FISHBURN PARK 4:2 REDCAR TOWN RESERVES
A disappointing night in Whitby as Town fell to defeat at the hands of unbeaten Fishburn Park
A scrappy opening spell saw Town concede after 10 minutes. A long ball was headed from outside his area by Gunn, fell to Smith 40 yards out, and he hit a first-time volley into the unguarded net.
Worse was to follow five minutes later. A Fishburn Park cross from the left was turned in at the near post by Richardson.
Town showed some resolve and started to create chances. Clements was denied a penalty before another break into the box saw him pick out Loughran fifteen yards out, and he powered the ball home.
Eight minutes before the break, Town were level. Myers found Clark on the edge of the Park area. He cut inside and saw his first effort blocked by the keeper but kept his cool to tuck home the rebound.
The early part of the second half was devoid of any real quality from either side as both defences dominated.
Clark had a great run into the area and appeared to be scythed down, but to the amazement of all, he waved play on.
To add insult to injury, it was the home side that struck with their first real opening of the half. A break down the right found sub Halley at the back post. He took a touch and fired into the roof of the net.
Town thought theyβd got an equaliser following more great play by Clark on the left. He beat his man and delivered a great cross to the back post onto the head of the on-rushing Thomson, but the ball hit the back of the covering defenderβs head and was cleared to safety.
With Town holding a high line to try and put pressure on the Fishburn Park back line, the home side broke through and Richardson rounded Gunn to kill the game off.
