A warm welcome to any new followers who have joined over the last few months, I thought I’d share a bit about me to give an idea of my background, my training and who I am….
My background
I grew up in the countryside where I enjoyed riding my bike or playing ‘grown ups’ with my best friend. School for me was all about being with friends rather than learning, although secretly I did love learning, and always thought I could probably do better if I had put my mind to it.
Through my adult life I’ve always worked in the caring profession, first as a Nursey Nurse, then a Teaching Assistant, A support Worker, and now a Counsellor. I wondered for a long time what it’d be like to go to University, but I always thought that wasn’t for the likes of me. It was in my early forties when I discovered that actually, maybe it was for me! And I followed my long-time dream to become a counsellor by completing a Degree course in Integrative Counselling.
My Training
Training to be a counsellor involved learning about different theories, writing assignments, practical observations/ assessments, completing 100 client hours on placement, undertaking my own personal therapy, and learning a lot about myself. And the learning doesn't stop there, there's always something new on my professional development list.
After volunteering/ working for counselling agencies, I launched ‘Vicky Harrison Counselling’ at the start of 2024 and have been seeing clients face-to-face in Rugby or online (across UK) ever since.
About me
I love a good old comforting Sunday roast dinner, and watching the sitcom ‘Ghosts’. I enjoy walking, and although the arrival of warm weather always feels welcome, I also love the feel of being battered by the wind on a beach or hilltop in Winter. I don’t like eating sushi, watching horror films, or running.

Instead of keep powering on, can you find just one small way to re-charge?
Perhaps try;
*Physically resting your body, like stretches or deep breaths
*Taking some space for a quiet moment, like reading a book or listening to relaxing music
*Reducing overwhelm, for example taking a break from screens or tidying your space
*Doing something that’s just for you, like getting a massage or playing a musical instrument
*Journalling or sharing how you’re feeling with a trusted friend
*Acknowledging progress over perfection

There can feel a lot of pressure to have new plans in January, and that’s absolutely fine if it feels right for you…
but if it doesn’t feel right, remember;
you don't have to have it all figured out straight away,
you don't have to do it all at once,
it's ok to change your mind, make mistakes, change your route, or start again.
It's ok to take your time.

Did you spend a lot of time pleasing everyone else during Christmas? Perhaps it’s time to focus on yourself now.
Christmas can be the most wonderful time of the year, but it can also takes its toll, leaving you feeling burnt out, re-assessing relationships, or noticing that in all the hustle and bustle you forgot yourself.
Make taking some time for yourself a priority this January, for example;
*take a walk outdoors
*try a new hobby
*spend time with those who lift you, not drain you
*enjoy cosy time with candles, a good book or a film
*get a good night’s sleep
If you would like space that’s just for you, to talk things through, work things out and make changes, counselling could help. Feel free to get in touch to arrange a free, no obligation 20 min initial phone conversation where you can ask any questions and find out a bit more about the way I work before deciding to work together.

A new year doesn’t require a new version of you. 🩵

Wow, what a difference in the Oak tree this month (which I’m photographing every week for a year). Reflections from December…
Suddenly, in one week the crisp brown leaves were gone!
I’d been waiting for this, but now that it’s happened it feels strange, a sort of heavy silence, a question of “what now?”
Sometimes we find ourselves wishing for change, hoping for something different, waiting for something dramatic. Then when it happens, maybe it’s not quite what we wished for, hoped for, or expected. This can feel a strange place to be.
If Christmas felt a bit like this or if the New Year isn’t quite going to plan;
It can be helpful to remind yourself to slow down a little and be kind to yourself, it’s ok to feel however you feel. Perhaps re-assessing expectations, exploring alternative perspectives and focusing on the present might be useful, along with focusing on what’s within your control (rather than what’s not) to find realistic ways to move forward.

🚶♂️ Family Walk – Just Show Up 🚶♀️
Saturday 10th January, we’re getting outside, getting moving, and having a proper walk and chat at Houlton, Rugby.
🕙 Meet at 10:00am
📍 Houlton, Rugby
This walk is about showing up for men’s mental health — breaking the stigma, having real conversations, or just enjoying the company without any pressure to talk.
👨👩👧👦 Everyone is welcome
• Men (especially you 👊)
• Partners & parents
• Kids
• Dogs 🐶
You don’t need to be “going through something” to come along. You don’t need to talk if you don’t want to. Just turning up shows support — for yourself and for others.
👉 Just show up. Bring the family. Bring the dog. Bring yourself.
If you’ve been thinking about coming to something like this… this is your sign.
