Millmoor Ladies Firsts v Wyke Wanderers

Full time result 3-8

On a surprisingly sunny afternoon after spells of rain in the morning, the ladies were at home for the first round qualifying of the FA Cup.

It was a strong start from Wyke, but the ladies were holding their own. A free kick on the edge of the box led to the first goal of the game for Wyke.

Keeper, Emma (sponsored by FMS Wheelchair Funeral Carriages) bravely went in for a one on one challenge, saving the goal but getting injured in the process. Emma soldiered on until the end of the first half with the score 0-3.

Wardy picked up the mantle (and the gloves) and stepped up to play in goal for the second half.

Great goals from Yasmin Webster, Lacey Simmons (sponsored by 360 Scaffold Services) and Lillie Wares followed but were unfortunately not enough to tip the balance and the game ended 3-8. Today was a game to move forward and learn from.

Good luck to Wyke in the next round.

Player of the Match went to Wardy for stepping into goal and pulling off some fantastic saves.

No donkey this week.

Sunday the ladies took a trip to Grimsby Borough for their last pre-season friendly. It was a great opportunity to finish working on a few things before the next round of The Women's FA Cup this weekend.

The score line didn't go our way with a 2-1 finish and our goal came from Mollie Proctor (sponsored by DC Drywall Systems Ltd.)

A night out in Cleethorpes for most of the team followed and to enjoy the bank holiday.

Player of the Match: Mollie Proctor for the mileage and work rate put in and a goal to show for it.

Donkey of the Game: Alan for forgetting the tactics board for the team talk.

đź”´âš« THE WOMEN'S FA CUP PRELIMINARY ROUND đź”´âš«

Millmoor Ladies 3 - 1 Forge Way

The ladies started off slow yesterday as we found ourselves trailing 1-0 early on in the game due to a mishap at the back. Nevertheless, the reaction to that got us back into the game. After many through balls and some good passages of play we found ourselves close to equalising on multiple occasions. Finally a slotted ball through with a calm and collective finish from Yasmin Webster (aka Mo Farah) found us level at the break.

HT: 1-1

The ladies come out in the 2nd half starting off much better. More pressure, more work rate and a lot more chances that we unfortunately couldn’t put away. However, with 15 minutes to go, everyone gave 100% and were determined to take the lead. After some good passage of play, Lacey Simmons (sponsored by 360 Scaffold Services) cuts in and takes a lovely strike from the edge of the box to take the lead.

10 minutes to go the ladies held their own. Defence putting in some aggressive but fair challenges, our keeper Emma Salkeld (sponsored by FMS Wheelchair Funeral Carriages) sweeping up like it’s nothing, meanwhile all trying to create more chances as we knew we needed to seal the lead. The final kick of the game, a long kick from our keeper, flicked on by Ebony Deans and Tiff Clarke (sponsored by RL Kitchens) calmly slots in past the keeper making it 3 - 1 to the ladies.

Players of the Match:
Lacey Iles (sponsored by The Hocking Family) for her constant defensive contribution to the game and Mollie Proctor for her work rate in midfield and never stopped all game.

Donkey of the Game:
Christina Lee for her little Messi 'shinpads'

Big thanks again to our new home kit sponsor Strong Life Care and our match ball sponsor Ai Facilities Management Ltd
