12 DOJO Squad members return 35 Medals from Eastern Champs

Congratulation to the all Team DOJO members who returned from the Eastern Championships in Norwich last SUN with an amazing 29 medals between them.

Missing form the photo are Kerai sisters. With their medals our total was 35 medals.

These members have now qualified to be invited to the 2027 World Champs selections.

Kisha becomes CLASS LEADER
Congratulations to Kisha Kerai who has worked hard to achieve the DOJO CLASS LEADER AWARD.
She has had to shadow-coach alongside Sensei Irfan Ansari over the last 2years covering all aspects of Level-1 Coaching offered for FREE to selected but capable members of The DOJO seeking a career in Martial Arts Coaching.

Kisha will has already starting gathering the experience and more know knowledge to become a fully fledged Instructor.

Elonie Passes to Black Belt 1st Dan

From the 8 candidates taking Black Belt test yesterday, Elonie was the only one to pass - she outperformed everyone to achieve Black Belt 1st Dan. She was awesome in every way. Her fitness, focus, determination, calm but timely approach, and well her established learning showed through clearly in all aspects of her grading.

The last 12months have been absolutely amazing for Elonie with being the most successful medal winner in the Junior Squad winning an amazing 6 Gold, 2 Silver, 2 Bronze at the World Championships in NOV, only to top it now by passing her Black Belt.

Elonie just missed getting her Black belt in DEC by a whisker, but this time she was so much more determined having spent many hours correcting and reinforcing her Kata and all other aspects of the Grading.

Elonie and all our World Champions will tell you - passing Black Belt at The DOJO is harder than winning the World Champs!

Guys, this kid never gave up! Yes, there were tears after not passing the last time, but this made her even more determined to try harder and pass this time - a big lesson for us to learn from right here!

Of course, this would not have been possible without the encouragement and support from mum Nikki, dad Louis, and the rest of the family.

Now Elonie and her sister Isla are both Black Belts in the same family - how good is that.

Elonie has got her heart set on becoming a Sensei one day, alongside many other things. Currently aged 9yrs, when she reaches 11yrs we will invite her to join our coaching program.

I have to say, she is on my Top-10 list of most outstanding -10yrs olds that ever got to Black Belt with me since 1988. Her attitude to try hard to succeed is outstanding for someone this young.

DIYA receives DOJO Instructor Certificate at DOJO Coaching Seminar.
Huge Congratulations to Diya on passing all elements of the Coaching Program to become a Dojo Instructor (Sensei). She has worked hard to meet all the requirements; Passing all assessments, completing her portfolio requirements, passed her practical exams, risk assessments, 1st Aid, DBS, Safeguarding, and the situational based tests.

A special welldone has to go to Diya's mum and dad for enrolling her onto the Dojo Coaching Program, and continuously supporting her to achieve this rare but free qualification that usually costs £7000.

I would lie to add that Diya's approach is outstanding. She is always organised and understands what & how to coach skills, vigilant to health & safety, uses a variety of communication styles to younger/older members, gives praise/recognition to members to build a good teacher/student bond, and shows great conformity and dedication to The DOJO and its members - I'm proud of you Miss - keep going.

DOJO Welcomes Rochdale Mayor
Mayor Janet Emsley + Consort, Sohail Ahmed and Chris Hemtsock were our delegates attending the special event in 'APPRECIATION & RECOGNITION of DOJO WORLD CHAMPIONS' last SUN.

Team DOJO returned from the 2025 WMAGC World Champs in November from NORWAY with an exceptional 199 medals (68 Gold, 77 Silver, 54 Bronze).

From all the clubs representing their countries, Dojo Karate Centre won the most medals.

Also, Hanshi IRFAN ANSARI (Dojo Chief Instructor) was given the honour as 1 of 4 World Champs Rules Arbitrators.

There were some speeches made, commemorative Certificates given out to all participants, special recognition to Coaching Assistants, Volunteers and those who won most medals in various categories.

It was a wonderfully organised event with special thanks to all Parents, Volunteers, Assistant Coaches, and Coaches for all their efforts to get the Squad ready for such a success that has put Rochdale, Oldham, Middleton on the World map.
