Lee Cheesman and Tony Long had a great day at SCMFC flying club. Here is the awesome Vario Lama. Bit windy so not the best of conditions. This heli has some tuning still to do but we’re getting there!
The SCMFC is now at its first stage member capacity. We appreciate those who have expressed an interest in joining and will revisit membership numbers again after 1st September, working in close conjunction with the land owner.
We are still not accepting guest flyers at this time.
Vario Lama - magnificent machine. Needs some further tuning to bring out more stability but we’re getting there.
What a fantastic day at SCMFC. So great to see a few club members venturing out taking pride in being precautionary and sensible. The highlight of the day was an 88” Super Stearman with an ASP 400 5 cylinder 64cc radial running on 10% nitro. How lovely it purred; flown by Colin Pearce on this proving flight.

We are open from Wednesday 13th May.
After examining the guidance from the Government, BMFA and LMA concerning the relaxation of rules directly implicating model flying, we have as a committee decided to tentatively open the 'FIELD ONLY' to current members with the backing of the land owner. Of course there are several extremely important provisions and strict rules that must be adhered, but it is now possible to take to the skies in relative safety.
Remember, this is essentially a 'solo' activity and for now explicitly precludes groups, meetings and socialising with anymore than one other person.
All members are encouraged to make their own judgement as to risks and from that, form a sensible decision taking all factors into account such as age, underlying health conditions and confidence. We are in the midst of a crisis and model flying is not crucial to life but a passion that may help some with their well being at this time.
Members have been provided with an extensive set of rules and conditions to facilitate 'partial' relaxation. Notices have been placed and a medical kit still remains easily accessible.
We will not be accepting guest flyers or new members until further notice although we welcome enquiries for potential membership in due course.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Please be advised that the South Cambridge Model Flying Club is now closed due to the Covid-19 virus and government legislation.
The BMFA have provided guidance to clubs and we act in line with the governments clear orders. Visiting the club for any purpose, maintenance or otherwise is prohibited.
We hope that this period is as short as practicably possible for the nation while keeping people safe. The re-opening of the club will coincide with the imminent relaxation of legislative measures.
MEMBERSHIP ENQUIRIES
We welcome membership enquiries in anticipation of normality returning and will be happy to answer questions and provide information.
The SCMFC hope everyone remains safe and responsible and look forward to returning to our great hobby in the very near future.
In the mean time, check your batteries, finish your winter projects, maintain your models and maybe give an RC Sim a go.
To all members regarding the Covid-19 Virus:
The committee feel it important to highlight a few points as a responsible club to help with your safety and consequently that of others. As the weather warms we expect to see more and more people at the club, and why not?, our hobby lends itself to fresh air and space which is what we all need right now - if you are not self isolating.
When visiting the club, please follow these new measures for maximum safety. We can continue to enjoy our hobby with relative ease:
The entrance gate metal combination keypad is used frequently by farm workers and businesses on the farm. Be mindful of this and use sanitiser after tapping in the code and before if you so wish.
Refrain from using the club hut as an area of congregation, better stand under one of the giant parasols which we will soon be putting back out.
Do help out and give the general surface areas a wipe down if you have used the club hut. If possible we will supply some disinfectant, but it would be appreciated if any member can bring their own as it seems hard to come by at the moment.
Take your own flasks and drinks instead of using the clubs stock to limit possible contamination of surfaces in the drinks preparation area. Dispose of empty bottles and cups promptly.
Take hand sanitiser to the club and use it frequently. Try to avoid passing batteries, transmitters and other tools to each other without clean hands.
Take tissues and follow the governments guidelines to catch it and bin it.
Be mindful of the wind direction when coughing or sneezing; droplets will carry further and club members will be extremely unappreciative. Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue where possible and be mindful of those around you.
If you are showing symptoms of the virus, please remain home, follow the governments advice and do not attend the club.
Space is ample and there is no need to stand in close proximity to other members so make use of it and enjoy.
For those in the higher risks groups, please take extra precautions and do everything possible to remain at a distance and away from others. Remember, this virus incubates for a number of days where you may remain contagious, so treat everyone as a possible carrier.
If you bring a visitor to the club, ensure they follow the same protocols.
Perhaps a salute instead of a handshake from this point forward!? 😊
Stay safe
