Back to grassroots football on a grey, cloudy and wet Sunday morning… but were we glad to be back? Absolutely.
We started the game a little grey, a little damp and, if we’re honest, a little under the weather. We weren’t quite playing football the way we know we can, but there were shoots of what we are as a team — moments of good football, good movement and a goal that put us 1-0 up in the first half.
The foundations were there. The stems of the football we want to play were starting to show.
Unfortunately, we then conceded twice in quick succession and found ourselves 2-1 down at half-time.
The second half didn’t start with the best football we’ve played either. We allowed ourselves to get drawn into a style that doesn’t reflect who we are or what we do. But we know these players. We know their ability, we know how good they can be, and we know what our football should look like.
We reminded the players of that, and gradually we found our way back into the game. We started to take control again, play our football and create opportunities — eventually getting ourselves back to 2-2.
There could have been more, and we’ll certainly take the lessons from today, but ultimately we finished the morning on a positive note, with good team spirit and a draw that felt like something to build on.

Owen — an absolutely tenacious performance today. His determination and work rate were fantastic, and he created a brilliant goal-scoring opportunity for us. Exactly the kind of battling attitude we want to see.
Finn — an absolutely solid performance on the pitch. His calmness, poise and ability to command the game were superb and really stood out today. A composed performance when we needed it most.
We’re back next week and the future is bright the future is blue 🔵⚽️🔵

🏆💙 CHAMPIONS AGAIN! 💙🏆
What an incredible day for Wickersley Youth Blues U12s as we were crowned Wickersley Summer Tournament Champions for the FOURTH time! 🏅👏
A massive congratulations to every single player. The determination, teamwork, resilience, and quality shown throughout the day were outstanding. You should all be immensely proud of what you’ve achieved.
We’d also like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in making Wickersley Youth Junior Football Club such a phenomenal event. Year after year, it continues to set the standard as one of the best youth football tournaments in the country. Brilliantly organised, professionally run, and creating a fantastic atmosphere for players, coaches, and families alike.
The standard of opposition was exceptional from start to finish. Every match was competitive, challenging, and played in the right spirit, making this achievement even more special. A huge thank you to every team we faced—you helped make it a tournament to remember.
Finally, thank you to all our parents, supporters, and volunteers for your incredible backing throughout the day. Your support means everything.

What a way to finish the U11 season! ☀️⚽
On a beautiful sunny Sunday morning, the boys signed off the season in a blaze of glory. They played with heart, fought for every ball, and showed just how much they’ve grown together throughout the year.
We couldn’t be prouder of this team and everything they’ve achieved this season. They’ve really cemented who they are as a group, and they’re more than ready to take the next step into U12s next season.
player shout-outs today:
Samuel — for his continuous rock-solid defensive mindset, absolute determination throughout the game, and some beautiful play on the ball. A huge performance!
Abdul — for listening carefully to everything the coaches asked before the game and delivering it perfectly on the pitch. His tenacity was exceptional today, winning everything he went for and constantly delivering for his teammates.

A drizzly Sunday morning on the bank holiday weekend set the scene for our grassroots Cup semi-final.
The opposition came out sharp, playing at a high tempo with real hunger and intent, which made it an uphill challenge early on. Credit to the boys though — they grew into the game, found their rhythm, and battled well. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t our day.

What a day for grassroots football! ☀️⚽️
The sun was shining, the atmosphere was roaring, and our Under-11 Blues delivered a fantastic cup win to push us through to the semi finals ! Massive credit to our opponents, who gave us a brilliant game from start to finish.
Our player shout outs go to
Lennie – absolutely instrumental at the back. A rock in our defensive line, always in the right place at the right time.
Samuel – on it from the very first minute! Tough, determined, and covered every blade of grass to keep our defence solid. No nonsense, just pure effort.
Proud of every single player out there today – teamwork, resilience, and heart on full display 💙

Cup football. Away from home. Same opposition as last week… and the boys showed exactly what they’re made of. 💪⚽
From the first whistle to the last, this was a brilliant performance. The football we played, the passages of play, the teamwork—everything was on point throughout. It was a real pleasure to watch. Every single player contributed, from sharp attacking moves right the way through to a rock-solid defence.

Jack - who was absolutely immense in goal today, confident, and determined—he made sure nothing was getting past him. 🧤
And another big shout-out to Zeky, who executed everything asked of him by the coaches, followed instructions to the letter, and topped it off with a fantastic goal. Fully deserved!
Proud of every single one of the lads today. This is what grassroots football is all about.
