This week has really tested my thinking and I have called into play the Above the Line Model. ๐ง
This model is simple in its idea though can be difficult to implement. Quite often we fall Below the Line in our thinking and look to:
โ Blame
โ Excuse
โ Deny
what has happened. We look to Blame others, Deny we were at fault, and/or create Excuses for our behaviour. ๐ฅบ
Yet if we move Above the Line then we take:
โ Accountability
โ Ownership
โ Responsibility
of actions, behaviour and thinking. We start to look at what we can do and acknowledge what was in our control (ie ourselves) ๐ฎ
Though this model plays across all areas of our lives it became more prominent for me in respect of hockey. Over a period of 5 days I played 4 games for 3 different teams. Unfortunately we lost all the games (I know I am the common denominator ๐). Initially I laid in my BED of Below the Line thinking, blaming my team mates, creating excuses and denying I had any part to play.
But as I began to paddle my way through my thoughts my OAR guided me to take ownership of my actions, take accountability of my behaviour and responsibility of what I did. I noted I did not look after my body properly, I did not eat, sleep or nurture my body well. I am only responsible for what I did and I did not always give the right pass, make the right play or keep my head up. ๐ง
Moving forward I have noted my part in this and rather than look at others and just lie in my BED. I would gain more from using my OAR to glide through the ebbs and flows of life. ๐ฃโโ๏ธ
Next time things go wrong be more Above the Line!

This Week is Place2Be's Children's Mental Health Week!
The theme is "Know yourself, Grow yourself" ๐ฑ
This is based in children being empowered to better understand their emotions and build resilience.
I would add this is encouraging a Growth Mindset rather than a Fixed Mindset, continuing the curiosity we have as a child and can so easily lose as an adult. Maintaining Mental Flexibility and the drive to explore, learn and try things. Never lose the sense of being a curious child! ๐

For me there is such a link between physical and mental health. Working on one can be positive for the other.

Hello,
Wherever you are and whatever you are doing, are you taking notice?๐ค
Often we get caught up in thinking about our past or what to do next. We remember what has gone before and start to predict the future. ๐ฎ
Now this is not all bad but we can lose sight of the now. We do not always know what is going to happen and we cannot always rely on the past. But we can become so consumed by it that we can become lost or frightened ๐ง It can hold us back!
Now sometimes the past absolutely holds the key and motivates us to go forward. It gives us the strength and knowledge to achieve what we want. ๐
So the next time you are stuck ask yourself:
โญ Am I looking at things now?
โญ Is my past holding me back?
โญ Is my past helping me positively?
โญ Have I noticed what is going on or have I lost sight of the here and now?
โญ Is what I am feeling and thinking related to what is going on now?
โญ Are you scared to push forward due to your past?
Now you may be able to recognise when you have lost focus of the here and now and sometimes you may need more support to understand yourself more. To learn why you do what you do. You may need therapy, counselling or coaching to support you to be more present. โค
To check whether you can focus on the here and now, next time you do something or go somewhere really notice the here and now. Observe how quickly you can lose sight of it ie thinking about dinner, when to pick the kids up, what to do when you get home, and so on. When you notice you have shifted bring yourself back to the here and now! It is all practice. Then when you are asking the bigger questions as above it hopefully becomes easier.

Happy New Year! Think, it is still okay to say that? ๐
So it has been a while since I posted but, a new year brings a new plan of action. ๐
Last year was one of concentrating on other things rather than spreading myself too thin. It was a year of ups and downs but a chance to take stock and focus on where I wanted to go. Though I decided to step back and concentrate on personal things I also jumped at opportunities presented to me. One of these was becoming a fifty50 Partner Coach.
This partnership has opened me up to another world but aligned with my values and hopes for the future. They aim to โHelp businesses to create a mentally fit workforce where people can thriveโ.
So far they have provided me with opportunities to deliver training and coaching to businesses around mental fitness and well-being. The plans they have for the future are impressive with a range of supports for businesses. With a range of fifty50 partners, I believe they have something or someone to meet the needs of any business in respect of well-being. And if not it is worth an ask as they are adaptable to the needs of the business making bespoke support packages. ๐
As you may be able to tell I am proud to be part of fifty50 but I am also impressed by the increase in businesses looking at the mental fitness or well-being of their employees. There is still a long way to go but small steps count. Looking after your employees is looking after your business! ๐ค
I am excited about what this brings for me and builds on my knowledge and experience which can only help those I personally work with.
As 2024 continues I am looking forward to it and what the future holds! ๐

Are you mindful or mind full? ๐ค
Isn't it strange how a break can make something different? How it can make something mean something else? How it can make you stop and think? How it can make you consider something in a different way? โโโโโโ
Such a simple thing of a break or a pause or space can change the context, the meaning, the situation!
So take a break, take a moment out, take a pause. It may just give you a different view ๐

3 Good Things?
Do you ever notice the good things in your life? The things which make you smile or laugh or feel good. The things you have manged big or small? ๐ค
Quite often we only focus on the negatives and ignore the positives. Now I am not saying you ignore the negatives or focusing on the positives will save you but.....
Sometimes noticing the positives does help. We are programmed to notice the negatives as it can keep us safe but sometimes it is all we notice. ๐ง
Just try for a week noticing the good things or things that made you smile or laugh. This can be getting up when you have struggled to do so. You managed to put the washing in or tidy that space in the living room. You managed to go for a walk or read a book. Or you laughed out loud! ๐
It may seem hard to begin with but stick with it and yes it does take practice, but do not give up.

Sometimes we just simply need to take time out to smell the roses!
Or we can smell the sea, the flowers, the meadows, the new perfume, the bbq, or anything! Just take a moment to stop and smell, really notice what is around you, A few minutes a day may just aid you to be present rather than thinking of a million other things.
So just do it, even if it is the coffee in your hand! โ

It has been a while but life has been busy with ups an downs. Because that is life!
When it has been down I have looked at the why, sometimes accepted it or changed it.
When it has been up again I have looked at the why? As it can help me in the future.
But through all of this I have been learning more and more about myself and what works for me ๐
I may take a day out, I may step back from things, I may say no or throw myself into something old or new. But most of all I am still getting to know myself and love myself ๐
Get to know and love yourself and just be that little kinder ๐

Sometimes we just need to listen to our inner child ๐
Yes there is a serious side to this but for today just listen to the fun!!!
We can take life so serious that we forget what makes us smile and laugh ๐
We forget how to live in the moment and just be curious with no worries or concerns.
When was the last time you forgot about things โ
When was the last time you just laughed so hard your face ached โ
When was the last time you looked at something and was amazed by it โ
When did you last feel free to be and do anything you wanted with no cares and worries โ
Sometimes we only get these feelings when we go on holiday, but why not make some time during the day or week to be a child again?
Before we know it life can pass us by, so do not wait! Be a child for a minute, an hour, a day, a week or whatever but just have fun!!!!!
