Sunderland west end Vs Durham Coast Match report

After a couple of weeks break we played our first game of preseason against a west end team that finished 3rd in their division, 4 divisions above us. So we knew this would be a great test to see where the lads are at.

The game kicked off with the lads looking a little nervous in the opening minutes with west end immediately putting pressure on our back line to force an early corner. From the kick we have managed to clear the ball to the edge of the box where their striker has fired it wide. West end were piling on the pressure and went close again when the ball broke to the left winger who’s first time effort went past the post.
Midway through the half the lads started to settle into the game and after some great build up play in the middle of the park, Bobby has set Ollie away down the right, Ollie has cut back inside the fullback and squared it to Kellan who has arrived late only to put his first time effort just past the post.
The lads were gradually growing into the game, then out of nowhere found ourselves a goal behind. Some brilliant play from their centre midfielder as seen him break through our defence and fire past Theo into the bottom corner to make it 0-1!
West end went back on the ascendancy straight from the restart, and nearly added a quick second but were thwarted by an excellent reaction save by Theo.

Half time 0-1!

Second half we come out with a fire in our belly and were matching West End physically which was great to see as it’s being a part of the game we have sometimes struggled with.
10 minutes into the second half some lovely build up down the left between Ollie and Ruben saw the latter play the ball into the channel where Bobby has fired into the side netting from a tight angle.
The lads were beginning to find their feet and went close again following more nice interplay on the edge of the box, that saw Kellan fire wide.
With 10 minutes to go we kept pressing for the equaliser and went close again as the ball was worked from left to right wing resulting in Emmett drawing a great save from the keeper to turn it out for a corner.
We were throwing bodies forward in search of the equaliser which left us a little short of numbers at the back.
Defensively we looked absolutely solid however with the back line timing tackles to perfection and covering excellently for each other.
With a couple of minutes to go we went on the attack again, with little 1-2’s seeing us work our way into the box where the ball has dropped to Emmett who unfortunately has fired just wide.

Full time 0-1!

MOTM - Josh L - Opposition manager gave this to Josh as he said he had to change his right winger 3 times during the game as none of them could get past him.

A narrow defeat against a team that have just had a great season 4 divisions up is a testament to how far our lads have come over the last couple of seasons.👏👏

Consett Rockets V Durham Coast Match Report

After what has been the longest season knowing to man, today we made the long journey over to Consett for our final game of the season.
With Derwentside confirmed as champions following a midweek win, we went in today a point behind Hebburn in second knowing a draw would see us guarantee promotion due to our superior goal difference.

You could feel from the first whistle that the lads were a little nervous and a few stray passes nearly saw Consett get through on goal, luckily Josh L was switched on to cover round and make a great tackle to clear the ball. This seemed to wake the lads up with captain Theo rallying the lads.
After the shaky start, we sharp settled into the game and on 5 minutes set away on our first attack. Some great build up down the right hand side saw Bobby get to the byline and whip a dangerous ball across goal that the Consett centre half has getting to just before Ollie to clear.
The momentum was with Durham, and on 10 minutes we opened the scoring through a goal that caused some confusion amongst everyone. Emmett has ran the channel excellently to win the ball back, cut inside and struck a wicked strike low towards goal. From our angle it looked as though it had hit the barrier at the back of the goal and rebounded into the net behind the goal. It had however went into the bottom corner to make it 1-0!
The lads pressed straight from the restart winning the ball high and nearly added an immediate second. Josh L winning the ball back and playing it out to Ollie on the left wing, who has cut inside onto his right and fired just past the far post.
On 20 minutes the lads deservedly doubled the lead, this was following a series of short 1-2’s through the midfield, playing round the Consett players as if they weren’t there. This saw us work the ball out to Bobby on the right, who’s cross was cleared to the edge of the box where it has dropped perfectly to Alfie on the half volley to fire into the top corner making it 2-0!
At this point we were in party mood and were passing the ball around like 2009 Barcelona.
The great link up play nearly brought a third goal, with Alfie playing a rabona throughball to Bobby who drove into the box only for his effort to be deflected onto the post and out for a corner.
Another wicked delivery from Ollie has saw Alfie nip in at the back post but his volley was somehow scrambled off the line.
With 5 minutes of the half remaining, Emmett had extended our lead. Again pressing from the front, he has won the ball back high, took on 2 defenders and fired into the far corner to make it 3-0!

Half time 3-0!

The second half we knew Consett were going to come out on the attack and it was as much about maintaining our first half levels to manage the game.
We started the second half in similar fashion to the first, Ruben getting the ball down then linking up with Kellan to play Joseph down the right hand channel, winning us a corner.
Another dangerous delivery from Ollie has somehow evaded our attackers allowing Consett the opportunity to clear it long.
We continued to press forward looking to add another goal and went close as Bobby/Kellan played two 1-2’s to get inside the box, only for Bobbys low effort to be well saved at the near post by the Consett keeper.
With 12 remaining and against the run of play, Consett pulled a goal back. A ball over the top saw their forward disputably beating the offside to finish past Theo giving him no chance to make it, 1-3!
Consett felt that they were back in this game and went straight back on the attack down the left. A dangerous cross has took a wicked deflection on the way towards goal, luckily Theo was alert to it and made a great reaction save to push it away from goal.
Going into the final 10 another ball over the top has caught us and we have conceded a penalty that Consett have converted to make it 2-3!
The final 5 minutes the lads dug in though, utilising all of the tricks needed to see the game out and cement our 2nd place finish!

Full time; 2-3!

⚽️⚽️Emmett
⚽️Alfie

MOTM - Josh L - Defensively solid as always, covering round for his teammates and putting in some great strong challenges. Looked confident playing out from the back setting us away on several attacks as well!

And there you have it, Back to Back Promotions! 👏👏👏

Think if you asked us 3 coaches where we think we would be 2.5 years none of us would’ve said where we are today.

The majority of the lads have been with us since day one and have worked their socks off to get to this point, so a massive thanks to the lads from us for their hard work (& occasional listening😂)

Thanks to Cal Hodge for some excellent coaching sessions during the season.

Also massive thanks to the parents who have stuck with the team especially in the early days, and to the new additions who have helped drive us forward this season!

Finally a massive thanks to all our sponsors for all your continued support

Sunderland Velocity Vs Durham Coast Match report

In our penultimate game of the season, we made the early journey over to Sunderland to face a velocity team who in our last meeting in the cup inflicted the heaviest defeat of 25/26 on us, 5-1, so to get anything from this game we knew we had to be on it.

With just 9 available, a couple of which were carrying knocks, to get anything from today’s game would take a monumental effort from the lads.

Kicking down the bank we couldn’t have dreamed of getting off to a better start than we did. In the opening 2 minutes, Emmett has broken down the right wing to win us an early corner. Ollie has whipped in a dangerous delivery and with Josh c making a nuisance of himself in the 6 yard box, he has forced the defender to scuff his clearance, the ball has dropped to Bobby who has struck a half volley straight into the top corner, 1-0! This seemed to give the lads an extra spring in their step and on 10 minutes we nearly doubled our lead, Alfie with some great build up play fed the ball into Emmett but his shot was well saved by the velocity keeper. The lads were winning every 50-50 in the middle of the park and you could see each one of them were working hard for their team mates that whenever a velocity player had the ball, there were 2 Durham coast players swarming round them to win it back! We went to push for a second and were rewarded with 10 minutes of the half remaining, some great work again through the middle by Alfie has fed Joseph, his shot was blocked and the rebound has fell to Ollie who has passed it into the bottom corner to make it 2-0! With minutes remaining of the half, we went close to adding a third, unfortunately this time Emmetts shot has gone just over the bar.

Half time 2-0!

With the sun getting hotter and kicking up the bank With no subs, the second half was as much about game management as it was going for more goals. As expected, velocity went straight on the attack from the kick off, pressuring our back line into winning an early throw near the corner. From the throw in, their striker has broke into the box, luckily Kellan was switched onto the danger with a great interception.

For all, Velocity were putting on pressure, Theo had remained untested until he was called upon twice in a 2 minute spell. First with velocity breaking down the left, their winger has cut inside to fire a shot at goal that Theo has dived to handle excellently.
From Theo’s clearance, velocity have won the ball back and come straight back on the attack, this time their dangerous number 9 striking an excellent half volley from the edge of the box, again Theo was alert to it, diving low to his right and managing to hold onto the ball again! With 10 minutes to go, velocity pulled a goal back, following a bit of pinball on the edge of the box, the ball has broken the wrong way and their forward has pounced to make it 2-1!
The lads knew they were in for a big last 10 and immediately went on the attack, Emmett has broke down the right wing and whipped in a dangerous delivery across the 6 yard box that has somehow evaded everyone.
From Velocity’s throw in, we have won the ball back high and worked it from left to right, Alfie has then fed the ball back to Josh C who’s effort from 25 yards has skimmed the top of the crossbar. Into the last 5 and with Velocity pushing again, they’ve won a freekick on the edge of our box.
With our parents stood with hearts in mouths their striker has struck the ball, and Theo again has caught the shot, alleviating the danger. Thankfully, we managed to run down the clock and see the game out for a 2-1 win!

Full time 2-1!

⚽️Bobby
⚽️Ollie

Today as coaches, we gave all the lads MOTM as that was a team effort against a very good team with a performance that we couldn’t have been prouder of.

Post match however, I had a text from Velocity’s coach, who picked out one of our players, and I think the lads all agreed with this selection in the post match team talk.

So today’s MOTM is going to;- Josh C - A big physical presence today, winning his battle against their winger and was a presence in both boxes. Can rightly claim an assist for our first goal and went close himself with a great long range effort.

Brandon Vs Durham Coast Match Report

Tonight we played another reverse fixture against a team we only played a few weeks ago. On a pitch with no markings, and 2/3’s the size it’s meant to be, with a bank thrown in for good measure! We knew tonight wasn’t going to be a game we could get the ball down to play, so had to mix it with Brandon physically.

Kicking up the bank for the first half, this was a case of managing the game, ensuring we weren’t allowing long clearances to bounce and that Theo was alert to the balls over the top. In the opening minutes, Brandon did as expected and went long, a clearance from the keeper bouncing over our back line only for Theo to be switched on and catching the ball before their attacker could get there. From Theo’s clearance we nearly caught Brandon out as the ball has bounced over their centre half but Emmetts effort was well saved by the keeper. The rest of the half followed a similar pattern until 5 minutes before half time we have conceded a corner down the right. After working on defending corners in training last week, it’s fair to say we could have attacked the cross better, unfortunately there striker has won the header to make it, 0-1!

Half time, 0-1!

Despite the ball spending a lot of the time in the air, we were comfortable at 0-1 knowing we were kicking downhill for the second half. Straight from kick off we thought we would try our luck, Emmett has rolled the ball back to Josh L, whose effort from the halfway line has gone narrowly wide of the upright. The lads clicked that if there was a chance to shoot we needed to take it. 10 minutes into the second half and we were level. With the ball bouncing around in the middle of Brandon’s half, Alfie has a took a touch to set himself and then struck the sweetest half volley right into the stanchion, adding to his own highlight reel of worldies this season, to make it 1-1!
Momentum was fully with us, and we went close again as a dangerous corner from Joseph was somehow cleared off the goal line by some great defending. Going into the final 10 we were pushing for a winner and were rewarded for our efforts with another excellent finish. A poor clearance has saw the ball drop to Will, who’s attempted shot was blocked by their centre half, luckily it’s fell straight into Emmetts path who has hit a half volley straight into the far top corner, 2-1! With the narrow pitch, the final minutes saw us manage the game by winning loads of throw ins, killing time until the final whistle was blown.

Full time 2-1!

Seaham Roseberry Park V Durham Coast Match Report

In the reverse game to a few weeks ago, we faced a Roseberry team that have had a strong finish to the season, so to give ourselves a chance of promotion we knew we had to be at it this morning.

The game kicked off and you could see Roseberry wanted to finish their season on a high, with them immediately on the attack. In the opening 10 minutes it seemed to be wave after wave of Roseberry pressure with them going close to opening the scoring on a couple of occasions, luckily for us their efforts went wide.
Roseberry continued on the front foot and nearly took the lead on 15 minutes when their pacy striker got in down the left channel, rounded Theo on the edge of the box but just as he was about to shoot, Josh L has covered round to clear the ball off the line for the corner.
20 minutes in we created our first chance of the game, following some nice build up down the right with Josh C, Alfie and Joseph, the latter has squared the ball across the 6 yard box but just as we thought Bobby was about to tap in to an empty goal, their centre half has come from nowhere to clear for a corner.
With 5 minutes of the half remaining we fell behind to a well finished goal. Theo has come racing out of his box to clear a through ball, unfortunately he has scuffed his clearance straight to the Roseberry midfielder who has struck it first time over his head into the empty net, 0-1!

Half time 0-1!

At the break we challenged the lads to show a bit of character and let them lead the team talk.
From the restart the lads started to play football with Kellan, Will and Joseph working lovely triangles to set Emmett away down the right hand side, unfortunately his low cross was cleared for an early corner.
A wicked delivery from Joseph to the back post has managed to evade all of the Durham heads for the Roseberry defender to head behind for another corner.
The second one was as dangerous as the first, with our distinct lack of height being our downfall as Roseberrys defenders easily cleared.
It felt as though we were growing into the game and ten minutes into the second half we were back on level terms, a quick 1-2 between Emmett and Kellan has seen the former through on goal. Just as he was about to strike the ball his legs were taken away winning us a penalty. Emmett has picked himself up and finished brilliantly into the top corner from the spot to make it 1-1!
At this point we thought that the lads would continue on the front foot, but Roseberry had other ideas and were utilising their pacy forward by going in behind our back line.
Midway through the half we nearly fell behind as a ball down the left channel has seen the nippy striker beat the offside trap, but just as he was about to get a shot off, Josh L again has covered round from left back to tackle him.
With 10 to go we were finally caught from the simplest of balls straight down the centre of the pitch, with their striker beating the offside trap he had carried the ball into the box and finished into the bottom corner to make it 2-1!
Needing to get something from the game, we pushed further forward with Emmett and Alfie both drawing excellent saves from their keeper.
With 5 to go and not thinking we were going to get something, Alfie has popped up with an absolute worldie of a half volley from the corner of the box firing into the stanshion, 2-2!
Into the final minute and we have won another corner, following a scramble inside the 6 yard box, Emmett has brought the ball down and finished into the bottom corner to nick the win at the death, 2-3!

Durham Coast V Foundation of Light match Report

After back to back 1-1 draws the lads were back in action this morning looking to get back to winning ways against a Foundation of light team that had shown an upturn of form following a slow start to the season.

With the non stop rain over the last 24 hours the game was touch and go with water building in the goalmouth, luckily some quick groundsman work by the coaches to clear it meant the game went ahead.

After Tuesdays disappointment of not getting the win, the lads were challenged to start quickly and they duly obliged.
Straight from kick off and some calm passing build up in the centre of the pitch, Alfie slid the ball behind the FOL defence for Emmett to latch onto, and without having to break stride, Emmett has finished with his left foot past the onrushing keeper from the edge of the area, 1-0!

The early goal gave the lads an extra spring in their step and some of the passing football played was a joy to watch. On 10 minutes we went close to adding a second, again some great build up play down the left saw Bobby cut in but his shot was blocked, the rebound has dropped to Joseph at the edge of the box but his strike has gone just wide of the far post.

Midway through the half and after several blocked attempts at goal, we finally added a deserved second. This time Emmett has won the ball back on the edge of the box following an excellent high press, he has took one touch and fired across the keeper into the far corner to make it 2-0!

The lads continued to dominate play and with 5 minutes of the half remaining we killed the game. Ruben and Alfie played a lovely 1-2 with the latter sliding the ball in behind the defence where Emmett has latched onto calmly finish into the bottom corner to make it 3-0!

Half time 3-0!

You could feel the confidence brimming at half time amongst the lads and they started the second half immediately on the front foot. This time attacking down the right hand side the ball was fed down the line by Joseph to Emmett, who has took a touch and fired straight into the side netting.

After dominating the first 10 minutes of the second half we duly added a fourth and it was no other than Emmett again. Another simple through-ball from Ruben this time has seen Emmett latch onto it and round the keeper to make it 4-0!

The lads were really enjoying themselves at this point, so much so that our centre half Kellan has carried the ball from his own half playing a couple of 1-2’s and ended up in the FOL box, where his shot was blocked by a last ditch tackle stopping what could have been goal of the season!

Into the final 10 minutes and we added a fifth, this time Bobby has broke from full back to the edge of the box, his shot has deflected of the FOL defender into the box, Ruben has latched onto it firing a shot towards goal that the keeper has parried, luckily Emmett was the quickest to react to tap into the empty net, 5-0!

With Emmett on for a double hat-trick, he has broke into the box down the left, but instead of shooting, he has unselfishly squared the ball to Joseph who has unfortunately shot just wide. Not to be denied however, in the final minutes we added a sixth. Kellan with some lovely skill on the left wing has cut inside his fullback (reminiscent of Jack Clarke) and curled the ball into the far top corner to make it 6-0!

Full time 6-0!

⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️ Emmett
⚽️Kellan

MOTM - Emmett - In this mood, Emmett is unstoppable. From the first minute he pressed from the front and was a constant threat in behind the FOL defence. Rightly rewarded for his efforts with 5 excellent goals taking him to 25 in the league for the season 👏👏

Consett Derwentside Vs Durham Coast Match Report

Tonight we made the long journey over to Consett to play another of the catch up games against the only unbeaten team in the division.

On a pitch that can only be described as a cow field on top of a mountain, we set out with the intentions to attack the game and straight from kick off we went down the right wing winning a throw in on the edge of the box. From the throw, Joseph’s cross was deflected out for the first of a series of corners that we couldn’t capitalise on.
The lads continued to get the ball down and following some more good build up down the left wing, Bobby has squared the ball to Kellan who has fired his shot just wide of the post. Consett were sitting really deep and in the opening 15 minutes it was all Durham attacks, we struggled however to break through the 7 defenders they seemed to be playing with! After the comfortable start, we were dealt a body blow from nowhere where a long ball over the top as saw the ball drop to their striker who has finished past Theo to make it, 0-1!
The lads quickly regrouped following this setback and went on the attack again, Joseph this time firing just wide from distance. With 5 minutes to go in the half we thought we’d won a blatant penalty as the ball broke to Bobby, his standing leg was kicked just as he was about to shoot but instead of a penalty the ref decided to give a corner completely bamboozling us all!
As Kellan was about to take the corner, Consetts coach has shouted it’s not in the D from the opposite side of the pitch(he must have ate a lot of carrots to see that!) The resulting kick dropped to the edge of the box where Will’s shot was blocked by their defender and then the referee decided to blow for half time.

Half time 0-1!

The incident with the corner seemed to rile the lads up and the half time team talk took care of itself. We started the second half as we had the first, on the front foot looking for any openings against what was now 8 defenders to breakthrough!
Our build up play down the left almost created an opening, as the ball was slid through to Emmett he’s had it nicked off his toes as he was about to shoot, with the ball going behind for a corner.
Again, the opposition coach notified the ref that the ball wasn’t in the D! As the pitch was on a 20 degree decline, Kellan had to place the ball there so it didn’t roll down the bank! From the corner, a scramble in the box saw Alfie’s shot deflect out to the onrushing Josh L who has fired just wide from outside the box.
You could feel the momentum was with us, and midway through the half we had another penalty shout. Emmett breaking into the box down the left, and a defender has kicked his legs away, Emmett with his strikers instinct has stopped on his feet to try to get a shot off , but a covering defender has put the ball out for another corner.
Another dangerous delivery cleared the defenders, unfortunately again there was nobody on the end of it. With 10 minutes to go, we were finally rewarded for the effort we had put into the game to this point. Following some great build up down the right, Ruben has crossed the ball into the box where Alfie has brought it down and from the edge of the box, fired low into the bottom corner under the keeper to make it 1-1!
Straight from the restart, Consett nearly caught us with another long ball over the top, luckily Theo was alert to the attack, turning the ball round the post for a corner. From the corner, Theo has claimed it with an excellent catch and set us away on the attack with a great ball out to Joseph, who has taken a touch and set Emmett away. Emmett has drove down the right wing and fired his shot just past the near post. With 5 minutes to go we have broke again, an excellent ball into the channel by Kellan has saw Emmett go close for a second time, this time a bobble as he was about to shoot has saw him drag his shot wide. Consett killed the game for the last couple of minutes content with the draw.

Full time 1-1!

MOTM - Jensen - Has added aggression to his game the last few weeks, stepping in to win the ball on numerous occasions against a striker who was twice his size. A calming influence at the back and was starting attacks with his clever passing through the lines.

I could not fault any of our lads tonight, 100% effort and application against an unbeaten team. The referee even commented at how good we are and deserved a lot more from that game!

Thanks once again to our sponsors, rocking up to games looking like a proper team in nice kit/training tops/coats is definitely reflected in the season we have had. 👏👏👏

Tournament day

Game 1 V Shildon

Frantic first game that saw us go a goal down from Shildons first attack.
Luckily Will has dragged us out of the mire with a thunderbolt from distance to see the game finish 1-1!

Game 2 V Ferryhill
Another 100mph game that saw us go close a couple of times, most notably Bobby having his shot turned onto the post. Full time 0-0!

Game 3 V Leven
Finally settled and looked the team that we are. Alfie with a great goal from the edge of the box. Emmett was next with a great solo goal, taking on 3 defenders to make it 2-0. We conceded a late goal following a counter attack, full time 2-1!

Game 4 V Gretton Crest
After finally turning up in game 3 we continued to play well in the final group game. Gretton defended well to hold us to a 0-0 draw.

With 3 teams finishing level on points we had a penalty shoot out to decide who finished second between us and Gretton .

3 perfectly executed penalties from Emmett, Ollie and Kellan saw us finish second to go through to the main trophy semi finals.

Semi final against a Darlington team who comprehensively won their side of the group stages and had been the stand out team of the day.

For the 18 minutes we created the better of the chances with Emmett going close on a couple of occasions. We restricted Darlington to pumping it long as we tried to get the ball down to play football. After a tense 18 minutes the game finished 0-0.

Unfortunately this time we were unlucky in the shootout losing 3-2.

The lads put in a great effort today in blistering heat and we have to take the positives that we went unbeaten in all 5 games we played.

There was no MOTM today but just want to give a special mention to Jensen who was top drawer in every game today. Won every duel and drove us forward on several occasions playing out from the back.

Big thanks once again to our sponsors for your continued backing
