Handstand entry to a mount the pole is one of my favorite ways to invert
-
You can enter straight away if you want a dynamic edge or a not confident in your handstand hold or hold a variety of shapes if you want to show strength and control in your movements
-
To progressive this, press lift your handstand
-
To regress this try from a fore arm or tripod position , a controlled kick is fine if you cannot tuck jump or lift

Inverting to the pole via handstand is on of my fave ways to start a combo, it adds a dynamic element and you can hold some cool shapes once confident in the handstand hold or you can go straight on to the pole if you are not confident or stable in holding a handstand shape or variation
-
To progress this press lift your handstand
-
To regress this try if from a forearm or tripod position

My tips for open practice or free time if your mind goes blank as soon as you get to the studio
-
Make a rough plan with a note book or notes app with back up moves should you need them to make sure you always end on a positive (not all sessions are great)
-
Warm up, treat it like any other session
-
Have saved folders in ig with inspiration videoes
-
Journal your session
-
Choose level appropriate tricks and conditioning moves if no spotter is available
-
Use your studio log book if you get stuck
-
Cool down
-
Have fun

If you are looking to up your invert game, adding spins to inverts on both static and spinning pole is a game changer, please note it’s a lot harder to spin to invert on a spin pole then a static

Photo shoot tips from a seasoned pole dancer and ex fitness model to get the most out of your shoot
-
Plan plan plan! The average shoot is 30-60 mins long, that time will fly when you are shooting in the studio, make a list of moves in an order that you want the picture, I have lost count of the amount of times I have been asked what to do in a group shot, 5 decent tricks and some simple poses are usually enough
-
Decide on your outfit or outfits against the color back drop you are having, don’t have to many changes one or two is usually enough and a back up just in case
-
Keep it simple and by that I mean now is not the time to shoot your newest and hardest trick! Pick moves that you can do well and hold, you will have to do the move more then once and hold that move
-
Play to your strengths and pick moves you like a perform well, for me anything on my hands is usually a winner
-
Arrive early to warm up, photoshoots are intense and should be treated just like a class, you also do not want to arrive stressed
-
Take light snacks and have something light to eat before your shoot! It’s tempting not to eat to keep your stomach flat but you need your energy when holding moves
Some moves will take more time especially with a prop! The yellow shot with the skirt took 18 takes to get, it was exhausting
-
Use the floor, the floor is your friend and some of my best photos have been simple shots on the floor
-
Have back up moves planned incase your listed moves don’t go to plan, I think I have a side saddle Superman in every shoot I have done
-
Your simple moves are best as filler move or shot last when your energy has dipped
-
Having friend with you to help you is a bonus, the shoot sat in the red skirt required someone to hold it and let go, it’s also great to have your own personal cheer leader with you
-
Warm in to your bendy moves, you do not want to come away with an injury! I tore a hamstring on a photo shoot in a split
-
Have fun and don’t stress out, the point is to enjoy the experience and have fun showing the world (or not) what you can do
-
What is your go to Photoshoot move?

Static pole dance fitness combo, spin to inverts are a sneaky way to get some conditioning in to your practice if you are not super keen on conditioning
-
This particular combo is a a higher intermediate combo and one of my faves
-
I’ll be talking more about sneaky conditioning later this week
-
If you have any questions drop them in the comments

You may not know this but…I have competed and performed pole and aerial mutiple times but the lock down changed my trajectory
-
I’m not the most fluid dancer in the world but I absolutely love and miss performing and I would advise anyone wanting to, to put themselves out there
-
My first show case in 2011, I was super proud of this routine even though I danced way to fast
-
I competed 5 times in 1 year and got severe burnout from the intensity of training needed to perform well in my competition
-
In this year I placed everywhere from 1st to last, placement is not a big factor for me but I know it is for others
-
My American beauty routine scored 1 out of 5 for theme, sometimes the feedback isn’t what you want it to be
-
I grossly underestimated the extra time needed for training a doubles routine, we were not prepared enough and I also competed in pro as well as doubles at this show
-
I have performed at weddings, birthdays and charity events which I always enjoy doing
-
I realized i was to old to podium dance when i danced a 2 hour set and took a week to recover from it ( as a youngster i worked club nights without the pole, my recovery as an 18 year old was taken for granted, my now 43 year old body is just grateful i can still dance
-
I performed in a care home back in 2018 and ended up in all the tabloids! As an introvert i did not like this attention
-
After the lockdown i took a different career direction and i dont have much time to perform
-
Would you like to perform and is there anything stopping you?

High intermediate / early advanced static pole tumble
-
You need to climb at least 3 times to have space to tumble down (I cut this out as it’s boring to watch) you need a solid shoulder dismount to safely execute this combo
-
Not quite there yet? Work on your shoulder dismount and straddle hold
