It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of the wonderful badminton coach Bob Heaton on Thursday 12 June 2025.

Bob was not only one of the founding members of Rochdale Junior Badminton Club, he was its heart and soul for over 50 years. As a dedicated coach, he gave his time, energy, and passion to the sport and to generations of young players. Week after week, year after year, Bob looked forward to Saturday sessions, where he found great joy in coaching and encouraging children and young people to develop their skills and confidence on the court.

There are countless individuals, too many to name, who have been coached by Bob and who have benefited from his knowledge, encouragement, and kindness. His sharp wit, warm smile, and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

A true giant in the world of grassroots badminton, Bob’s legacy will live on in the many lives he touched. Through the club, he not only nurtured talent but also helped forge lifelong friendships and even marriages, a testament to the strong, welcoming community he helped build.

His love for the game and his unwavering commitment to his club and community will never be forgotten.

Don't forget the new time and cost for badminton coaching sessions.

Next session is tomorrow (Saturday, 14 January 2022) at Falinge Park High School. Access the sports hall from the rear of the building in the car park.

There's plenty of free parking.

Cost: £5 per session. Please bring the correct amount as we may struggle with change.

Session times:
11am-12noon for primary school aged players
12noon-1pm for secondary school aged players.

Once we've assessed the players we'll assign them to the relevant session based on skills and let you know accordingly.

We're in the process of restructuring the return to badminton coaching for commencement in the New Year. The sessions are likely to be on Saturday mornings at Falinge Park High School.

To help with this and to guage interest, please can you personal message us with the following:

1) child's name
2) child's age
3) parents name
4) parents phone number

It doesn't matter if you've played or never played at the club before. We need to know who's interested in badminton coaching from January 2022.

STATUS UPDATE: horrah, we're returning to badminton coaching. There are likely to be a few changes so to help us to undertake the required restructure we'll be returning in January 2022.
