Hooe Rovers Football Club

After a difficult few weeks for the Rovers, we have bounced back today with a 3-2 win over Plymouth Phoenix 💙

We took the lead when Matt Harris pressed the defender and won the ball back, allowing Dan Jones to fizz a ball across the box with Herbie Bell there to smartly finish👌🏼

A 2nd followed when Matt Harris clipped a lovely ball over the top which fell at the feet of Ben Rhodes who buried it bottom corner with his left foot👏🏼

A phoenix red card came soon after due to a nasty challenge. Despite this, phoenix pulled 2 back to draw level before half time thanks to a fantastic volley OG from the ‘retired’ rovers legend Matt Wood and a goal from a set piece. 2-2 HT😬

A cagey 2nd half but a lot better football was played after the restart and we always looked like the team to go on and win. Super sub Jamie D***s scored the winner with a clinical finish into the bottom corner from a Dan Jones cross that somehow found its way to Jamie ⚽️

With the clock ticking towards 90 minutes, MOB produced a sensational save down to his left! What a stop to keep Rovers in the lead! 🧤🔥

3-2 FT!

A much better showing from the lads today and we now look forward to our Devon Cup first round fixture against Q&C 1sts next week

MOTM: Matt Obrien - some unbelievable saves today from MOB the cat😮‍💨 kept us in it mate👏🏼

Donkey: Matt Harris - late, hanging, missed sitter were all reasons for donkey today, unlucky mate but good work throughout the game 💪🏼

Rovers were back in league action today against Q&C 2nds. An unfortunate 4-3 loss for the lads. Goals scored by Luke Lawson, assisted by Tom Hunt, Dan Jones assisted by Ben Rhodes and Jay Helm assisted by Herbie Bell. We go again next week where we will try and turn things around when we face Plymouth Phoenix 💙

Rovers brutally exit the Ken Rickard cup in the first round due to a penalty shootout loss against Inter City Plymouth.

Two goals from Ash, one from Mitch and one from Jones ensured we were 4-3 up but rovers conceded a last minute penalty which was converted to force a penalty shootout.

Very disappointing that the game went to pens anyway but we’ve got no one else to blame other than ourselves. A rough couple of weeks for the rovers but all we can do now is look forward and bounce back emphatically which I’m sure we’ll do💪🏼

Catch us at the fortress next week against Q&C 2nds in the league 💙

After a week off last week, Rovers were back in league action today taking on last season’s Devon Cup winners, Harbertonford in a thrilling encounter at The Fortress.

Ford were bit of a bogey team for Rovers last year where we failed to get the win in any of our encounters against them in our double winning season 😬 so the lads were proper keen to change that on the first time of asking against them this season.

Rovers took the lead half way through the first half courtesy of goal machine Ash O’Neill 😮‍💨 assisted nicely by Dan Jones who skinned a ford defender, held off another and laid off to Tash👍🏼

Ford equalised not too long after with a nice goal from distance.

Rovers went back ahead near the end of the first half thanks to a composed penalty from Dan Jones, sending the keeper the wrong way👏🏼 first goal scorer Ash won the penalty and returned the favour for Jones who provided him with the 1st goal.

Plenty of changes in the 2nd half, freshening up and ensuring we could stay disciplined and keep it tight ❌ the lads really dug in but never really looked like conceding anyway. Highlight of the 2nd half was Dan Jones picking the ball up from his own half, running the entire length but not shooting, missing a sitter. Believe it or not but the Ford Lino put his flag up even when Jones was in his own half 🥴

Full Time: Hooe Rovers 2 Harbertonford 1 💙

Man of the match: Tom Hunt - dominant performance in the centre of the park, spraying passes everywhere and showing his composure on the ball at all times💪🏼

Donkey: Aaron Hicks - sinbin from Hicks grants him the award this week. Given for his mouth to the ref after a foul was given, Hicks put a rovers in a sticky position having to play with 10 men for 10 mins👀 however we can all understand his frustration as it was never a foul!

2 wins from 2 in the league for rovers💙 next up, Billacombe!
