β€’ Rest is a critical part of progress for the body to recover and repair, regardless of your fitness level or sport.

β€’ Sorry to be a spoiler but there is no ideal or Instagram "worthy" rest day. Every individual will need different as it depends on the intensity and frequency of your normal routine, along with your lifestyle outside of exercise.

β—‡ Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy. Flexibility helps to maintain a range of motion in the joints, as without it, the muscles shorten and become tight. β—‡

Medical Acupuncture πŸ“

Is Medical Acupuncture safe?

Medical Acupuncture is generally very safe. Serious side effects are very rare – less than one per
10,000 treatments.

Does acupuncture have side effects?

- Drowsiness occurs after treatment in a small number of patients.
- Minor bleeding or bruising occurs after acupuncture in about 3% of treatments; pain during
treatment occurs in about 1% of treatments.
- Fainting can occur in certain patients, particularly at the first treatment.

Medical Acupuncture πŸ“

What is it?

Medical Acupuncture is a form of therapy in which fine needles are inserted into specific points on
the body.

MA stimulates the nerves in skin, muscle and other tissues, and can produce a variety of
effects. We know that it increases the release of the body’s natural painkillers, including endorphin
and serotonin, in the pathways of both the spinal cord and the brain. This modifies the way pain
signals are received by the brain.

Medical Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific points on the skin.
Individuals react to MA in varying ways, depending on whether they are what is known as a β€˜strong
reactor’ or not. In general Acupuncture may make patients feel slightly drowsy/relaxed. This can
occur during the session for the strong reactors, or later the same day. Some people may not
experience it at all. This does not mean that MA won’t work. Many patients sleep very heavily on
the same night of their first treatment.

Soft cupping (also known as gliding cupping) is where the cups are moved during the treatment to massage the muscles. To do this the practitioner will use oil on the skin to allow the cups to move easily without uncomfortable friction. The silicon cups are hypoallergenic.

How does it work?

Cupping creates a vacuum action; it is believed to mobilise blood flow to the skin creating a mild immune response and increasing anti-inflammatory chemicals in the body. It stretches tight muscles and fascia making it a beneficial treatment for athletes. Bruises represent the 'parking' action where the cups are left on a specific area - this draws the stagnant blood to the surface and improves blood circulation to the tissues.

Benefits of cupping

1. Pain reduction
Cupping, particularly soft cupping, has similar effects to a massage and is therefore beneficial in relieving muscular pain.

2. Releases muscle tension
Cupping softens muscle tissue and helps to relieve muscle knots which results in looser feeling, more flexible muscles. Cupping usually targets muscle groups that are prone to tightness such as the hamstrings, the adductors and the back and shoulder muscles.

Pictures show dry cupping during and the effects straight after the session caused by the cups. The marks come from the blood and toxins located in the over-worked muscle coming to the skin surface from the space created by the suction of the cups.
