🗣️ Development Team Match Report

It was fantastic to see our Development Team back in competitive action for their first league fixture of the season.

🔵 First Half

The boys started the game positively, enjoying around 50% possession and creating several good opportunities. Unfortunately, we were unable to capitalise on our chances.

Penygarn & Trevethin then opened the scoring to make it 1–0. Despite going behind, the team continued to work hard and play some good football.

Five minutes later, our opponents added a second goal to make it 2–0. The boys responded well and continued to show plenty of determination and commitment for the remainder of the half.

🔵 Second Half

The team came out for the second half with the same positive attitude and continued to play some excellent football.

produced a quality cross into the box, which Logan Jones converted to get us back into the game at 2–1 ⚽

Around 10 minutes later, Penygarn & Trevethin’s number 9 produced a superb volley to complete his hat-trick and restore their two-goal advantage at 3–1.

As the game progressed, the boys began to tire, but continued to battle right until the final whistle. A late goal from the home side made the final score 4–1.

Although the result wasn’t what we wanted, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance, particularly the quality of football played and the effort shown throughout the 90 minutes.

A well-deserved award for Stuart following an excellent individual performance.

Well done to all the players for their effort and commitment. We’ll take the positives, learn from the game and look forward to the next fixture 🙌🏻

⚽ CUP MATCH: Fairfield United 1 - 4 Pentwynmawr Athletic AFC

FAIRFIELD UNITED BOW OUT OF THE CUP 🥺

Disappointing to go out of the cup yesterday, but fair play to Pentwynmawr — they were the much better side on the day and deserved the win, no arguments from us 💯

We got off to a dream start though! ⚡ Jack Clark put us ahead early with a great finish, perfectly set up by Taylor Price — 1-0 up and we were flying!

But Pentwynmawr responded brilliantly. They were sharper all over the pitch, won the key battles, and took their chances clinically. They turned it around comprehensively and we exit the competition.

🏆 Man of the Match: Ollie South another solid performance in defence 🙌🏻

That opening goal showed exactly what this team is capable of — we just couldn’t sustain it. We’re out of the cup, but we don’t dwell on it.
Heads up, lads — back to league action and we go again💪🔵

Next up for our First Team is Pentwynmawr Athletic AFC in the Gwent County Motors Challenge Cup round on Tuesday evening at the Ravine Ground, 6.15pm KO. We had a terrific turn out last Tuesday, let’s see if we can get that again. Club house will be open before the game for refreshments.

Our Development Team kick start their league with a reversed fixture to Penygarn & Trevethin FC, 6pm KO for the team.

Pontymister 4 - 1 Fairfield United

Tough one today boys — and you could tell the heavy schedule has taken its toll. 8 games in 4 weeks is just too much, and it showed. Legs were heavy, minds were a bit off it, and we just weren’t at the races first half. Mistake after mistake, nowhere near the team we’ve been week in week out.

Pontymister capitalised fully and went in 4-0 up at half time — fair play to them, they took their chances well 👏

🔄 5 changes at half time and what a transformation! We looked like a completely different side. Came out fighting and got one back early — Patrick Taylor finishing cooly, great ball in from Kian Cook ⚽

Second half we were on the front foot, creating plenty, but just couldn’t find that next goal.

All credit to Pontymister — deserved winners on the day. Now we rest, recharge, and get ready for our cup game THIS TUESDAY 💪

Really tough pick today, but Jon came on at half time and was brilliant. Used all his experience to steady the ship, ran tirelessly up and down that left flank, created chance after chance, and won every header and tackle. Top effort, Heals! 🔵⚪
