🔴⚫ FULL TIME: Thorn Athletic 0–2 Port Glasgow Amateurs ⚫🔴

We travelled to Beith missing several key players and came up against a young, energetic Thorn Athletic side.

Despite being short-handed, we took control of the game and created the better chances throughout.

Peter Boyd opened the scoring in the first half, reacting quickest after the Thorn keeper spilled the ball and making no mistake from close range.

We continued to control proceedings after the break and eventually got the second. Ciaran Rodgers collected the ball from a throw-in, beat two defenders and fired a brilliant strike from outside the box across the keeper and into the far corner.

One goal in each half, a clean sheet and another three points on the board. The scoreline could—and probably should—have been more convincing, but it was a strong, disciplined performance from the boys.

Back to competitive action today, with a wee Port Glasgow derby to open the season.

We dominated the early stages and should have been ahead, but several good chances went begging. The breakthrough finally came after 37 minutes when Blair capitalised on a mistake and calmly slotted home.

Just two minutes later, Kirk doubled our lead with an absolute peach—bending the ball into the top corner from around 35 yards. 🚀

OBU pulled one back right on half-time after what looked like a clear foul on the skipper, but the referee played on and they took advantage.

We came out far sharper in the second half, and Blair restored our two-goal lead within five minutes. Lennon then struck twice in two minutes before Owen added the sixth.

Blair completed his hat-trick, and our final goal came from one of the McCready twins—we’re still trying to work out which one. 🤣

OBU grabbed a late consolation to make it 8–2.

It could have become a tricky afternoon had we continued playing as we did in the first half, but credit to the boys—they went through the gears and were absolutely ruthless after the break.

Now that the dust has settled on an incredible season, it's time to look back on what this group of players achieved.

The blood, sweat, tears, knocks, injuries and sacrifices were all worth it.

⚽ 156 goals scored
⚽ 22 different goalscorers
🛡️ Just 17 league goals conceded
🏆 League Champions

We lost the opening league game of the season, but that would prove to be our only defeat all year.

The numbers speak for themselves, but what made this team special was the character we showed week after week. From the goalkeeper right through to the strikers, everyone played their part.

A lot was made of our title battle with Eddlewood. We went there twice and they couldn't beat us, and when they came to Parklea we put in one of the performances of the season to win 5-1. That was the moment we truly started to believe the league was ours to win.

Since Christmas, our run was nothing short of remarkable. Every league game won apart from draws against Glenvale and Eddlewood. Week after week the boys turned up and delivered when it mattered most.

And then there was the finish.

To win the league with a 94th-minute goal sums this team up perfectly. No excuses, no panic, no giving up. When the pressure was at its highest, the boys found a way.

Champions by mentality.
Champions by character.
Champions because we earned it.

🏆 Bobby Thomson Challenge Cup🏆

🔴Port Glasgow AFC 3 – 2 Dynamo EK ⚫️

Played at Parklea Astro🏟

What. A. Result. 😮‍💨

We hosted Dynamo EK — a team sitting two leagues above us — at Parklea Astro in the Bobby Thomson Challenge Cup, and the boys pulled off a massive 3-2 win thanks to a goal in the dying seconds! 👊

We went 1-0 down at half-time but never dropped the heads. Midway through the second half, Ryan acrobatically finished off a Kearnsy free-kick to level things up.

We were piling on the pressure, with Coyle rattling the post from a corner, but Dynamo hit back on the break to make it 2-1 with ten to go.

That just fired us up even more 🔥
Kearnsy nicked the ball off their defender, burst down the right and laid it on a plate for Blair to smash under the keeper. 2-2.

Then in the dying moments — Callum wins yet another flick-on, Lennon races through and hits the post, and Kearnsy’s there to instinctively slot home the winner. Pandemonium at Parklea. 😍

What a fantastic night it was.

We are forever grateful for people coming to our events spending yir hard earned cash on tickets and raffles etc, these funds are vital for the club survival.
