On the 14th September we spent a most agreeable day playing a Friendly Match against Middlesbrough. As usual our Friendly Matches are managed by Robert and everything went smoothly. A pleasant days croquet was followed by tea laid out by Sue.

The Maggie Cowman Competition was played over two days, the 7th and 8th September. The " Maggie" is a charity bash and this year the beneficiary is Macmillan Cancer Support. The first day was a Progressive Doubles Competition which was won by Ki and Katy. The second is is more serious stuff, a Singles Competition, the finals of which was a battle between Ki from Sheffield and our Robert with Robert taking the title. Both days were ably managed by Sue and at the end of each day we were treated to a magnificent tea courtesy of Jo. Our two days raised £700 for Macmillan.

Just for a change, the YF League match v Ben Rhydding, on the 17th August, was played under an overcast sky with occasional drizzle in the morning. Our team: Sue, Jane and Michael beat the visitors by 9 games to 3.

The match was followed by tea accompanied by some excellent cakes and scones made by Jane, seen below

Ripon Croquet Club hosted the First Cross Pennine Competition on Sunday August the 23rd.
The weather was absolutely wonderful and the 17 competitors certainly had near perfect playing conditions.
This was a doubles tournament with each team fielding 2 pairs.
Going into the last round things were neck and neck between Pendle and Ben Rhydding however in the final round Pendle played some of their best croquet of the tournament and came out worthy winners, with Ben Rhydding having to accept the runner up slot. Bishop Monkton and Ripon Spa Croquet Club shared third place.
It was lovely that Roger was able to be part of our team after quite a long time away from the game. Other team members were Sue, Marcia, Robert and Katie.
Andrea Widdison managed the event and Sue provided some excellent afternoon tea for everyone.
This year’s winners Pendle will host the competition next year.
