A little pad work to keep things interesting 👊🥊
The drills look simple from the outside.
They're not.
Every person in this room is working out something specific.
Something physical.
Something mental.
Something they probably couldn't put into words.
But they'll feel it on the drive home.
And come back next week because of it. 👊

Something happens when a woman finds out what her body is actually capable of.
This photo is that moment.

There's no version of yourself you need to be before you walk through that door.
Just the version that shows up.👊
There's a version of you that trains consistently.
That has somewhere to be a couple of nights a week.
That has something to work towards that has nothing to do with work or family or obligation.
That version of you is different.
Not unrecognisably.
Just quietly different.
I've watched it happen to enough people to know it's not coincidence.
It's what happens when you consistently do something hard.
That challenges you.
That humbles you.
That puts you in a room with people who are just getting on with it.
And somehow makes you better at everything else.
That version of you is available.
It just requires showing up. 👊
I've watched people come through these doors at some of the hardest points of their lives.
And I've watched training become the thing they held onto.
Not because it fixed anything.
But because it gave them somewhere to be.
Something that demanded their physical presence in a way that pulled them out of their head.
A community of people who didn't need to know what they were going through.
Who just needed them to show up.
Who were genuinely glad when they did.
I think about those people a lot.
Because they taught me something important.
Showing up when everything in you wants to stay home.
That's not weakness.
That's one of the bravest things a person can do.
Something I've noticed about the adults who train here long term.
They stop talking about how they look.
And start talking about what they can do.
That shift sounds small.
It isn't.
Most adults spend years at war with their body.
Frustrated by what it looks like.
What it used to look like.
What it doesn't do anymore.
Training changes that relationship.
Not immediately.
Not dramatically.
But over time you start measuring yourself differently.
Not by the mirror.
By what you could do last month that you can't do yet.
By what you can do this month that you couldn't do last month.
That's a completely different way of living in your own body.
And once you find it it's hard to go back.

Men don't often get told that taking care of themselves is important.
Not in a way that sticks anyway.
We're quite good at telling men to man up.
To push through.
To get on with it.
We're less good at telling them that one hour a week of something genuinely theirs is not selfish.
It's necessary.
That the version of them that trains is better at everything else.
Better at work.
Better at home.
Better at being present for the people who need them.
This isn't me trying to sell martial arts.
This is just what I've watched happen to men in this room.
Over and over again.
For years.

Parents of shy children listen to this.
Shyness and capability are not the same thing.
We've coached children who barely said a word for months.
Who watched from the edge for weeks before they joined in.
Who took longer than anyone expected.
And then something clicked.
And the child who nobody heard suddenly had plenty to say.
Not because we fixed them.
Because we gave them somewhere safe enough to find it themselves.
This little one found it pretty fast.
But the timeline doesn't matter.
Finding it does.

Some men find a place like this in their twenties.
Some find it later.
Both are fine.
