Not too much purple shampoo- great for toning, but they can dull the hair and dry it out, blondes need more moisture, bond repair, less heat.
And yes — conditioner is non-negotiable 😉

Reflecting on the last quarter of the year!

October was the start of the next chapter in my career where I committed to my new venture &Coco (coming soon) & got the wheels in motion to launch

After years of procrastinating, I finally pulled together my very own product range for the salon which launches in January.

My team all done amazingly well in their photoshoot, getting content ready & ready to hit the ground running for 2026!

I have hit a new level of juggling skills adding weekend ‘taxi driver’ into the mix as Eliza needs a personal chauffeur to keep up with her social calendar

I celebrated our 10 year anniversary at Great Fosters hotel where the fine dining was off the scale amazing!

I watched my big sister Carla perform at her first Gig in years, she was amazing 🫶🏻 and also watched my niece Matilda absolutely smash it as a dancer in the Panto, it made me so emotional as it’s like déjà vu watching her mother all those years ago 🩷 .with.us

We started on our wedding plans and have our official bridal party 🫶🏻 whoop whoop

We had a brilliant Xmas & Boxing Day, plus a load of social get togethers with much loved friends and family, fantastic food mostly cooked by Chef Hydes & who are seriously great cooks🩷

we saw Pete Tong at the 02!!

I fell into burn out mode trying to juggle life, close one business & launch a new one BUT I recognise it and am determined to sort my Shizz out & get my balance back soon!

My last post raised a lot of questions, to clarify, I didn’t make this decision due to the budget; it’s something I’ve been planning for a while.

The industry has changed a lot in the last 5 years, taxes have risen, employment rates have dropped, & apprenticeships are very low.

Self-employment & home salon models grew exponentially after COVID, tipping the balance for the majority of the industry to self-employed & retail flopped as you can buy everything online cheaper! Sadly, this has had devastating effects on a lot of salons.

We are a service-based industry, yet we pay 20% VAT. You cannot claim back on services, the ratio for claiming back on expenses is very low, in comparison to other industries.

Being a small business, I have been lucky that my overheads were manageable & my salon has been very successful & still is, but I’ve hit a crossroads, I cannot take this business any further as it is!

We are at full capacity, there is no room to expand services or client bases, for me to continue to grow, I need a commercial property, but trading as an employed business outside of my house would crucify me financially! So I needed to pivot!

My brand promotes flexibility, a work-life balance & wellness,therefore I want to be able to offer wellness services as well as hair, stepping into the core values of ‘the lifestyle hairstylist’

For us to provide this we need to think big, it’s a huge step, but I feel it’s organically coming together piece by piece!

Behind the scenes, I’ve been working on what I see as ‘our legacy’ &Coco
This is the future wellness company coming soon!

In the meantime, we say goodbye to ‘Cally Borg Hair’ and step into ‘The house of Coco Collective’ with a new business model, vision and mission because repeating the same cycle will only give me the same results, change is necessary for growth. I’m not sad, I’m excited, after a couple of years of ups and downs it feels great to have a direction and focus again 💪🏻

It’s not just a haircut….

Today a client came to the salon who I hadn’t seen in absolutely ages!

I saw her name in the diary and wondered if it was the same lady I used to work with years ago, and sure enough it was!

She walked in with a big smile and gave me a big hug, it was so nice to see her, catch up and do her hair for her again, she left beaming & I was left feeling grateful!

That service today made my day, and from her review I think it made hers too!

When someone sits in your chair sharing stories about their lives & families it’s more than just a hair cut, it’s trust and connection and that is one of the reasons I love what I do✌🏻
