🟡🔵Friendly - Match Report🔵🟡

Saturday 10th October 2026
Glenburn 2013s vs 2014s
Prestwick Academy 9:45am KO

With no competitive fixtures this week, the two teams lined up in a friendly encounter to keep both squads active and match sharp 👌🏻

Cold blustery wind was biting into the spectators reminding us all we are well into autumn and it’s time to look out the big jackets and woolly bunnets for next week ❄️

So just a brief match summary this week with the key highlights and goal scorers. The 2014s played in our home yellow and blue kit 🟡🔵and the 2013’s in the red away kit🔴

On 6 minutes Sam McPherson tried a lovely speculative effort from 50 yards which the keeper managed to recover 🧤

The 2013’s made the breakthrough on 8 minutes after good work from Lewis Taylor on the left wing crossing for Zac Aiton to lay off to Rory Wilson who blasted home for the Reds ⚽️

On 17 minutes the Reds doubled their lead after a midfield through ball from Fletcher McLurkin was gathered by Rory Wilson who showed great composure to round the keeper and tap home from a tight angle ⚽️

On 30 minutes the Reds went 3-0 up with Caleb Keith hitting a lovely shot from the edge of the box into the far top corner ⚽️

3 minutes later and it was 4-0 the Reds after Sam MacPherson hit an even better shot from distance which flew into the top right hand corner of the net ⚽️

35 minutes meant it was halftime with both teams electing for a quick changeover and the action resumed ✅

6 minutes into the second-half and the yellows tails were up as they were battling hard and pressing well especially down the left wing 💯

After the Reds failed to clear their lines in the corner, tenacious work from the yellows resulted in a cross coming in which was met well by the yellow attackers & Lucas Stirling in the Reds goal made an unbelievable one handed scoop save above and behind his head to stop the ball from crossing the line 🧤 but the yellows reacted quickest to knock the ball home narrowing the deficit to 4-1 ⚽️

On 45 minutes Fletcher McLurkin had a shot blocked on the line for the Reds that looked a certain goal

6 minutes later on 51 minutes the Reds did extend their lead as Lewis Taylor crossed from the right wing and Rory Wilson knocked it home easily for his hat trick ⚽️

On 55 minutes the Reds had a corner which was taken by Sam MacPherson and sent to the back post inside the six yard box where a few players were competing to get on the end of it & the goal came after a vital touch from Alex Craig ⚽️

On 57 minutes there was a innocuous clash between Devlin Harker and one of the yellows which resulted in a free kick for the Reds which was taken quickly to release the ever alert Rory Wilson through the middle and after controlling the ball at the edge of the box he lifted it beautifully over the advancing keeper for his fourth ⚽️ of the match to put the Reds ahead 7-1.

The final goal of the game was for the Reds and it came on 64 minutes following a throw in from the left hand side to Alex Craig who controlled the ball well and rounded the keeper to knock hime his second ⚽️ of the half making the final score 8- 1 for the Reds.

A good run out for both teams today, a tighter affair than the scoreline would suggest, and hopefully both talented Miners squads go on to do really well this season. Thanks again to Glenburn MWFC 2014s for the game🤝

Thank you as always to resident photographer Eddie Wallace for the excellent action shots 📷

🟡🔵MATCH REPORT 🔵🟡

Saturday 3rd October 2026
Glenburn MWFC vs Maybole
The Oval
10:30am KO

A mild, relatively still day at The Oval today as both teams completed their pre match preparations, before lining up for kick off with Glenburn shooting towards the tennis centre.

Both teams headed into this match undefeated so far this season and having a history of contesting tough, close games over the last few years - and today’s match was to provide more of the same ✅

Maybole started the stronger of the two teams winning all the battles in midfield and passing the ball about freely across the pitch. Glenburn on the other hand were often on the back foot playing deep and inviting Maybole to come at them.

During these first 10 minutes Harry Templeton was called upon several times to make last man challenges inside the box 😱 resulting in a series of Maybole corners which fortunately were dealt with well by the Glenburn defence 💪🏻

It was therefore 11 minutes before Glenburn showed what they are capable of when playing out from the back Declan Carlyle broke down the left wing and sent a lovely diagonal left foot pass through the air to Zac Aiton at the edge of the box but his first time shot went over the bar 🥅

Maybole continued to dominate however for the next 10 minutes although Glenburn’s defence were equal to the task, but The Miners still found it difficult to play out through midfield into forward areas often just relieved just to clear the lines 😰

On 20 minutes Glenburn had another attack which allowed Zac Aiton to set up Alex Craig inside the box but his shot was blocked and gathered by the goalkeeper🧤

Glenburn were having to content themselves at this point in the match with defending well and hitting Maybole on the break.

On 26 minutes, and realistically against the run of play, Glenburn were awarded a penalty when Alex Craig hit a shot which struck a Maybole player on the hand.

After a delay whilst the referee explained his decision to the Maybole touchline, Alex Craig had kept his cool to confidently step up and send the ball low just inside the keeper's left hand post putting The Miners 1-0 ahead ⚽️

5 minutes later and the Miners went two nil up on 31 minutes after good work from Robbie Douglas in the left back position saw him get forward and deliver a delightful left footed cross to the far side of the 6 yard box where Alex Craig and Lewis Taylor were waiting, and it was Lewis that sent the ball high into the net to the delight of his teammates ⚽️ 2-0 The Miners.

Right on the stroke of halftime Maybole managed to pull a goal back after winning their battles in midfield, they released a through ball for the striker to run onto and he slotted the ball expertly past the advancing Lucas Stirling in the Glenburn goal ⚽️

HT 2-1

No doubt some stern words were spoken 🗣️ at halftime as Glenburn emerged for the second-half looking like a different team.

On 37 minutes Glenburn conceded a free kick 20 yards from their own goal. As Maybole took the kick it was well defended & Devlin Harker cleared well out to the left wing where Declan Carlyle carried the ball forward playing the into the centre towards Rory Wilson who set up Alex Craig inside the box to finish well past the Maybole goalkeeper ⚽️ putting The Miners 3-1 ahead after just two minutes of the second-half played.

There was to be no more scoring throughout the rest of the second-half - but for much of it Glenburn played much more fluently through midfield with Lewis Taylor and Rory Wilson causing all sorts of problems up front winning a series of corners for Glenburn, whilst The Miners defence remained well marshalled by Harry Templeton with Devlin Harker, Kai Kennedy, Noah McDonald, Robbie Douglas and Caleb Keith all standing strong 💪🏻

So much so they restricted Maybole opportunities to a series of free kicks 20 yards or so from goal during the last 10 minutes of the match with the only troublesome free kick breaching the defensive wall on 66 minutes which Lucas Stirling did well to save 🧤 diving low to his right hand side to turn the ball away for a corner which was easily cleared by The Miners defence.

So a game that started so well for Maybole was turned on its head by a determined Glenburn defence aided by some fantastic breakaway goals and finished with a strong second hand performance from the midfielders and strikers.

🟡🔵MATCH REPORT🔵🟡

Saturday 26th September 2026
Scottish Cup Round 2
Ardeer Thistle vs Glenburn MWFC
St Matthews Academy
11:00am KO

A wee trip up the coast to sunny Saltcoats ☀️by the sea today for yesterday’s fixture on the grass pitches off Jacks Road.

5 minutes in and good early Glenburn pressure creates space in the middle for Rory Wilson to have a shot which is well blocked 🧤and partially cleared only as far as 30 yards from goal where Tommy Stuart plays a lovely through ball to split the defence and turn them allowing Rory Wilson to break clear to finish past the goalkeeper ⚽️ putting the Miners ahead early in the tie.

3 minutes later and that man Rory Wilson is involved again this time playing a ball out to our left wing where Declan Carlyle bursts a gut to reach the ball, keep it in play, skip past a strong challenge from an Ardeer defender to get himself into the box & Dec hits a lovely left foot diagonal strike into the far top corner of the goal ⚽️ which finds a hole in the net & as the Miners celebrate going 2-0 up the referee patches up the hole in the goal.

Glenburn are looking good at this stage in the game, passing the ball about well when on 14 minutes a foul is given away by Ardeer 25 yards from goal and Robbie Douglas tries his luck with the wind at his back to send a direct free kick just over the bar.

One minute later though Glenburn got their third as Ardeer tried to clear from the goal kick it's met in midfield by Tommy Stuart who heads into the path of Lewis Taylor bearing down on goal & he slots the ball past the Ardeer keeper ⚽️ to put the Miners three goals ahead.

Following the centre Ardeer get up the park quickly and their effort goes wide for a Glenburn goal kick, however Lucas Stirling tries to take a quick goal kick out to the left to start an early attack but an alert Ardeer attacker manages to dispossess Robbie Douglas & slots the ball ⚽️ into a virtually empty net. 1-3

On 20 minutes Glenburn managed to work the ball out from midfield to Declan Carlyle on the left wing who controls well and runs 10 yards before sending a great cross into the box which is met well by Lewis Taylor but his shot goes narrowly over the bar.

2 minutes later another Glenburn attack wins a corner which is taken quickly and as the ball is partially cleared it lands 20 yards from goal at Sam Yasa’s feet and his first time shot is just a bit too high and wide.

Midway through the first half now, and Glenburn make their customary substitutions & one of the subs Sam MacPherson almost makes an immediate impact as he gets on the end of the ball 18 yards from goal and strikes a good effort on target but the Ardeer keeper makes an equally good save 🧤

The remainder of the first half is quite an equal affair with Ardeer battling harder in midfield with a lot of contacts being deemed as foul play by the referee it becomes a bit of a stop start affair right up until halftime.

Into the second-half & after just three minutes Glenburn score a lovely goal which is unfortunately ruled out for offside ❌ The move starts initially from central midfield as the balls is passed forward to Sam Yasa he tries an instinctive shot from 25 yards which swerves to the right but stays inside the pitch allowing Sam MacPherson to recycle the ball and send a looping cross into the six yard box where Rory Wilson is on hand to head home. Bizarrely however the referee claims that someone had been in an offside position after the cross from Sam, even though there were two players in front of Rory as he headed the ball home.

The next 15 minutes turn into a midfield battle with neither side creating much in the way of good attacking play and again there are a lot of niggly fouls from both teams stagnating any free flowing football.

Enter the last 15 minutes and Glenburn started to assert themselves a bit more once again.

On 55 minutes Noah McDonald was doing a lot of good work from the right fullback position and got himself on the end of a chance which went narrowly wide.

59 minutes saw Noah McDonald and Alex Craig combine well together with Noah crossing from the right touchline to Sam MacPherson at the edge of the box who struck a lovely shot high into the net ⚽️ from 18 yards to put the Miners 1-4 ahead.

One minute later and it was 1-5 the Miners as our midfield won the ball back from Ardeer following their centre and set up another attack through the middle allowing Tommy Stuart to hit a shot from the edge of the box which the keeper could only parry and Declan Carlyle was quickest to respond on the right side of our attack to knock the ball home ⚽️

Ardeer were not for giving up though continuing to contest the tie fiercely and on 65 minutes following sustained pressure at the edge of the Glenburn box they managed to get a goal back with a looping effort which dropped in under the bar behind Lucas Stirling 2-5.

There was to be no more scoring though & five minutes later the referee blew for full time and as the players & coaches shook hands at the end of the match it’s Glenburn who progress to round three of the Scottish Cup.

🟡🔵MATCH REPORT🔵🟡

Saturday 19th September 2026
Kilwinning Rangers vs Glenburn MWFC
Kilwinning Sports Centre 11:00am KO

A short journey up the A78 🚙 on league business today to play The Buffs for the first time in 7 months.

The boys got off to a really strong start launching several great attacks down the left wing with Declan Carlyle eager to run at the buffs defence.

The opening goal wasn’t long in arriving then and it came on 3 minutes. Harry Templeton passed out from the centre of defence to Alex Craig in a left midfield position, and he carried the ball forward then released a pass to Zac Aiton just inside the box and he used a strong shoulder to hold off the defender and create room to turn, settle & shoot past the buffs keeper ⚽️ to put The Miners 0-1 ahead.

The Miners doubled their lead on ten minutes when Caleb Keith played a lovely pass in from Glenburn’s right to Zac Aiton, who laid off to Fletcher McLurkin at the edge of the box & Fletcher showed quick feet and close control to skip past a defender to set up Zac Aiton - who dispatched his and Glenburn’s second into the net ⚽️ making it 0-2 The Miners.

On 27 minutes The Miners went 0-3 up when Lewis Taylor strode forward from a right midfield area and crossed a long diagonal ball into Alex Craig in the centre of The Buffs box. Alex got his shot off and despite a valiant attempt at a save the ball squirmed under the keepers grasp to put The Miners well ahead ⚽️

33 minutes saw Declan Carlyle win a free kick for Glenburn on the touchline adjacent to the six yard box. As both teams set up in the box to attack the free kick on its delivery, Sam MacPherson only had one thought in mind and he sent in a great free kick over the head of the Buffs keeper to his back post ⚽️ and the ball had already crossed the goal line as Harry Templeton met the ball & collided with the Buffs keeper at the same time inside the goal. 0-4 The Miners with Barry MacPherson claiming the assist for his Fatherly advice.

HT 0-4

Into the second half and The Buffs substituted their goalkeeper with an outfield player, so hopefully the young keeper is alright.

The Buffs were having a bit more success troubling The Miners in the opening five minutes of the second half managing to win the ball in midfield and provide their wingers with opportunities to run at our defence.

On 40 minutes as the Buffs left winger broke into the box Harry Templeton came across from central defence and stepped in between him and the ball, but placed more emphasis on blocking the player rather than playing the ball, not a foul in that context, but the delay in clearing the danger allowed the winger to recover the ball & as he was heading away from goal Harry tugged his arm, so the referee awarded a penalty which The Buffs duly dispatched past Lucas Stirling ⚽️ to reduce the deficit to 1-4

The setback spurred The Miners on though as the boys rolled up the sleeves and got back to business.

On 48 minutes great work from Devlin Harker driving through the centre of midfield allowed him to release a good pass to Zac Aiton inside the box. Zac controlled well and created space to hit the net for his hat trick⚽⚽⚽ putting The Miners 1-5 ahead.

Two minutes later and a great move from deep in our own half saw Noah McDonald drive out from our left, pass forward to Rory Wilson who cut back to Zac Aiton, and his first time shot cannoned off the base of the post out wide, where Rory Wilson recovered the ball an drove a cross low into the 6 yard box where Tommy Stuart powered in to meet the ball first and send it home ⚽️ to put The Miners 1-6 ahead with 20 minutes left to play.

The boys were relentless in attack now and Fletcher McLurkin shot narrowly wide on 53 minutes.

There were more opportunities for Zac & Fletcher over the next six minutes before The Miners eventually added to their advantage on 59 minutes when good work and a great pass from Alex Craig set up Zac Aiton in the box again and he finished his fourth powerfully across the keeper into his right side netting ⚽️ to put The Miners 1-7 ahead and out of sight with ten minutes remaining.

On 65 minutes good play from Glenburn’s right midfield area allowed Harry Templeton to get forward and power in a good drive which went just a bit too high & wide.

The Miners finished the scoring on 69 minutes when Lewis Taylor received the ball in a left sided forward area, twenty yards out and he sent in a wicked dipping effort on goal which flew past the helpless keeper and ruffled the net ⚽️ for number eight.

So a really good day at the office for the lads with strong performances all over the pitch 💪🏻 and an admirable 1-8 victory, and we now turn our attention to next weeks encounter away to Ardeer Thistle in the Scottish Cup.

🟡🔵MATCH REPORT🔵🟡

Saturday 12th September 2026
Glenburn MWFC vs Cambusdoon 2012s
The Oval 10:00am KO

A blustery day at The Oval, with a stronger south westerly wind 💨 than last weeks blowing at a steady 24mph from south to north across the pitch.

A stern test for the boys today against a quality side from an older age group in a friendly to keep the squad ticking over as we have a free week due to a bye in the first round the Scottish Cup.

The teams kick off and Cambusdoon have the strong wind at their backs in the first half.

🔵3 mins Glenburn win the ball in midfield and play to Zac Aiton who drives forward and sets up Lewis Taylor on the left whose shot goes just wide of the far post.

🟡13 mins 0-1 goal for Cambusdoon comes from a corner from our right that drops at the feet of a ruck of players in the 6 yard box and someone gets a toe on it to poke home ⚽️

🔵27 mins 0-2 Cambusdoon corner from our left met with a header from one of the tall Cambusdoon players high in the air ⚽️

🟡32 mins another corner, another goal for Cambusdoon taken from the right & met with another header 0-3 ⚽️ with Glenburn struggling to match the height & physicality of the older boys.

Half Time - and here’s hoping with the wind at their backs in the second half the boys get something out of this game as they have looked the better footballing team going forward but the corners and the wind in the first half have created havoc in our box.

🔵45 mins 0-4 Cambusdoon very much against the run of play as The Miners have been dominating the creative play this half. A long ball over the top and a lone Cambusoon player in the middle is free to run in on Lucas Stirling and he finishes well ⚽️

🟡58 mins Glenburn still competing well win a free kick 45 yards out and Sam MacPherson sends it in right onto the far post area and just wide with no takers.

🔵65 mins Fletcher McLurkin hits the post after good work from Rory Wilson tracking a lost cause keeps pressure on Cambusdoon and their throw in is won by Sam MacPherson who combines with Alex Craig to set up Fletcher for the shot from the edge of the box.

🟡69 mins a direct Sam MacPherson direct free kick is cleared by the keepers feet for a corner, and Glenburn maintain pressure in and around the Doon box until full time but the goal never came despites several shots which were blocked by the defenders.

Full time and a useful workout for all the lads, and very little difference between the sides despite the 0-4 score line apart from the height and physicality of the older Cambusdoon boys at corners which our shorter players were unable to deal with.

Thanks always to Eddie Wallace for the photos. Thank you for the game and all the best for the rest of the season to Cambusdoon 12s 🤝
