*27/09/26*
This one has all the ingredients of a classic Sunday League away day: limited numbers, a few sore heads, a debutant striker stealing the show, and plenty of goals. I've cleaned up the grammar, tightened the wording, and kept the humour and match report style intact.

Pilgrim 1 - 10 CMOB

Preparations weren't ideal once again this week, with the Gaffa having limited options at his disposal. Despite that, we were still hopeful of getting a result against a strong Pilgrim side.

There were a few lads getting on the beers before kick-off, but most still made the effort to turn up 🍻
Unfortunately, Liam Hooks wasn't one of them, but thankfully Luke Fletcher was able to step in between the sticks 🧤

The Gaffa made a quick detour through Sherford to pick up Curtis Wood and Lewis Clarke, with both looking a little worse for wear 🤕🤣

We also managed to sign veteran striker James Yates just in time for his debut 💪🏻

Another positive before kick-off was seeing Luke Fletcher finally fit into the goalkeeper kit. A lovely moment for all involved 👀👏

With the personnel available, the Gaffa decided to shake things up tactically. The diamond formation made a return, despite being something we've struggled to get our heads around in the past 💎

The opening exchanges were fairly even, with both sides looking to take control of the game.

It was CMOB who struck first.

A Jake Evans corner wasn't dealt with by the Pilgrim keeper, and the loose ball fell kindly to Joe Borockzy inside the box. Joe put his foot through it and fired us into a 1-0 lead 🚀

Next up was debutant James Yates, who turned his defender with ease and appeared to be through into the box before being chopped down. Somehow, the referee saw nothing wrong and waved play on.

Moments later, Yates was causing problems again. Receiving the ball on the edge of the area, he fake-shot past a couple of defenders before forcing the keeper into an excellent one-on-one save 👏
Yates wouldn't be denied for long.

A loose pass at the back was pounced on by Nick Baldwin, who slipped Yates through on goal. This time, he made no mistake and coolly doubled CMOB's advantage 🥅⚽️

Pilgrim then suffered a blow when their centre-half landed awkwardly on the always-perfect Staddy playing fields. Unfortunately, it looked like a serious knee injury, and he was forced to leave the pitch 🚑
We wish him a speedy recovery.

Pilgrim pulled a goal back shortly afterwards when their left-back whipped a dangerous ball across the face of goal. Porko attempted to head clear, but the ball skimmed off his bald head and fell kindly for a Pilgrim midfielder to tap home past Fletch 🧑‍🦲

Having let leads slip too often recently, we were determined to restore our cushion.

Distance was exactly what we gained when Jake Evans won a free kick on the edge of the box. Jake stepped up and unleashed an unstoppable effort into the back of the net 🤯

The Gaffa then played Nick Baldwin clean through one-on-one with the keeper, but rather than finishing off a lovely move, Nick appeared to opt for a back-pass instead.

Soon after, Yates was at it again. Joe Borockzy slipped him down the side of the defender, and after toying with his marker, Yates expertly curled an effort into the corner to make it four.

CMOB were delighted to head into half-time 4-1 up, having played some excellent football despite the conditions ☔️

Straight after the break, CMOB were back on the front foot and quickly forced a corner.

The resulting delivery found Yates completely unmarked in the box. He didn't even need to jump, as the ball simply cannoned off his head and flew into the top corner 🚀🗑️

CMOB were now playing some lovely football and would soon score the goal of the day.

The move flowed from one side of the pitch to the other, involving seemingly everyone in claret and blue. Eventually, the ball found Yates, who produced a lovely backheel into the path of Nick Baldwin. Nick curled an effort towards goal, the keeper got a weak hand to it, but could only help it into the top corner.

Yates had been a menace all afternoon and turned provider once again shortly after, laying one on a plate for Joe Borockzy to finish 🍽️

By this point, Lewis Clarke had finally woken up from his pitchside nap and entered the action 🍻

Lewis immediately got involved, threading a pass through the Pilgrim defence for Yates, who calmly added another goal to his tally.

With four goals to his name, Yates decided he'd done enough scoring for one afternoon and turned his attention to boosting his assist statistics instead 📈📊

The debutant would go on to provide two more assists for strike partner Joe Borockzy, rounding off a fantastic afternoon for the boys in claret and blue 🩷🩵

Ryan "Porko" Peck once again put in a standout performance at the back and was immense throughout.

However, there was only ever going to be one Man of the Match.

On his debut, James Yates was simply unstoppable. Strong, clinical, skilful, and a constant nightmare for the opposition defence.

Next up, we were back in league action against a Horrabridge side who have been a thorn in our side in recent meetings.

CMOB 0 - 3 Horrabridge

The Gaffa once again found himself struggling for numbers but, after a week of grafting on the 📱, was able to name a 12-man squad 🙏🏻

CMOB started the game heading down the Yealmpton slope and immediately took control of proceedings ⛰️

The first big chance came when the Gaffa dinked a pass over the top to Jake Evans, who found himself one-on-one with the keeper. Jake did everything right, slotting the ball past him, but on this occasion the keeper could not be beaten ❌

Sean Esson then tried his luck from distance, only to see one of the new balls sail high into the neighbouring housing estate 🏡⚽️

Lewis Clarke got himself in behind the full-back and drove into the box, but his cutback to Joe Borockzy couldn't be converted.

Horrabridge looked dangerous on the counter-attack and, at one stage, their pacey winger found himself through on goal. This time, it was big Steve Wills' turn to shine, pulling off a superb save down to his right-hand side 🔥
There's still life in the old dog yet 👴🏻🐶

Joe Borockzy then had a host of opportunities to put CMOB in front, but the Horrabridge keeper was in inspired form and denied us time and time again 🧤

It felt like CMOB had around 20 chances to take the lead, but either the keeper produced another save or we failed to hit the target.

Despite a wasteful first half, we remained hopeful of finally finding the breakthrough in the second 45 minutes.

Unfortunately, that wasn't how the story unfolded.

Instead, it was Horrabridge who opened the scoring. A ball was delivered into our box from a wide area, the initial header was won by a Horrabridge attacker, and their giant striker was on hand to head home from close range.

Horrabridge once again showed how clinical they can be in front of goal and punished us with a second goal on the counter-attack 😫

The Gaffa then came close to dragging CMOB back into the game. After cutting inside his man in the box, he opted for power, smashing an effort towards goal, but once again the keeper produced yet another excellent save ❌

By now, CMOB had lost around five balls into the surrounding shrubbery, and it was starting to feel like we could have played all day without finding a way past the Horrabridge goalkeeper.

Towards the end of the game, Horrabridge put the result beyond doubt when they once again got in behind our defence and finished smartly past Willsy to make it three.

0-3 on the day and a hugely disappointing result. It felt like one of those games where nothing would go our way despite creating more than enough chances.

There wasn't much to write home about in terms of individual performances, but Ryan "Porko" Peck was an absolute rock at centre-back 🪨

Porko certainly didn't deserve to be on the losing side and takes home the Man of the Match award 🥇

We were in cup action this week against a team we’ve faced more than any other in recent years 🏆

CMOB 2 – 2 South Brent (3–4 Pens)

The Gaffa had a few late additions after a couple of players pulled out last minute 😳
The ever‑dependable Joe Chivers stepped in at CB once again, Sam Russell made himself available despite a troublesome injury, and Krissy Young also added himself into the mix late in the day 🦸‍♂️

It was a good job they did, because Kian Berry had once again slept in and turned up after kick‑off 🛌😴

CMOB started well, but as always, South Brent were dangerous on the counter.
Nick Baldwin broke in behind early, went 1v1, struck the ball well, but the keeper made a strong save down to his right.

Jack Lethbridge whipped in a dangerous corner following Nick’s effort, finding Joe Borockzy in the box.
Joe made no mistake and put us 1–0 up.

Joe Chivers’ boot lace came off worse for wear after a meaty tackle, forcing him off momentarily for repairs 🔨🔧

We created a few more chances in the first half but couldn’t extend our lead.

At HT, the Gaffa made changes — bringing on Kian out wide and Sam Russell into the engine room 🏃‍♂️💨

Kian was straight into the action, flying down the right wing, but just couldn’t find the killer pass 🔥
Sam made an instant impact too, threading an expertly weighted through ball to Borockzy, who calmly rounded the helpless keeper and slotted home with ease 🆒

South Brent, as ever, were never done. Their persistence paid off when their wide player battled hard down the right. His cross took a huge deflection off Curky, looped high, and ended up lobbing Callum Treleaven in goal🥲

Momentum swung their way, and they looked the more likely to score next.
Soon after, Joe Chivers was deemed to have fouled the striker in the box, and the ref pointed to the spot.

Callum saved the resulting penalty brilliantly, but the South Brent player reacted quickest and bundled the rebound into the net ⚽️🥅

Joe Chivers was then forced off when his calf popped while chasing back their winger 🚑

CMOB continued to be wasteful in front of goal and couldn’t edge ahead again.
The game inevitably headed to a dreaded penalty shootout 😫

We were up against it immediately when Jack Lethbridge’s first penalty cannoned back off the post.
To be fair to South Brent, they took some excellent penalties and deservedly won the shootout 👏

At 2–0 up, this was a game we should have controlled and seen out.
But South Brent are never beaten — they wanted it more in the end and earned their place in the next round.

Dave “Trigger” Wrench takes home Man of the Match, solid at the heart of our defence.
Despite struggling with a slight calf injury, Trigger did everything right and was unlucky to be on the losing side 🥇

We were looking to bounce back after a disappointing result against Devon Athletic the week before.
This week we faced familiar opposition in the form of Seymour Arms at Yealmpton 🏡

CMOB 6 – 1 Seymour

The Gaffa was pleasantly surprised to have a fairly competitive squad for once this season.
Adam Smietanka made his first appearance of the campaign, Jack Dixon continued in goal, and Cayleb Needham wore the captain’s armband once again 🦸‍♂️

It didn’t take long for CMOB to get going — and Jake Evans was in unstoppable form.
Jake bagged himself a hat‑trick within the first 30 minutes, taking all of his goals brilliantly 🔥

Joe Borockzy was not quite as clinical when he saw his penalty hit both posts and bounce back into play 😫

Alex Lecointe looked really sharp, covering the pitch well, getting stuck in, and showing real quality on the ball 🔋

CMOB were in complete control and marched into half‑time with a three‑goal advantage 💪🏻

Just ten minutes into the second half, the boys were dealt a huge blow when new fan favourite Alex Lecointe suffered a ruptured Achilles and was forced off 🚑
Everyone wishes Alex a speedy recovery and hopes to see him back soon 😘🩷🩵

We would however extend our lead further when El Capitan Cayleb Needham smashed the ball home 🦸‍♂️
Lewis Clarke took over from Alex’s first‑half running and covered every blade of grass with tenacity 🏃‍♂️💨

By now, Joe Borockzy had found his shooting boots and fired a powerful strike past the helpless Seymour keeper 🥾🥾

Finally, Jake Evans added yet another goal to his tally, rounding off a superb individual display 👏

Seymour never gave up and managed to sn**ch a clean sheet away from Dicko late on.

The game finished 6–1 — a convincing win for all in claret and blue 🩷🩵

There were so many strong performances, but you can’t score four goals and not take home the Man of the Match award.
Congratulations to Jake Evans 🥇

This week was our second league fixture against a Devon Athletic side whose first game of the season was abandoned early on.
We knew we were in for a battle with lots of players missing 😫

Devon Athletic 4 – 1 CMOB

The Gaffa took his place on the sidelines this week as he continued to serve his suspension.
He once again had to delve deep into the contact list to ensure we had enough players for the fixture.

Curtis ‘Curky’ Wood made his return for the club, Lewis Clarke, Lewis Treleaven and Carlton Farnham made their debuts, and Sean Esson could only make the second half, taking his place on the bench.
GK Steve Wills made his first appearance of the season — as a target man up top 🧤

The game started very scrappy for both sides. The ever‑present Jennycliff winds were wreaking havoc as usual, and the pitch was full of bobbles to contend with 🌬️🌬️
Devon Athletic began full of energy, but not much was breaking through our defence.

CMOB eventually started to play some football in difficult conditions and caused the opposition problems.
Steve Wills showed some trickery as he flip‑flapped between two men, but the passage of play ended with the ball drifting wide of the goal.

Lewis Clarke got the ball out of his feet from distance and let fly with an effort that sailed just wide of the post.
Lewis Kittle, helping out at LB, was having a great game, he was first to every ball and aggressive in his defending 👏

We took the lead after working the ball well from left to right. Clarke was involved again, turning on the edge of the box before sliding a neat pass into Lee Britchford.
After supplying Mousehole with a new ball last week, Britchford ensured this effort stayed on the floor and expertly converted into the side of the net ⚽️🥅

Steve Wills then, of course, head‑locked one of the Devon players …. because he’s hard and simply can’t help himself 👀💪🏻

It looked like we were going to see out the first half in the lead, but we conceded with the last kick of the half.
A Devon free kick was sent into our box, the ball wasn’t headed away, and the striker finished with ease 😫

The second half began scrappy again, with both teams struggling to play any football.
Carlton Farnham and Sean Esson entered the field hoping to turn the game in our favour.

Carlton went straight into the action and was chopped down when through on goal, but the ref waved play on 🤷🏻‍♂️
He went close again soon after when his volleyed effort was love‑puffed towards goal … shot power at zero and the keeper gobbled it up easily 👀

Jake Evans had clearly been watching Lee Britchford, sending his free kick straight into the sea 🌊⚽️

Devon were always in the game and looked dangerous on the counter.
They hit us with a sucker punch when Sean Esson was dispossessed, and the winger calmly slotted past Callum Treleaven 😳

Devon Athletic were then awarded a penalty when Jordan Dunn went shoulder‑to‑shoulder with the striker.
The penalty was dispatched well.

CMOB were again their own worst enemy when yet another mistake allowed the winger through on goal, and he finished well to put the game beyond reach.

The full‑time whistle went, and we walked away with nothing after a very disappointing showing.
Man of the Match goes to Lee Britchford, who defended well, pinged some decent corners, and took his goal brilliantly 🥇

It was the first league game of the season, and we went into it with just one pre‑season match under our belt.
We faced a difficult Princetown side who caused us problems last season 🏆

Princetown 0 - 3 CMOB

The Gaffa is currently serving a four‑match ban and was away this weekend anyway, meaning Joe Borockzy would take up the Player‑Manager role.
The first game of the season was a difficult one to attract players for, and we ended up with just one substitute on the day.

Kian Berry struggled to get himself out of bed on time and turned up late as usual 😴💤🛌
The usual suspects also found it difficult to locate the pitch, despite one of the lads helpfully dropping a pin in the group chat 😂

Jack Dixon and Alex Lecointe made their long‑awaited debuts 😬

The first ten minutes were a bit ropey, and it took us a while to get to grips with Princetown’s long balls. Once we settled, we looked much more solid.

Alex Lecointe was forced off after 20 minutes following a knock to his knee 🚑

Dicko started well in goal, spraying a delightful ball over the Princetown defence for Kian Berry to run onto. Kian’s effort was saved by the keeper but forced a corner 🧤

Jake Evans’ corner found Joe Chivers, who rose highest and powered a header into the net 👱‍♂️⚽️🥅
We extended our lead when Joe Chivers supplied Kian Berry, who made no mistake and slotted home.

Dave “Trigger” Wrench was excellent defensively, though a few of his passes went wayward — and Cayleb Needham made sure he knew about it 🤬

Lee Britchford took the opportunity to supply Mousehole FC with a new match ball when his free kick missed the target by miles 👀

We went into half‑time in complete control 👏

The boys started the second half well, playing some good football throughout.
Cayleb Needham put in a great performance across multiple positions and was also lucky enough to wear the captain’s armband on the day🦸‍♂️

Alex Lecointe returned in the second half, put himself about, and showed real quality on the ball.

Joe Borockzy was up to his old tricks when a square ball across goal bobbled over his foot on the goal line 🥲

He did, however, get himself on the scoresheet late on when Kian Berry played a pass in behind. Joe ran through 1v1 and coolly finished into the corner 🧊

A great start to the season with three points on the board in what could have been a tricky fixture.
Plenty of positives, but Man of the Match goes to Cayleb Needham, who excelled in CAM, CM, and later CB.
Gobby as ever, but absolutely our standout player 🥇

It was a big day for the club as we faced a very young and energetic Queen & Con 2nds team in the Cup Final at Coach Road 🏆

CMOB 2 - 2 Q&C 2nds
(Penalties 11 - 10)

Q&C were very keen on the day, arriving by coach at the ground early with their winners banner and ch*****ne 🚎 👀
CMOB would travel up separately by car and look to get their heads into the big game.
Jordan Dunn’s dad was ecstatic to see some of supporters for once with a good turn out from our friends and family 🩷🩵
Despite the Gaffa’s message to not be late, this is Sunday league, so of course the usual offenders did the exact opposite with Sean Esson, Callum Treleaven & Kian Berry strolling in just in time for the warm up 🕰️
After our warm up on the day, pure nostalgia would follow with the OG Gaffa, Mark Lethbridge and Phil ‘Pepper Head’ James attending 🧑‍🦲
The OG Gaffa’s would take up their space as part of the management team and deliver an unreal team talk before the game 😮‍💨
I think the lads were transported back in time in this moment and instantly up for the fight 🤛
Lee Dare and Jake Evans would return from troublesome injuries, Lewis Kittle would be deployed at fullback and Sam Russell would bolster our midfield area 💪🏻
Dave Smith would unfortunately rule himself out of the game with a bad back, he would though take up his role as manager in the dugout 👴🏻
The game itself would start at pace with Q&C showing their attacking intentions early.
They would take a hold of the game early and dictate really well 😳
The Q&C winger was very tricky, he’d beat Lee Dare, get a ball into our box but the striker would fire the ball just wide.
CMOB would do a fair bit of running in the opening exchanges but waste the ball on most occasions 😫
Kian Berry was a real bright spark for us however with plenty of snakey runs at the Q&C defence 🐍
It was the Q&C winger who would make his mark on the game first when he went down in the box, the referee would initially book him for diving but the Lino would end up overruling KO him and a penalty was awarded 🟨 ❌
The striker would step up, make no mistake and convert from the spot.
The attacks from Q&C would keep on coming but CMOB would remain in the game and resilient as ever.
At one point the Q&C striker had got in behind the CMOB defence, he was sprinting towards goal, Sean Esson would do what he does best though, he’d get himself back in and make a fantastic last ditch tackle 👏
The HT whistle would blow at 0-1 with CMOB struggling to make an impact on the game in all honesty.
The Gaffa would make some changes at the break, bringing Cayleb Needham on up front and Fraser Ferris on for the injured Lee Dare 🚑
In the second half CMOB would start really well and really start to impose themselves on the game now.
We were rewarded for our efforts shortly after HT when we were awarded a penalty ourselves, this time following a high foot on the Gaffa.
Jake Evans would of course calmly slot the ball home and draw us level in the game 😬
Kian Berry would continue to be an absolute menace for us and terrorise the Q&C defence 🔥
Q&C were now in far less control but were still very much dangerous in attack.
The Q&C striker would be busy but would waste a number of chances in and around the box.
Jake Evans was the next player to depart the game with another injury and was replaced by Nick Baldwin 🚑
Nick would jump straight into the action with his constant running but would oddly find himself as a target for the rowdy Q&C supporters in the stands 🤔
Shouts would ring out from the back row of the stands, calling out our bald players and saying that our No 12 is s*it 😂
Soon after Q&C would regain the lead when their CM found himself on the right hand side, he would ping a delightful cross into the box and the Q&C striker would divert the ball into our net 🥅
The Devon Cup trophy was almost in Q&C’s hands moments later again when their player let go of an unbelievable strike from distance.
Luckily for us the ball would hit the crossbar, bounce agonisingly close to the line and back out again 🤯
Cayleb Needham was left flabbergasted when Kian Berry’s driving run didn’t end with him slotting him in on goal.
Nick Baldwin would turn into Messi for a second, prance around three Q&C players before tripping over his own laces 😂
With the clock ticking CMOB would win themselves a series of corners at the death.
The first would be expertly defended by Q&C, clearing a goal bound effort off the line.
The following corner however would be lofted into the box again by the ever dependable Jack Lethbridge, the ball would go close to the keeper, Trigger would jump for the ball but miss, the keeper would then end up spilling it and the Gaffa would be on hand to bundle the ball in off the defender 🙏🏻👀👏
With minutes to play the boys would see the game into a dreaded penalty shootout 😕
What would follow would blow the minds of everyone at the ground.
There were some brilliant penalties on display with Lee Britchford’s being the pick of the bunch 😍 🗑️
The Gaffa would of course involve himself in the drama and end up getting sent off for dedicating his pen to an abusive Q&C fan 😫🍓
Callum Treleaven would be the hero on the day, fly across his goal to push the ball away with both hands and win us the Devon Cup against the odds🏆🎉
This was a momentous achievement for CMOB with this being only our second season back together.
We had not won a trophy in 16 years and it was such a good day for all involved.
MoM goes to Kian Berry who was an ever present threat on the day and unlucky not to get on the scoresheet himself 🥇

It was the final league game of the season for us and we faced a resilient Princetown side at Legends Park.

Princetown 1 - 4 CMOB

Preparation wasn’t great for this fixture with a large amount of the lads turning up very late to the game ⏰
Lee Dare was running things with the Gaffa away for the weekend and still serving his suspension 🍓
Lee would take no rubbish from the players and bench some of the late offenders 😂
Matt Galloway would be between the sticks for the second week running 🧤
Kian Berry & Sam Russell would return to the squad in the hope of securing the 3 points for us.
Joe Borockzy was in fine form and would run the Princetown defence ragged.
Joe Borockzy would take away a brace on the day and be unlucky not to take away the MoM award.
Kian Berry would grab yet another goal for himself this season and again cause the full back all sorts of problems 🔥
The goal of the day though came from Jordan Dunn who unleashed an absolute rocket into the top bins to secure the game for us 🚀 🗑️
The MoM award also goes to Jordan Dunn who was unbelievable on the day, completely solid in defence and brilliant going forward 🥇
