July was a busy month for events before the summer holiday period. There was the Nore race, Swale Regatta, Red Sands Tower race, Classic Channel Regatta and Bernie returned home in Louisa having completed 78 days away and over 3,800 miles in the Jester Challenge. Over the past couple of months many members have headed off for their own adventure and we’re looking to catching up with you all in the clubhouse soon!

Recently the club held its new members’ BBQ reception which attracted a high number of members (c. 50). These events provide a great opportunity to get to know one another and create opportunities to get out on the water with crew, or to gain sailing experience from our friendly (and experienced) membership.

Red Sails Over The Medway - Exhibition
The Thames Sailing Barge Trust are holding an exhibition in Strood and Chatham, Kent during August and September. The exhibition comes following the success of the Red Sails Over The Estuary exhibition held in Southend in 2021.
This exhibition has been updated to include local interest and is free to visit. Full details are on the image included or can be found by clicking on the link below.
The exhibition is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and we thank the Medway Archive Centre and Sun Pier House for their help in providing the venues.

We hope you have enjoyed your celebrations marking Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Whilst predicted weather conditions hampered our presence at Medway’s Jubilee River Pageant, members gathered at the clubhouse to mark the occasion with good friends and a delicious cream tea. Thank you to everyone who took part and, of course, to our organisers.

Bernie Branfield from HNYC entered the Jester Challenge, a transatlantic single-handed test of endurance and self-reliance. He is in Louisa; a Kent-built 26 foot Invicta yacht. Bernie is one of two skippers remaining in the Challenge. Our admiration goes out to John Apps from Medway Cruising Club who has had to turn back after a massive wave damaged his electrics. You can follow Bernie’s progress and read his posts using the following link: https://share.garmin.com/SVLouisa or https://jesterchallenge.wordpress.com/jester-challenge-2022/
