Rugby Town Women 2–0 Tamworth FC Women

A winning return to home soil as we now progress into the 1st Round qualifying of the FA Cup.

Rugby started strongly and controlled good periods of the game, but a well-organised Tamworth defence made it difficult to find the breakthrough.

The deadlock was finally broken 10 minutes before half time, as Rachel’s ball into the box found Katie, who headed home to put Rugby ahead.

Rugby continued to push for a second after the break, with Tamworth creating opportunities of their own. The team remained composed, regained their shape and worked hard to protect the clean sheet.

The second goal came through Maggie, who brought the ball down before finding the back of the net to seal the win.

We will now face Shawbury United at home on 6th September in the 1st Round qualifying.

FULL TIME | CHASETOWN FC WOMEN 2–3 RUGBY TOWN WOMEN 🩵

Rugby Town Women came out fighting against tough opposition — and what a way to start the season.

Chasetown took the lead in the first half, but Rugby kept pushing and found an equaliser just five minutes before the break. A free kick into the box caused chaos, with Eve reacting quickest to fire a first-time effort that took a perfect deflection and found the back of the net.

Rugby came out strong in the second half, with some brilliant one-touch football between Darcey, Maggie and Molly. A first-time finish from Molly found the top right corner to put Rugby 2–1 ahead.

Chasetown fought back once again, finding space on the edge of the area to bring the game level at 2–2.

But Rugby weren’t finished.

With 15 minutes remaining, a ball was played through to Katie, who showed brilliant composure to take it past her player before calmly slotting the winner into the bottom left corner.

Rugby battled right until the final whistle, with Chasetown pushing us all the way and making us work for the result.

A brilliant team performance, a well-earned win and a strong start to the season.

We’re recruiting for the 2026/27 season across Open‑Age (16+) team and U17 / U18 teams.

Competing in Step 6 – West Midlands Regional Women’s Division One North, with home games at Rugby Town Stadium and training on our excellent 4G facility.
