Strathtay Golf Club is a short but spectacular course set in rural Perthshire Each tee marker tells a little of the history of that hole.

The course was laid out in 1909 by Captain Steuart of Ballechin and saw only minor alterations for almost one hundred years. During 2008 the club decided to add nine additional tees to mark the imminent centenary of the club and the new layout has been very well received by members and visitors alike. A booklet telling the history of the club is available at Strathtay Stores and can be downloaded

It has been a very successful couple of days for our small club. On Thursday our member Geoff Porter won division 2 of the Gent's Senior Open at Deeside Golf Club. He also had the highest stableford points on the day and was nearest the pin!!

On Saturday Simon Gray and John MacBeth won away from home at Boat of Garten in the Daily Mail foursomes, 1up.

Yesterday at Killin in the Stroyan, a county event which is 18 holes of strokeplay foursomes held over a 9 hole golf course, Brian Brown and Geoff Porter were the winners with a better back 9 of the handicap section with a fantastic net 65 (1 under par) This is the second time Strathtay have won this competition in the last three years.

The pairing of Simon Gray & John MacBeth were the runners up in the scratch section with an 8 over par 74.

Pictured are Geoff Porter and Brian Brown being congratulated by Perth and Kinross County's Secretary, Norman Dyce

On Sunday, following a very close and competitive match against Murrayshall at Gleneagles on the PGA Centenary Course, we just came up short to winning the Bell Trophy losing 4-1. Three of the matches were lost 1 down!
Sometimes it can be a very fine line to winning or losing.
Well done to the members who played in the final and also to those who played in the previous rounds, you did the club proud. For such a small club it was a fantastic achievement reaching the final for the second time in 3 years. The club would like to thank those who caddied and to the supporters who came along, it was very much appreciated.

A fantastic effort by Strathtay gents who won the Cowan Cup yesterday at Dunkeld and Birnam Golf Club. This competition has been played since 1910 between the 7 Highland Perthshire clubs. Teams of six participate with the 4 lowest net scores counting towards the teams aggregate total.

Our winning score of 291 was 4 better than Pitlochry Golf and Pro Shop. An excellent accomplishment by the team as we defended the trophy and being the first club to do so since Blair Atholl Golf Club in 2005.

Despite the awful wet conditions the course stood up well and the soup and sandwiches supplied after were much appreciated.

An excellent performance from the team consisting of Graham Forsyth (68) who also won the best net score of the day, Geoff Porter (70) who had the third lowest net score with a BB9, Keith Walker (75), Brian Brown (78), Simon Gray (79) and John MacBeth (79). Gavin Dott from Kenmore had the lowest scratch score of 70 ( 1 over par )
