Camino Diary 🇪🇸🥾 Day 3 — 13.8 miles
Today started with a pilgrim’s breakfast of bread, jam, ham and cheese… plus the porridge I’d packed for myself.
Natasha and Richard had already set off, and we followed shortly afterwards, weaving our way through town and back out into the vineyards.
After around six miles, the landscape began to change. The vineyards disappeared and the fields became much more open and far-reaching. We passed fields of sunflowers too, although they were definitely past their best — I found myself wondering when they’re harvested.
We stopped briefly for coffee and another session at our travelling “foot clinic” with Dr Kate. We are very lucky to have a fantastic podiatrist in the group!
Today was also the first outing for my barefoot hiking shoes. I spent quite a lot of time looking for the least shingley bit of path 😂 Ali was doing exactly the same, so she quickly became my walking buddy as I followed in her footsteps.
The conversation flowed, eventually turning to songs — always a popular topic — before we stopped for lunch at a golf club. Spanish tortilla, bread and a lemon b**r. Perfect walking fuel.
After lunch, the road became longer and more winding and the conversation gradually quietened as we all just kept putting one foot in front of the other.
Eventually the town appeared in the distance and spirits immediately lifted!
We found our hotel, where Natasha and Richard had just beaten us, met our rather eccentric host, and I managed a few yoga poses to ease my aching muscles before heading out for a well-earned lemon b**r and a sit down.
Finding dinner at the time we want to eat is proving interesting — the Spanish like their cena much later than a group of tired walkers who need an early night! 😂
But we found pizza, red w**e and each other, which did the job nicely.
13.8 miles done. Tired feet, happy walkers.
Now bed… breakfast at 7am and then we do it all again tomorrow. 🥾❤️
