Another positive Day of football for Parkway Youth U12’s as they walk away as the Bowl winners in the Ivybridge 7 a side tournament at Erme Valley. The league fixtures saw us play some strong teams, facing Tamerton Tigers, Parkway Colts and the eventual cup winners, Upton Spartans, to name a few. Parkway held their own and competed in every game, narrowly missing out on a top 4 finish and then being put into the bowl, rather than the cup. There were some great performance’s! Several players playing in different positions, with Berry, Potter, Reed, Swiggs and Byrne all showing their strength and ability to read the game when playing in defence. The midfielders throughout the day of Graham, Easterbrook, Willson, Swiggs and Byrne showed terrific drive and energy to lead the boys forward making game changing passes and tackles. Finally, Willson and Smith always looked a handful up top, both contributing with their goals and assists. The Bowl final saw Parkway take on a strong Plymstock team and deservedly come away as 2-0 winners. Goals coming from a long range effort from Swiggs that lobbed the keeper and crashed in off the bar, before Smith calmly converted a penalty which he won with some quick feet in the box. A great effort from everyone involved but special mention to the 3 make shift Goalkeepers today of Berry, Potter and Reed, that stepped in to do a great job for the team. Up the Parkway!

Moving into U12’s our boys started the new campaign with a well contested 3-2 win in their first friendly, over Activate U12’s. The first third was closely fought with Parkway understandably trying out new formations and looking at players in different roles. They seemed to be on top without really settling and playing the style of passing football that they are capable of playing. Potter, Reed and Berry looking strong at the back and Willson and Smith working hard to shut down the opposition and make their own chances up front. The first third ending 0-0 but with the activate keeper being the busier of the two goalies. The second half saw Parkway change formation and start to play more football with Byrne, Curran and Cummins controlling the midfield with their work rate and link up play, however Activate also grew into the game and started to have more chances. As always, Coombes made some excellent saves until Activate managed to covert two of their chances, and the second third saw Activate take a two goal lead. After an inspired team talk by the managers Parkway came out full of energy in the final third and were closing activate down all over the pitch with Matthews setting the tone with some fantastic tackles. Easterbrook drove the team forward and was causing havoc on the right wing before Parkway deservedly pulled a goal back with a long distance strike from Swiggs. Parkway were well on top now and equalised after some tenacious work by Willson on the left and a clever cut back to Smith who drove the ball home with a first time strike. With Parkway looking dominant now, they continued to drive forward and the winner came courtesy of a fantastic through ball from Berry, which Swiggs raced onto and toe-poked home for his brace and a Parkway victory. A great start to the season. The new signings of Potter(c), Graham and Eaterbrook, all having a positive influence on the game and a great Man of the Match performance from Berry!”

We are truly heartbroken to hear the news of Mike Honeywill passing away. Mike was a manager for our other under 11s team and truly one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet.
