Pocklington Runners

Pocklington Runners Welcome to Pocklington Runners

We are a friendly but competitive club in East Yorkshire It's a great way to get fit, healthy and meet like-minded people.

We are a friendly community of runners from Pocklington and surrounding villages. In fact, many of our members are from Market Weighton, Holme-on-Spalding-Moor and other surrounding areas. We meet every Wednesday at 6.30pm at Pocklington Rugby Club for a social run, with a variety of distances to suit all runners. We are always happy to welcome new members to join us on some of the breathtakingly

beautiful social runs that we are lucky to be able to enjoy in our area. Whether you are a novice or more experienced runner looking to improve or just looking to enjoy running with others, Pocklington Runners welcome you to come along and give it a try! You have the option of running in many of the national race events, but this absolutely optional. You may decide that you are happy to just join us on our Wednesday runs and make some new running friends. If you are interested in coming along, just send us a message and we will make sure a friendly face is on-hand to meet you at the club.

The holidays are just about over but some of our members are ending the summer on a high with some fantastic holiday highlights home and abroad - and it's not always all about running; getting out there in the UK and overseas countryside is what we are all about too!

Last week saw our final summer away run of the season at Tibthorpe - what a fantastic turnout it was in some beautiful countryside!

A little further afield Adam Smith and Dan Kidd hiked the Coast to Coast in 8 days; fantastic achievement!
➡️ 181.25 miles
⬆️ 24.010 ft elevation
🚶🏻‍♂️63 hours of moving time & 364,868 steps

Overseas saw us represented by ...
🇭🇺 Rachel and Paddy Dare in the Budapest half marathon
🇯🇪 Jane Wilcock in her first ever half road marathon at the Jersey Hearty Half
🇸🇪 Liz and John Albaya at the Malmo Parkrun in Sweden; and
🇦🇺 Ellie Eastwood running her ✨250th✨ Parkrun in Australia at the Glass House Mountains parkrun alongside husband Paul and son Dan.

Closer to home we had a lot of park run / 5km /10km activities from the Pockers at Parkrun at the lovely Humber Bridge course .... to Ellise Sanchez-Ewbank running a lovely 5km around Flamingo Land (a Runthrough organised event might I add!).

We were represented by Kaye Marie at the Wetherby 10k; and by Richard Ginn at Tholthorpe 10k - taking 8th place overall and 1st in his age category.

Another week of fantastic running, walking and general camaraderie and support across our members.

👀Watch out for this week's runs being posted tomorrow - and later on this week a little something to wet your appetite for mud, glorious mud (cross country season is nearly upon us!). 👀

We hope you’ve been enjoying your summer, and whilst we're not wishing it away, the best thing about September is it’s approaching fast.

I'm referring of course to the return of our 🏃 Junior sessions 🏃 which resume at 6pm on Monday 14 September.

They run during term times for 12 to 17 year olds from the Burnby Lane Rugby Club and last for one hour.

We alternate between an interval type session to develop speed and a run of around 5k to develop endurance. Both sessions are fun and inclusive for all abilities and no one is left behind.

Please be assured, all our volunteer coaches and run leaders have completed training provided by UK Athletics and hold DBS certificates - renewed every three years.

We love to see new faces and if you'd be interested to know more or if you'd like your Junior to come and join us on 14 September, please reach out to us by e mail on [email protected]

Or visit our website to find out more about our club.

While Ethiopian's 🇪🇹 Yomif Kojelcha was breaking the half marathon World record in a very speedy 56 minutes and 51 seconds - our own Pocklington Runners were breaking records of their own this weekend!

Sunday saw the inaugural 🇬🇧 East Yorkshire 🇬🇧 Beverley Half Marathon run by RunThrough with several Pockers completing it… making history with their own Personal Best 🥇records!!

And why wouldn’t you enter (if half marathon is your distance); it’s almost just on the doorstep and winds through the East Yorkshire countryside on closed roads, while also taking in the Beverley Westwood (known for the cows 🐄), starting and finishing in the famous Beverley Saturday market. Well done to everyone who ran and also those that kindly went and supported 👏

And the feedback from the runners is it was a lovely course - if a bit hillier for some than anticipated, but our captain Wes recommends it for next year - having stormed home with a shiny course PB ✨and very shiny half marathon time PB ✨✨!

We are hoping for a few more Pocklington entries next year.

Could you be one of them?!🤔

We are so lucky to have the option of flat, hilly, road, trail, canal and woodland routes around us here in Pocklington - and our Wednesday evening routes this week take in a bit of everything with varying distances and paces. We are just compiling the routes, so check back tomorrow - and if one stands out to you, drop us a DM or comment below and we'll make sure you receive a warm Pockers welcome!

Did you know? We have Monday & Wednesday Club sessions!

Our lesser known Monday Miles are available for everyone to come along and try too!

Monday Miles are usually split into two sessions. This week we had the following on offer:

🚀 Monday Miles speed session; this doesn't mean you have to be fast - it's all about building some speed into your miles. It's usually in town on routes where speed and recovery circuits are built into the run. Nobody gets left behind. Routes change each week.

🏔 Monday Miles Millington hills - affectionately known by some as Hillington or Milo Hills! Again, you don't have to be fast - it's about adding hills into your weekly miles. Nobody gets left behind.

If you can only make a Monday, or a Wednesday or both - your membership covers all these guided sessions!

Why not come along and meet us at a Monday Miles session? DM or comment below so we know you're joining us and we'll tell you where to meet us. We're a very happy friendly bunch!!

Club Night - Wednesday 19th August 🏃‍♀️ and 🚶‍♀️

Thinking of joining us this week?

We have a great variety of options available! With thanks to our run leaders 👏 .

⭐️ Adie will be leading our 3 mile walking group

⭐️ Alan will be heading out down The Mile to Franks Loop in total about 5 miles. Alan will be jeffing the route based on 4min run to 1min walk, so the average pace will be about 12 - 13 minute miles.

⭐️ Carol is heading out to Allerthorpe and back which is around 4 miles and she will be running at a pace of 10-10:30 minute miles.

⭐️ Marcus is offering a mixed terrain run across the golf course, up to birds corner across to the Warter road, down the hill, back around the buddist centre and across the golf course. This will be roughly 6:5 miles at 9:30ish minute miles.

⭐️ Emily will be leading another road run around Yapham Road, Keldspring and back in on Barmby Road which is 4.5 miles and will be run at around 9-9:30 min miles.

⭐️ Sara will do the same route as Emily; the same pace but she will add on the industrial estate and back in via West Green to make it a bit longer.

⭐️ Stuart is doing a more hilly road run going out to Meltonby then up to Givendale and back along the mile giving a 7.5 mile route. The pace for this group will be a speedy 7.15 - 7.30 minute miles.

🏉 We meet at the Rugby Club at 6:30pm, ready to run at 6:45pm.

The past week at Pocklington Runners has seen us watching the Eclipse as part of our Wednesday evening social runs and walks 🌓, and enjoying our annual summer family & friends BBQ 🌭🍔🍦alongside celebrating a few 40th birthdays!🎉

Pocklington Runners love to run and walk - but we also love to socialise!

Back to the running … and walking first!

Our very own Running Cricketer, Richard Williman definitely took the title for furthest afield Parkrun at Oroua River Walkway parkrun in New Zealand 🇳🇿 this weekend. Well done Rich!

Closer to home the race of the weekend was the inaugural 🐻Big Bear Run 10k 🐻 held at Askham Bryan Wildlife & Conservation Park, Askham Bryan College raising funds to support their Asiatic Black Bear friends! Well done to Ant, Sean, Steve (with a shiny new PB), Steven, Andy, Debbie, Kate, Nick and Wendy for conquering this new local route! Same time same place next year was the feedback as everyone thoroughly enjoyed it - including the opportunity to visit the Wildlife Park for free afterwards! One for the calendar for 2027 for sure!

Several Pockers were at Heslington Parkrun on Saturday morning with Kathy Hayes-Taylor park walk volunteering - well done Kathy!

Aside from running and walking many of our members cycle 🚴, swim 🏊‍♂️and do other sports ; often meeting up outside of club planned events to take part in other activities together - for fun and also competitively.

We are all about the running, walking - and SO much more!

If you want to find out more come along to our club social run session this Wednesday - 6.30 meet at the Rugby Club for 6.45 set off. Run routes will be posted tomorrow so keep a look 👀out for them on this page!
