Everyone wants to know what makes the most difference when it comes to the nutrition side of getting in shape and improving strength and fitness.

Well this pyramid gives you the answers!

Like an entry level job you’ve got to start at the bottom. The overall calorie consumption will dictate energy availability and whether or not you weight goes up or down depending on your activity levels.

Macros - Protein, Carbs and Fat will dictate a few things and are super import if your goals are to look great at the same time as performing well.

Adequate protein is key to recovery, building muscle and cellular health.

Carbs are the bodies preference when it comes to fuel. Converted to glycogen in the body and stored in the muscles and liver as energy resources. Too much though can have negative implications and reduce insulin sensitivity leading to a down regulated metabolic health.

Fats are key to hormones production, cellular health and a lot of functions within the body. Fat is also a protective agent for organs including the brain and is an alternative energy source.

Moving on, Timing your nutrient intake can help with recovery and physical performance levels during sessions and allow you to perform more optimally throughout the day

Food sources are next seeing higher quality and less processed sources as the preference as a general rule. Aiming for whole food sources from a wide variety of foods will give you a leg up on this section.

And finally supplements and hydration. Most people drink to their levels of thirst anyway which is a great rule of thumb. Athletes that require more electrolytes can use supplements to optimise levels during long stints of training (multiple hours) other supplements should only really be considered after address the lower parts of the pyramid however I would suggest to anyone that creatine monohydrate is a must for performance, cognitive function and overall wellbeing*

Results don’t lie, Liam came to me wanting to lose weight and feel more confident.
