Diving HMS Falmouth – Saturday
Saturday's club dive took us to the wreck of HMS Falmouth, one of the North Sea's most impressive World War One wrecks. Conditions were kind, with good visibility and manageable seas, making for an enjoyable day on the water.
The wreck lies broken but still recognisable, with many impressive features remaining. Divers explored sections of the hull, boilers and scattered debris, all now covered in colourful marine life. Large shoals of fish were present throughout the dive, while lobsters and crabs could be found sheltering among the steelwork. The size of the wreck is always striking, reminding us of the ship's wartime history and the power that sank her over a century ago.
As always, careful buoyancy and good buddy awareness were essential, allowing everyone to enjoy the site while helping preserve this historic wreck. With the favourable conditions, most divers were able to make the most of their bottom time before ascending safely with DSMBs.
A huge thank you goes to the skipper (rob) and towing crew (emma) for getting us safely to and from the site, and to everyone who helped make the day run smoothly. It was another fantastic day of diving, good company and plenty of stories shared back on the boat.
We look forward to the next club dive and seeing even more members in the water!
