understand the systems that support how we move, breathe and feel.
Susannah and I share a real love and curiosity for how the human body works. We know that when the right knowledge is applied well, we can support this incredible structure we live in with more care, attention and understanding. That’s why we’re excited to bring you the Back to Basics workshop.
Together, we bring 40 years of combined experience in movement, breath practices and understanding how the body and nervous system work. Over that time, we’ve both noticed a shift in what people need. The strategies that once worked don’t always land in the same way now. With attention being pulled in so many directions, stress levels rising and energy levels dipping, many people are feeling stretched, overloaded and disconnected from their bodies.
You’ll have the experience of two facilitators, two lenses and one shared aim: helping people build more capacity, feel less overwhelmed and access practical ways to support themselves well.
We can pay huge amounts of money for one-off sessions to help stabilise an injury, support a chronic health condition, ease pain or improve energy. That support matters. But we also want to show people how to support themselves at home, so you are not always looking for something outside yourself to help you feel better.
This workshop cuts through the noise and gives people simple, functional tools they can use every day to feel more balanced, move more freely and build a better reserve of energy. It’s not about perfection. It’s about learning what your baseline actually is and what helps.
These are practical, embodied tools for everyday life.
The Invitation
Come and explore where your baseline actually is. Discover simple practices that help you:
understand what’s happening in your body and nervous system
access your foundation through the diaphragm, feet and core
build more capacity to meet whatever life throws at you
take home small, manageable practices that feel realistic to use
Caroline: Gentle settling, alignment-based movement, awareness of compensatory patterns, and helping people reconnect with steadier, more supported movement.
Susannah: Direct biomechanics, diaphragm mechanics, muscle activation and functional nervous system work, including myofascial release ball work.
Workshop Structure
*9:45 - 10 - Arrival - time to grab a cuppa and settle into the beautiful space
10 -10:30 - Settling & Orientation - gentle somatic check-in and introduction to the day's theme - Caroline
*10:30 - 12:00 - Diaphragm, Breath & Foundational Movement - ball work introduction, baseline assessment, diaphragm release, muscle activation (feet, hip flexors, glutes) and functional movement integration - Susannah
*12 - 12:30 - Lunch break - refreshments and snacks provided
*12:30 - 1:30 - Alignment & Integration Practice - alignment-based movement, bringing awareness back into the foundation, exploring compensatory patterns and closing practice - Caroline
The workshop will be:
functional but not clinical
grounded in science without being academic
supported by simple visual charts to explain how the nervous system works and help people discover where they are on the day
playful and exploratory, without forced perfection or positivity
full of real tools for real people dealing with real life
This is about capacity and resilience, not perfection. It’s about what actually helps you move through your day with a little more ease, steadiness and support.

Lovely feedback from Jenna Louise Counselling & Psychotherapy. Thank you Jenna.
I love holding these mini morning Yoga retreats.
It’s just the right amount of time , 3hrs in the morning, so you still have the rest of the day.
Yet that 3hrs can be really powerful.
I often get the feedback
- I feel like I’ve had a holiday !
- I had no idea how much I needed that. I loved it.
- I feel so much lighter and energised.
- I feel calm and relaxed and I’ve not felt like that in ages.
- you gave me the space to just be and that felt important in a busy world
- my body feels better, not as stiff or achy. I feel much more freedom in how I move.
The venue is stunning too , the people lovely, yummy snacks and just a bit of time out for yourself 💕
The next two April dates are full. But I’ll post the new dates soon.
I hope you can join me x
