Jiu Jitsu is a Japanese martial art which combines throwing, locking and striking to create a well-rounded form of self-defence. Our club welcomes all levels of experience and many of our members started from scratch and have worked their way up to the belts you see them wearing now. We always have a full warm up at the start which always gets the sweat going. Training typically involves building from the basic movements of a technique into the full application by the end of the session. We are part of The JiuJitsu Foundation, the largest single style in the UK, which has clubs all over the country, and 100's of highly trained black belts! We partake in many events where you will get to train under a variety of instructors, including Cornwall & Devon regional sessions, and our 2 massive national events! All our members are invited to come to the Atemi and Randori nationals where you will train with hundreds of likeminded people, novices and masters alike, learn new skills, and compete in technique and ground fighting competitions. These events are heavily subsidised by the club, and only cost our members £50 this year for transport, hotel bed and breakfast, and competition entry. Last academic year we received the outstanding performance award from the university for our many medals in both national competitions. We also won the best club at our first national event, Atemis. We train twice a week (three times after you have graded) for a total of 4 hours training (7 hours after you have earned a belt!)
We hope you join us at the next session for a fantastic martial arts experience! If you have any questions, message this page, tweet us, or follow the contact info on our UPSU page.
