When thinking about trying to get a rider stronger and more stable for performance, it’s important to think globally when it comes to programming, rather than just in an isolated fashion.

Having a strong upper body, and in particular a strong back as a whole, is crucial.

By being globally stronger, you’ll have a body that is more stable on the bike and better at producing force into the pedals.

You’ll also be better at resisting the opposing forces coming back up through the body, helping you fatigue later into a ride.

Don’t neglect training your upper body. It will benefit you more than you think.

It’s not about being big, it’s about being strong and robust.

To better learn how you can look after yourself off the bike, comment or DM the word UNSTOPPABLE to find out more.

Moments like these 🖤

Time can really fly by when you live in another country.

So getting to enjoy some time together with my daughter over breakfast this morning made me realise life is pretty good.

I probably don’t stop and appreciate that enough as it’s easy to get caught up in what’s next….

Work, plans, goals, places to be, things you want to achieve.

So I’m grateful for these little moments 🖤

Today I turn 44. Single. Never married. One daughter who’s now old enough to chase her own dreams. Working my dream job. Living in one of the best cities in the world and trying to make the most of every opportunity to enjoy life to its fullest.

I’m not saying that to gloat or look for sympathy. Some of it is by design, but that doesn’t mean I’ve got everything figured out.

I still have my own insecurities. I still doubt myself. I still question the decisions I make and wonder what might be next.

I haven’t always made the right choices, but I’ve always believed it’s better to regret a decision you made than spend your life wondering, what if?

It’s why I take chances. It’s why I get to live in Barcelona and do what I love.

So, for all the ups and downs, life is good.

And for the first time, I can honestly say I know exactly what I want out of life.

When that’ll happen though is one of life’s little mysteries 😆

Here’s to finding out. Salud 🖤

Traditional S&C falls apart in a Sport that never stops Racing.

Not the training itself, the way we traditionally have been told to view and programme it.

GPP, Strength Endurance, Maximal Strength, Power, Peak, Maintain.

It’s a model that assumes one thing riders these days very rarely get…

Long, uninterrupted blocks of training before making it count in competition.

Amateur or professional, modern racing doesn’t give you that. Riders these days are competing almost year round.

Indoors or out, seasons have got longer and the off seasons shorter.

You can’t just drop a rigid blocks of training into a calendar like that. There’s no clean window to phase.

The moment you start to plan it, something gets in the way and changes it.

So here’s a question I keep coming back to. How do you actually develop and prepare a rider off the bike when they never stop racing?

Do you need to build a quality and if you do, when can that happen? Or do you just need to maintain health to survive a season?

That’s the problem I’m continuously working on and it’s not always just as simple as saying you must go to the gym as a cyclist.

I think you have to have a different way of looking at the whole thing and understand what’s the most appropriate way of approaching programming and athletic development it at this moment in time.

If you’re a rider and you’re living this problem, let’s talk. Comment or DM me the word UNSTOPPABLE to find out how you can be managed in a smarter way so your performance doesn’t drop.
