Hooe Rovers Football Club

Our 2026/2027 P&D Sunday Premier Division title defence got underway today against Porto Plymouth Football Club, with the rovers running rampant in a 10-1 thrashing😮‍💨

Rovers started well and looked to take an immediate lead but an open goal miss and hitting the woodwork twice ensured the score stayed at 0-0🙄 we were confident however that when the first goal went in, several more would follow. Lots of goals to report on today so apologies to those involved if not all completely correct 🤣

First goal was scored by Danny Jones who calmly took the ball around the onrushing keeper and knocked it home after a typical Ben Rhodes over the top through ball set Jonesy up wonderfully 🫡

First goal scorer Jonesy turned provider for the 2nd, squaring the ball nicely into Ash O’Neill feet who tapped in with ease👏🏼

Jonesy picked up his 2nd of the game with our 3rd goal, demonstrating great composure to keep his shot down which nestled into the bottom corner after a nice drilled assist by Mitchell Williams 👍🏼

Provider Ben Rhodes got on the scoresheet for our 4th goal after a nice assist from Tom Hunt👌🏼

Our 5th goal was scored by Jonesy to secure his hatrick, burying a penalty into the bottom corner. Penalty was fantastically won by Luke Lawson who drove at the defender and tempted a foul💪🏼

Provider Tom Hunt also got on the scoresheet with our 6th goal of the game, beautifully placing the ball top bins after a nice cut back from Brogan Holmes 🔥

Ash got himself another goal after super Rodney Bell whipped in a great ball where Ash was able to demonstrate his clinical nature and get another across the line 🙌🏼

8th goal came courtesy of Luke Lawson, rewarded for his tireless running in behind all game with a nicely taken goal. Alfie Reilly launched one of his usual insanely accurate long balls which laws latched onto and knocked past the keeper 🤝

Herbie Bell got the 9th of the game, finishing emphatically with a great header leaving the keeper no chance. Holmesy whipped in an inch perfect cross for Herb to get on the end of🥶

Our 10th and final goal was scored again by Herb, finishing off a bit of a goal mouth scramble with Brogan Holmes demonstrating his unselfish behaviour not to get in the way of Herb’s shot or to tap it in himself🤣

Man of the Match: Danny Jones ⭐️ a first half hatrick and an assist as well, electric performance from Jones which really kickstarted the rest of the team performance 👏🏼

Donkey: Ash O’Neill 🫏 2 open goals missed today for Ash😳 it looked harder to miss!! We will blame the infamous Jenny bobble, especially with the pitch being as hard as it is👀 didn’t stop him scoring 2 on the day anyway!

Overall, a fantastic first game of the season. No game for us next week but we are back in action at the fortress once again when we host Harbertonford on September 6th💙

After a busy pre-season, it’s finally time to get the league season underway!

We kick things off tomorrow morning at Jennycliff as we take on Porto Plymouth.

The lads are ready to get going and hopefully we can start the season with a strong performance 👊

Match Day 1️⃣

Away to reigning league and cup champions Hooe Rovers Football Club let’s see what this new squad can achieve we couldn’t have asked for a tougher start to the season 💙🩷

Everyone at Hooe Rovers Football Club is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ash White.

We had the privilege of sharing the pitch with Ash on a number of occasions, and he was always a hugely competitive player who brought plenty of passion and character to the game.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with everyone close to Ash at this incredibly difficult time.

Rest in peace, Ash. 💙⚽

We faced The Billacombe FC 1sts today in another pre-season friendly, coming away with a convincing 5–1 victory.

Goals from Ash x3, Danny and Rodney ⚽️

Another valuable run-out and, more importantly, more minutes in the legs for the lads, as we build to the season opener against Porto Plymouth Football Club next weekend.

Plenty of positives to take from another good team performance. 💙

We take the positives and there were many despite the score line, nice to get some new faces on the pitch and players back from injury.
Hopefully next game the manager can have a full bench in our last preseason game before the season starts.

Hooe Rovers 2 Plymouth Phoenix 1 ⚽️

The rovers secure our 3rd trophy in as many months as we ran out 2-1 winners in a fiercely competitive encounter with a strong phoenix side last night 👏🏼

After starting a bit on the back foot and soaking up some early pressure, the lads grew into the game and started to make some good chances of our own. We were knocking on the door but couldn’t put the chances away. New signing Mitch Williams almost grabbed himself a great goal after working hard to win the ball off a phoenix defender and unleash a powerful strike which was smartly saved. It remained 0-0 for the majority of the first half which was a fair reflection of both sides pushing on but not being able to find the back of the net. Big shout out to another new signing Owen Hicks for some miraculous goal line clearances and last ditch tackles to keep phoenix out, as well as a few others really putting their body on the line ❌

Rovers got the first goal of the game late on in the first half when Ash O’Neill cleverly pinched the ball from the phoenix keeper who took a bit too long on the ball. The ball ended up falling to Luke Lawson who ignored cries from the sideline to shoot and instead laid it off with composure to goal machine Ash O’Neill to reward him for his hard work in the press and he finished nicely 👌🏼1-0 HT

Just the 3 on the bench for Rovers but no changes at half time, more of the same was the message given to the lads on the pitch. Everyone continued to battle for every ball and the game became more cagey. All 3 subs were soon used as we looked to freshen it up and ensure we had the legs to see the game out. New signing Alfie Reilly got himself a fantastic assist to cap off an outstanding effort when coming on which was buried once again by goal machine Ash O’Neill, 2-0🤞🏻Another new signing Kyle Sword came on at left back and really helped tighten up the defence when phoenix were throwing everything at us!

Phoenix made things interesting in the last few minutes as they pulled one back from a corner. A shame for the defence especially as they really deserved the clean sheet after defending so well all game😤 A tense last few mins followed and phoenix thought they got the equaliser but the ball had clearly gone out of play before it was knocked back and poked in. 2-1 FT🤝

Lots of people in attendance watching a great game and I’m sure we will have many more against phoenix this season.
