Yesterday the club lost a true gentleman, friend and volunteer. Mel was loved by all at the club and was always a smiling face welcoming everyone to our wonderful clubhouse and grounds.
He was a club man to his core and will be sorely missed by anyone who had the absolute pleasure of meeting him. RIP Mel Collins forever in our hearts and mind ❤️💛❤️💛

It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of our much loved Honorary Vice President and Groundsman Mel Collins.

Mel was preparing the pitches for the Army rugby match this morning when he collapsed. The army team medics, followed by the paramedics, attended but sadly Mel passed away.

With the families blessing the match went ahead with a minutes silence in his honour and a Fijian prayer sung after the game.

A hugely loved and respected former player, Sponsor, Vice President and Groundsman who gave so much to Medway Rugby Club. We will all miss him terribly.

Please join us for lunch at the club Saturday 1st Feb at 1.30pm, when along his family, we will raise a glass in his honour.
