Freelance Trainer / Rider available in the North West!

All ages / levels and abilities from beginner up to advanced.

I have competed up to Inter 1 level and represented GB on numerous occasions πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ This was on my own horse who I trained from a 5 year old through the levels.

I have competed in many showing classes when I was younger and more recently helped produce horses who have gone on to qualify for HOYS / RIHS etc.

I have received years of the best training through BD youth programmes, training with Olympic riders including the amazing Carl Hester.

I Qualified for the BD national championships and won at Premier League level on several occasions.

I imported and produced many young horses who have gone on to compete at PSG / Grand Prix level after giving them the best start possible.

I have helped produced unbacked ponies not β€œbuilt for dressage” to go on and win at the BD regionals.

I have helped eventers and showjumpers prep their horses for the season, by making sure everything on the flat was as good as it could be, this proved to be invaluable to their xc / sj rounds due to improved straightness / balance etc.

I can help those who are struggling for time due to work commitments etc, and just need someone to school their horse regularly to keep them at their best.

I also specialise in those struggling with confidence issues due to things like previous bad experiences, helping to remember tests and can accompany you on the day of your show / competition to ensure everything goes smoothly!

Whatever help and support you need, I can tailor my services to fit. If you would like any further information, drop me a message or whatsapp 07854977287.

Any shares greatly appreciated!

⭐️ LOTTIE’S TRAINING TIPS ⭐️

WHAT EXACTLY IS A HALF HALT?!

So…..you’re riding your horse, 30 mins into a session with your trainer and they tell you for the 100th time to β€œhalf halt”…… and you think, β€œok, I can do that, half halt, easy! Little pull down the reins, slow down, carry on, everything’s good!”……Right?! But what exactly do they mean? What do you need to be doing with your body to apply a correct half halt? And when do we need to use it??

Basically you need to think of the half halt as a β€œreorganise” of your horse. You can use it as a correction if your horse is becoming unbalanced or too forwards / strong or you can use it to prepare your horse before a movement, corner or transition.

So, when riding I have 3 parts of my body that I use for the β€œwoah” part of the half halt…. My hands, my seat and my core. I use a little bit of each of these together with my leg to put the horse back in balance and ride the hind leg back underneath.

I take a slight squeeze down the reins, I tense slightly with my core and the most effective part for me is my seat! I use my inner thigh and I squeeze onto the saddle which creates slight resistance, imagine the saddle is the wheel and your inner thigh is the break pads!

I would say I use 2 different half halts, one with my leg and one without! If I want to β€œre-energise” the horse, transfer the weight back onto the hind leg and get them reacting and β€œtogether” ready for a movement etc, then I use my leg at the same time. If a horse is running away from me and has become strong, then I will leave my leg out of it and take it off until I feel the horse has come back to me.

The last thing to remember is that a half halt is quick! Its a matter of 2-3 seconds and no more, sometimes much quicker depending on how quickly your horse reacts! Otherwise, you end up anchoring on at the end of the reins and holding yourself tight in your seat and core, this will only make your horse set against you and become stronger! You must show your horse where you want him to be and then give him chance to do it himself, by going quiet in your riding after the half halt. Otherwise it will be like trying to drive a car with the hand-break still on!

I hope you have all found this helpful! I appreciate we all ride differently and have our own way of doing things! But this is what has worked for me and allowed me to train my own horses and my clients horses very successfully!

Keep a look out for more training tips and if anyone has anything they would like me to explain / discuss in my next post then feel free to comment below! Feel free to share away!!!

Happy riding everyone!!!! 😁

Proud of these two Kayleigh Waite and Sass! Kayleigh was struggling with nerves and test riding at competitions. She didnt quite have Sass where she needed him to stop him from spooking, so we have worked on that over the last few weeks, did a test riding session earlier in the week and I went along today to help with her warm up, and to keep her nice and chilled!

1st place with 70%, absolutely smashed it you two! πŸ’ƒπŸΌ πŸ† πŸ₯‡ πŸ¦„

What are some of the biggest things you struggle with when schooling / competing your horse / pony?

I am going to be filming some training content over the next few months and would love to know what your biggest struggles are, and what would be most helpful for me to focus on! It doesn’t just have to be riding, it can be show nerves / travelling / remembering tests etc too! 🐴 (And you dont have to compete to join in, just general schooling issues when working at home are also fine!)

Due to having a little more time on my hands πŸ™ˆ I am able to offer regular lessons / clinics in the North West area. I can also offer schooling services if you are looking for some help to prep your horse for the summer shows, or just want to improve their general way of going. This isnt just a temporary thing, whatever I do next I am keeping some time aside for teaching / training as its something I have really missed and still have quite high demand for.

I have competed up to Inter 1 level and represented GB on numerous occasions πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ This was on my own horse who I trained from a 5 year old through the levels.

I saw a video of Georgie recently starting out Cross Country which was captioned β€œthere’s no feeling like it”. Each time we get onboard these amazing creatures, we know in the backs of our minds that it can be dangerous, but the love for the sport outweighs those risks. I cant even comprehend how Georgies family and friends are feeling right now, and even those who didnt know her like myself, are still affected because it feels so close to home, we are all one big community. I hope her family can take some comfort in just how evidently loved she was, and how she left this world doing something which she loved so much.

Rest in peace Georgie πŸ•ŠοΈ
