Tomorrow will be the last day of 'Pick Up A Free Lunch!', by which time we will have provided 20,000 free meals to children all over RCT during the Covid-19 pandemic to the value of around £70,000.

Running the scheme has been a unique experience and privilege, providing us with the opportunity to connect with our local and wider community more closely, and in a way that we aren't typically able to in our usual guise as a children's playcentre.

The last six months have taught us all a lot about the importance of community. Lockdown made the world smaller and forced us to realise that a great deal of what we really need is right here on our doorsteps. Our community, and the people in it, are amazing.

'Pick Up A Free Lunch!' was only made possible with the help of many hands. Volunteers have given their time during a period of global crisis to come to The Play Yard every day to make sandwiches, pack bags and deliver lunches. The personal sacrifice made by each of you has been enormous and should not be underestimated. We will be forever grateful.

In addition to that, a huge number of local businesses and individuals have fundraised and donated money that has enabled us to continue the scheme for as long as we have. We simply cannot thank each and every one of you enough.

Please join us in saying thank you to every one who made 'Pick Up A Free lunch!' possible.

Here’s Martyn Broughton of Active Nutrition rocking his awesome face mask made by his wife while delivering our free lunches today in the Penygraig, Tonypandy and Clydach area.

Cheers Martyn, you’re doing a great job for us!

HUGE thanks to all our volunteer delivery drivers who are out every day delivering lunches to the most vulnerable families in our community. You are all heroes!
What a fantastic day in the woods today with 50 pupils and staff from Treorchy Primary School.
The pupils were fantastic at learning orienteering, safe fire lighting, wood chopping and shelter building. The main skills you need to learn when spending time in the wilderness.

The pupils also learnt about respecting wild places and looking after the plants and animals who live there.

We all had a great time in our new looking Pixie Bridge Woods. A big thanks to our WTOW Woodland management team who have worked hard preparing the woods for our educational trips, Woodland Therapy programme and outdoor events. Now that the summer growth period is over we can really get some work done so that our Woodland is healthier and fit for use.

Part of the Be Active programme with Active Nutrition.

A big thanks to our delivery team today you all done an amazing job
We had a fantastic first night in Cycle Tots yesterday. A big well done to all the boys and girls who took part.

There are a small number of spaces available if you’d like to join us next week.

A great start to our ‘Great Escape’ project.

Our Welcome To Our Woods, Woodland Therapy volunteers were going to be welcoming NHS front line workers into the woods to take part in our Woodland Therapy sessions for some well needed rest bite. But because of COVID restrictions we come up with a remote version.

22 NHS staff have received a Woodland Therapy self care toolbox, a pdf booklet of outdoor activities for relaxation and a weekly fun get together on zoom, including mindfulness and Zumba.

This is a great story as people who were firstly referred to Woodland Therapy as NHS patients have now become volunteers and are helping hard working NHS staff relax, recharge and improve their own mental health.

If the NHS staff are fitter and healthier themselves they can carry on doing the fantastic job of caring for the nation

Great to see how The Play Yard has diversified during the pandemic to support the community.

Plus keeping the facility running so it will still be there when this is over.

We was happy to help out with delivering the lunchboxes last summer, that project put smiles on so many young faces.

We have missed delivering Cycle Tots and the walking rugby at the Play Yard.

Well done Nathan and the team 👏👏👏

A fab first Woodland Therapy Self Care Toolbox session last night with 22 NHS staff.

As part of the Great Escape project funded by Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru / Natural Resources Wales our Woodland Therapy team have put together a digital toolbox version of what we do in the woods at our weekly sessions.

Many of our Woodland Therapy participants who have been referred as patients of the NHS have stayed on as volunteers so it’s a great story that patients are now helping NHS front line staff to destress and improve their own health and well-being.

We need to keep the NHS staff themselves as fit and healthy as possible so they can keep on doing a great job caring for us.

The Woodland Therapy Toolbox includes...
• a self care toolbox inc aromatherapy set by Tina Maria Davies, woodcarving set by Adrian Meredith and Beebombs wild flower seeds.
• a digital booklet with advice and videos by our volunteers of different outdoor mindful activities.
• a weekly zoom meeting and fun Zumba class with our volunteer Cheryl Lindsay.
• a mindful meditation at end.

Cold Water Therapy

It’s great to see that over lockdown many people are looking to the great outdoors to help with the stresses that our new world brings.

plus staying up too late, eating when you are not hungry, sitting on the settee for another Netflix series, putting it off until Monday, moaning how you cant be bothered etc etc

If it doesn't challenge you it doesnt change you.

A good start - get up 1/2hr earlier and get an online Pilates session. join us tmoz 7am

Thanks to everyone involved 😀🌳🦚👍

One of the biggest benefits of exercise first thing in the morning is boosting your body’s metabolism and fat burning abilities.

2 Fat Butning Tips
1. The earlier you exercise the longer you have to burn calories throughout the day.

2. Plus doing it on an empty stomach you are more likely to target body fat as the fuel.

Register below for your FREE morning exercise class. Tmoz we will be concentrating on stretching, flexibility and core strength
