Today I had the honour of Accepting the Mark Lees Endeavour Award at the University of Central Lancashire, UK.
Mark was a past student and athlete at UCLAN who sadly passed away in 2015. Prior to his passing he completed 2 years of third level study before taking one year out to undergo treatment of his illness. He later came back to complete his degree with a First Class Honours in Sports Coaching before his illness sadly took his strength.
Each year students are nominated by university staff and Marks family decide who is most appropriate. The acknowledgments are:
1) Show a commitment to their course that stands out.
2) Support for their fellow students and perhaps staff.
3) Have supported their local community in some capacity in a significant way.
4) Faced adversity and still met the demands of the course.
5) Stood out in another way that demonstrates their suitability for this award.
I was lucky enough and thankful to be chosen by Marks family and it was fantastic meeting this very inspirational young man's family and being presented by the University Head of School. Finally without ever knowing or setting out to receive an award it was nice knowing that the university staff had that extra eye for detail and acknowledged my work and progress through the 2016/17 Academic year.

One of my first Youth coaching experiences was a volunteer role I got at Preston North End! Here I got a true insight to how a professional clubs academy operates. I had the pleasure of meeting various coaches and observing their own styles which in turn helped me grow my own style and philosophy! Here I am as an 18 year old with Alan Kelly jnr and Jack Cudworth who I couldn't speak highly enough of. I developed a good coaching relationship with jack on the field! And during my second spell I got to assist and lead Goalkeeper sessions with 15-18's. Some session's include coaching 1-to-1 with Callum Robertson who is now a first team goalkeeper.
